Pink Floyd’s drummer and racing enthusiast Nick Mason is auctioning one of the most unusual Volkswagens ever built: a 1995 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet Mk III Pink Floyd Edition, at the Iconic Auctioneers NEC Classic Motor Show Sale this November.
All proceeds, including buyer’s premium, will go to the Harefield Healing Garden, a charity providing peaceful outdoor space for heart and lung patients at Harefield Hospital. The car, once owned by Mason himself, headlines a weekend of philanthropy that includes other charity lots from Red Bull Racing and boxing legend Frank Bruno.
The Pink Floyd Golf: A Limited Edition Born From A Legendary Band
In the mid-1990s, Volkswagen partnered with Pink Floyd to create a special edition Golf Cabriolet celebrating the band’s Division Bell tour. While many manufacturers sought celebrity tie-ins, this one stood out for its authenticity. The Pink Floyd Edition combined Volkswagen’s precision with subtle artistic cues, turning an everyday convertible into a collectible piece of rock history.

The car featured Pink Floyd badges, color-coded trim, unique seat upholstery inspired by the tour’s stage graphics, and a premium stereo system embossed with the band’s name. At its heart, it remained a reliable German cabriolet, but one that captured the creative energy of a group known for its attention to sound.

Nearly 30 years later, that collaboration still stands as one of the most distinctive automotive tie-ins ever attempted. Only a small number of these cars were ever built, making them sought-after by both VW fans and music collectors alike.

While Volkswagen’s Pink Floyd Edition was already collectible, this specific Golf Cabriolet belonged to Nick Mason himself, a car with personal significance and musical pedigree. Mason, a well-known car aficionado who has owned everything from Ferraris to Le Mans racers, bought the Golf as a restoration project. Although the project was never completed, it offered a treasure trove of authentic parts and signed memorabilia.

Among the included items are a pair of signed drumsticks, four vinyl albums, Mason’s book Into The Red, and an original Pink Floyd × Volkswagen T-shirt. He’s also personally signed the car, with photographic proof included. For collectors, this is a rare chance to own the only Pink Floyd Edition Golf ever verified as band-owned.

Every dollar raised will support the Harefield Healing Garden, a cause deeply connected to Mason’s family. “Supporting the garden represents a small gesture of thanks that can be of benefit to patients, visitors, and staff,” he said, a fitting message from an artist whose music has long been about reflection and space.
Other Charity Highlights Join The Stage

While Mason’s Golf leads the sale, the charity lineup at the NEC Classic Motor Show continues the theme of giving back through automotive passion. A fully restored 1961 Volkswagen Double Door Deluxe 23-Window Samba Bus, valued at around $127,000 USD, will be sold without reserve to benefit Great Ormond Street Hospital and Charity. The iconic bus features a Prosser-built 1776cc engine, new interior, and two-tone Sand and Palm Green finish, a high-dollar restoration turned into heartfelt philanthropy.
In addition, a rear wing end plate from Sebastian Vettel’s 2012 Red Bull RB8 will be auctioned to support Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), while a pair of signed boxing gloves from Frank Bruno MBE, donated by rising boxer Lewis Williams, will benefit The Myton Hospices.
Rob Hubbard, Managing Director of Iconic Auctioneers, summed up the weekend: “Each of these charity lots tells a story — of creativity, craftsmanship, and compassion, showing that car culture can truly make a difference.”
Nick Mason’s Pink Floyd Golf Cabriolet Mk III is a reflection of passion, gratitude, and purpose. From its origins in Volkswagen’s creative partnership to its new role supporting patient care, the car carries the same message as the music that inspired it: connection through emotion. The auction takes place November 8–9, 2025, as part of the NEC Classic Motor Show, now in its 14th year in partnership with Iconic Auctioneers. Fans can bid in person, by phone, or online at IconicAuctioneers.com.
