When you putt, is your speed control worse than the driver ahead of you in the fast lane going 50 and 60? Do you have more three putts on the year than you do pars? Speed control is one of the most important factors to making more putts and is a skill that cannot be overlooked. In this video, I’m going to go over proven putting drills to improve your speed control so that you can make more putts and three putt less often. [Music] Oh [Music] la. [Music] Setting up Leaprog is simple. All you need to do is place a ball that is about 20 ft away from you. The objective for this drill is simple. You’re going to hit consecutive putts in a row with the goal of having your putt come as close to the previous putt without going past it. This drill is a variation of the popular leap frog drill in that instead of starting close to hitting balls past, I prefer starting at the longest one away at 20 ft and working my way back so that the balls aren’t getting in your way. If you’ve ever done the traditional leaprog drill, you’ll know what I’m talking about. This drill sounds easy in practice, but trust me, once you do this drill, you will realize that is a lot harder than it looks. It is one of the best ways to develop speed control touch on the green. When doing this drill, if you hit your ball past the last one, you have to restart. The goal is to make it all the way back to 3 ft in front of you with as many golf balls as you can fit in that 20ft zone. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. [Music] The fringe drill is one of my absolute favorite drills to do before a golf round because it requires minimal setup and it doesn’t take up a lot of space on the putting green. The fringe drill is an amazing drill that you can do on the first few putting greens of your round if you didn’t have time to warm up the flat stick on the putting green. You can do this drill away from your playing partners to get the speed of the greens that day as the time of day and different day of the week. The putting greens might have different speed. The objective of the drill is simple. Set up about 15 to 20 ft away from the fringe and try to get the ball to roll just on top of the fringe like this. 15 to 20 ft away is the distance that you’ll have most of your birdie putts on their own. So, if you can get the ball to just roll on the fringe, even if you missed your line, you should have a tap in for par. The last drill is the hardest drill to perform and requires some space to complete. [Music] You want to randomly throw the golf balls to simulate leg putts anywhere from 20 to 25 ft. The purpose of this drill is to challenge your leg putting at different spots consecutively to improve your speed control from longer distances. The objective of this drill is similar to the fringe drill in that your goal is to putt the ball as close to the fringe, not worrying about line, and to get the ball to barely roll on the fringe. It is a very hard drill to perform, but after a few days of practicing, it will significantly help your leg putting and will lower your three putts, leading to more pars. [Music] Heat up [Music]
