NSW golf’s finest came together tonight at the Shangri-La Sydney for the 2025 NSW Golf Industry Awards, celebrating the players, clubs, and volunteers who are driving the game forward across the state.
From elite amateurs achieving international success to grassroots programs inspiring the next generation, the evening highlighted the passion, innovation, and community spirit that makes golf in New South Wales thrive.
O’Donovan and Scaysbrook go back-to-back as Players of the Year
For the second year running, Declan O’Donovan and Ella Scaysbrook claimed the state’s top honours.
Declan was named Male Amateur Player of the Year after a history-making season that saw him defend his NSW Amateur title — the first player in nearly 50 years to do so — and capture the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship, earning a start in the 2026 RBC Canadian Open. He capped off the year by representing Australia at the Asia-Pacific Amateur in Dubai.
Ella claimed Female Amateur Player of the Year, following a breakout season highlighted by a semi-final appearance at the U.S. Women’s Amateur and multiple state titles. Her consistent international performances have propelled her into the world’s top 50 amateurs.
Metropolitan Club of the Year – Roseville Golf Club
Roseville Golf Club claimed Metropolitan Club of the Year, recognised for its innovation, sustainability, and strong community culture.
The club’s landmark year included a $1.5 million clubhouse upgrade, sustained membership growth, and a commitment to inclusivity, with 42% of members now female. Roseville’s environmentally responsible operations and vibrant club spirit have set a benchmark for excellence across metropolitan golf.
Country Club of the Year – Fairbairn Golf Club
Fairbairn Golf Club was named Country Club of the Year, following a transformative period of growth and renewal. The Canberra-based club implemented a $1 million masterplan, introduced new social spaces, and hosted major events including the ACT’s only Senior Tour Legends Pro-Am. Fairbairn’s commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and inclusion has positioned it as a standout among regional clubs.
Facility of the Year – Thornleigh Golf Centre
Thornleigh Golf Centre was named Facility of the Year, recognised for its innovative approach, community focus, and commitment to growing the game.
Combining industry-leading technology, diverse programs, and a welcoming atmosphere, Thornleigh has become a hub for golfers of all ages and skill levels. Its strategic marketing, inclusive programming, and strong partnerships with local schools and community groups have introduced thousands of new participants to golf each year.
By pairing cutting-edge facilities with a genuine focus on accessibility, sustainability, and customer experience, Thornleigh continues to set the standard for modern, community-driven golf venues.
Services to Golf in NSW – Frances Crampton AM
The Services to Golf in NSW award was posthumously presented to Frances Crampton AM, recognising her lifetime of visionary leadership and service to sport. Frances passed away in May this year, leaving a legacy defined by inclusion, innovation, and opportunity.
A trailblazer across golf, gymnastics, and wider sport, Frances served as CEO of Women’s Golf NSW (2002–2007) and later as National Director of Golf Development at Golf Australia, where she championed grassroots growth and pathways for young women. Her influence also extended through governance roles with Jack Newton Junior Golf, Golf Australia, and Softball NSW.
Beyond golf, Frances led Gymnastics NSW (1986–2000), co-founded and chaired the NSW Sports Federation (1991–2009), and represented Australia at five Olympic and five Commonwealth Games.
Her distinguished service was recognised with the OAM (1995), AM (2004), and Life Memberships with Sport NSW, Gymnastics NSW, and Gymnastics Australia. A true pioneer, Frances Crampton AM’s lifelong dedication to fostering equality and opportunity continues to inspire.
Volunteer of the Year – Riedell Jeffs
Riedell Jeffs of Frederickton Golf Club was honoured as Volunteer of the Year, recognised for her extraordinary dedication and resilience.
Even while undergoing cancer treatment, Riedell continued to lead and support her club, embodying the spirit of selflessness that keeps regional golf thriving.
Other Major Award Winners
Other winners on the night included the Hawks Nest Beachside Apartments Pro-Am, named PGA NSW/ACT Tournament of the Year, and Tamarra Wong and Luke Grinham, recognised as Coach of the Year for Game Development and High Performance. From the NSW Golf Course Superintendents Association, David Stone was honoured as Superintendent of the Year, with Greg Stynes receiving the Environment Award.
Stuart Fraser, CEO of Golf NSW, said the awards night was a resounding success and highlighted the level of excellence across the state.
“These awards celebrate the very best of our golf community,” Mr Fraser said.
