Cancelled my golf membership and decided to build a budget simulator instead. Here is what I used for my build and just some things I’ve learned along the way.

Location: 3rd car garage
Size: 10×10 impact screen ($150)
Simulator device: Rapsodo Mlm2pro ($700)
Projector: benq TH671ST ($400)
Subscriptions: Rapsodo annual and gspro annual ($500)
Miscellaneous: hdmi cords, computer antenna, etc ($100)
Gaming desktop: ($500)
Material to build enclosure: curtains, wood, screws, etc. ($250)
Turf: $100
Hitting mat: had a cheap one prior but my buddy gave me a nice one that runs around $600

Overall very happy with my set up! We park both of our cars in the garage every night and I can pull the golf cart out so it’s not in the way when the kids play. I’m a 5 handicap so not missing the ball very often and don’t mind when the front of the golf cart is in the view.

I wish I had more room horizontally but went with a 10×10 given the space I have. The gaming pc and gaming card helped me stretch out the image and I don’t mind having a few inches of black on the top and bottom. Also, I have 4 kids so we have bikes and all kinds of stuff we still need to store so it’s nice to have a side curtains that I can slide open and closed. Also, when it gets hot in the summer I can move this entire set up out of the way and mount it to the ceiling if I wanted. But if I’m being completely honest I’ll probably end up trying to insulate my garage next because I love it so much.

Things I learned along the way:

1: hitting mat. I thought it was ridiculous seeing other people post on this thread about how much they spent on hitting mats. Initially I used a few pieces of extra carpet and then a 100 dollar Matt off amazon. The one my buddy gave me is NIGHT & DAY. It really makes it wayyyyy more enjoyable to hit off a better surface and having sponges on your feet. The insert to the mat I’m using allows tees as well which is really nice.

2: if you are using a rapsodo and having issues with connection, I found that an antenna made the biggest difference. I had a big issue of my unit disconnecting even 8 ft away from my gaming desktop. It was very frustrating in between shots and definitely caused me to not enjoy playing… then I bought a 6.5 feet extension and it doesn’t disconnect at all anymore using GSPro (Eightwood WiFi Antenna with… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JVDNDCR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

3: sell your kids if they enjoy golf… swear they are on it more then I am 🤣

Another thought is the hitting bay setup. I think it’s crazy what people spend on just the enclosure itself but I know it goes into the overall look of the build. For me personally, no way I was buying a carls place enclosure or something similar for $2k+. I don’t have an updated picture but I did end up taking a steamer to get ride of the folds on my impact screen so it looks a lot better.

Gooda luck with your builds!

  1. This is awesome. Love seeing more DIY than just using the EMT. Working on mine as we speak.. I will also share here when done. Great job!👏🏼

I also built my structure out of wood. It was surprisingly simple process. It looks like you have already, but just make sure you’re very cautious with covering the wood up, there will definitely be shots that bounce back if there’s any spot that’s vulnerable.

Now you just need two treadmills for your golf cart for the full experience.
