KAILUA-KONA, Hawai’i – The Washington women’s golf team wrapped up the first round of the Nanea Invitational today, finishing the day in 11th place with a team score of four-over par on the par-73 course. 

Leading the way for the Huskies was Athena Ni, who delivered an impressive opening round of 5-under to sit in a tie for fourth overall. Ni carded six birdies on her way to her career low 68 round. 

Claudia Alnajim followed in second for the Huskies and 24th overall after a steady one-under round that included four birdies. 

Wendy Tang finished third for the team and 52nd overall at +4, while Carmen Lim sits 55th at six-over. Mads Smith rounded out the lineup at +10. Competing as an individual, Amber Li sits 57th after carding a +7 in her first round. 

“What a day!” said head coach Anna Temple. “Athena set her personal record with a 68 and Claudia had her first under par round as a part of our lineup. We have a couple things to improve on tomorrow and we’re hungry to get back at it tomorrow.”

The Huskies will look to build on their opening performance as play continues tomorrow with the second round at Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
