Laurie Canter teams up with Trackman co-founder and CTO, Fredrik Tuxen, for an inside look at his full bag setup and stock yardages — filmed at Wentworth ahead of the BMW PGA Championship.
From wedges to driver, Laurie calls out his predicted stock distances before putting them to the test in real time. Once the numbers are locked in, things get competitive as he takes on the Max Yardage Challenge — hitting every club in the bag as far as possible.

See the noise that made? I’m Lori Caner and this is where power meets precision. These are my stock and maximum yardages powered by Trackman. All right. So, what club have you got now? So, we start. Do you want to start bottom end of the bag? Lob wedge. Do you want me to call what my stock is before? What? What? What? Lob wedge. What degree is that? 60. 60. There we go. Are we normalizing with this wind? We are normalizing. We’re normalizing. You have both. So, we can talk about both the how much is is hurting or helping out a little bit into the into the face right now for sure. Yeah. I very rarely hit a full lob wedge to be honest. But if I did, it would be I’d say probably 90 yards. Probably 90 yards. 90 yards. Pretty comfy. Okay, let’s see. That one’s got about 70 78 I reckon into that one. That was like a pretty clean pretty clean version. So you you actually got 90 yards on that one. Did I? Yeah. What? Normalized that. That That’s the normalized normalized 90 and actual 84. So yeah, you got a six six yard hurting. And of course with the, you know, high spin and so on, it really uh was clean and went that way. I don’t really like hitting. Can I have one more go at that? You can have one more go. One more one more go. One more go of full lob budge. Think if I got myself a little a little bit straighter. There you go. That was a better one. It’s going to be fingering 90. So So that’s a 93 uh normalized and 88 uh actual. Sounds about right. So So same same amount. This is This was only five yards hurting. Before it was six. Yeah. But uh Yeah. Yeah. I I hit that one a bit better. It’s got slightly better flights. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. If we’re going to go into the nerd details, the spin was a little bit down compared to the previous one. That’s probably on the second one. Second one. Yes. Okay. Interesting. Which one is it now? We’re moving to 54. 54. This would typically be 115. 115. Yeah. Okay. I’m I’m I’m happier hitting this. I’ve got six degrees less loft. I’m kind of happier hitting this uh fuller if I need to versus the lob wedge. Got cooked by the wind again, I think. But so I mean actual 109 uh 112 normalized. Okay. So yeah, we can go for that. Yeah, that’s is Yeah. And uh would you know your attack angle? We talked a little bit about the slope here. Uh what you what’s your normal? How much are you hitting down? Attack angle with a wedge. With a wedge. Yeah. Expected to be – 6 to – 8. Okay. Minus 6.2. So you’re spot on. Okay. Yeah. Um move to a 50. 50. Yes. Uh so here I’d expect top end high 20s. Kind of 20. High 20s. High 20s. 27 28. It’s a nice shot. Feel like I can always begin begin to aim a little straight. I mean normalize 127 exactly as you were saying but actual is 121. 121. Yeah. Because of the wind here. Do you feel with the yardage that you know is it can you always pick your number or there are certain conditions maybe in particular with the wedges where you where you’re surprised? Uh I think with wedges that into the wind that you’re always more flight sensitive. Uh so the best wedge players I know are not always the highest spinners by any means. They’re they’re always thinking about flight. They’re always thinking about spin. I’ve played a couple of rounds with Luke Donald recently and it’s it’s almost like he’s throwing the ball onto the green. It’s like they boom and it’s dead and like having that level of control. Yeah. Um when when you’re playing your best golf, it’s very rare you’re just hitting a full wedge, you know, like like really you’re you’re gripping down. I’ve got three or four different shots of every wedge that I’ve kind of tried to dial in. Yeah. Yeah. So a full wedge for me should be 45. 45. Sure. 144 normalized. 144 normalized and then uh 139 actual. So we got again again five yards hurting there. I’m doing well there so far. So yeah. So uh so you’re you’re good at your normal normalized yards. You just have to adjust the wind. But I’m Yeah, I’m trying to um I’d say we’re normalized. Yeah, we spend a lot of time, I guess, trying to trying to find the normal, right? Uh so 9 ir Yeah, 9 ir should be 58. Mhm. It’s going to go further cuz I’ve like trap pulled it. So that’s I would say that might might go a little bit further. Maybe kind of spun up. So, it might end up bailing me out and be high 50s, but 155. 55. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. But, but actually, as you can see, the wind was actually, you know, calming down a little bit here. Now, only hurting uh three yards, right? Okay. Yeah. So, it’s Yeah. So, 89 72 172. I was pretty straight. Looks like it’s gone miles actually. I don’t know if the wind’s just changed round there, but that Yeah. So, uh, normalized 165 and and now 164 actual. So, only one yard hurting, but it seems like it’s changing. But the it has a pretty high apex. Uh, 110. I don’t know what what you are. You normally aiming for a certain apex or want to see it at a certain window. I like it up really high. Really high. Yeah. Yeah, it was a high one. Yeah. Um I want Yeah, I guess definitely over 100 up to 120 I reckon is Yeah. Wouldn’t be unhappy. Um I’ll try another eight. Wind’s just getting up there. The wind gust. Wow. That has been nailed by the wind. That be interesting to because that was a good hit. Yeah, but that’s just got n the wind’s just gusted up there. Yeah. Yeah. So, that was uh normalized 168. So, a really solid hit, but one but you got actually nine uh 10 10 yards hurt here. So, it’s 158 in in the interesting. Yeah. Um the seven moving to a seven. Yep. So, what do you see that as? Um, yeah, seven should be 180. 180. Typically a little bit more actually. Kind of probably probably low 80s. 82 83. Okay. Seven. Good. It kind of drifted off a bit, but a little open face to path there on that one. What What was that? That was a normalized 178 uh and actual 176. So, not as much hurt on that one. Um I’ll try one more. You can try one more. But you you said the longer the lower the clubs, the more it starts fading, right? It Well, it Yeah, typically would be by the driver. I’d move it left to right. Okay. Yeah. Obviously, the shorter rounds with more loft. Um I that happens less. Oh it trapped it bit thin. So little closed club face there on that one. Uh 175 uh normalized uh and 170 actual. That’s about what I thought I’d hit my eight on. It’s really important. I think if we’re practicing a lot, we’ll be we should be within four or five yards with what we think we’re hitting our clubs. So then if you go to a place like Cran Montana, you can dial it in pretty quick because you’re saying, well, if you want to play yards, a seven iron normally is 180 and it’s going 200 or something. Yeah. So then, and that’s important. And and I guess the other thing about altitude and changing conditions is it’s doesn’t affect every club equally. So no certain clubs in the bag go would go more than 10 12%. I mean you’re you’re the man to tell me but I understand it’s like a bell curve isn’t it? It’s like yeah and and actually depends a little bit you know uh how you are actually actually are launching the ball and and you know all players don’t do the same. So it’s not like uniformal you can say that it’s just this much percent. Okay. Uh so uh but but it is true it does change all the back even though of course you know neighboring clubs are close to each other. Yeah. So, um but uh yeah, learning that but I guess you know that’s why you know you have the orange box behind you to learn uh you know if I do the same uh first of all do I get the same on the normalized but then also what is the actual that’s the effect and and learn that because that’s a skill you need to have. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Um so 600. Yeah. So uh what do you expect on this one here? Uh 94 95. Yeah. Yeah. That was a good one. Yeah, right on the target. Um, so we got 191. Yeah. Uh, and uh, but actual was 181. So actually here we now we’re talking 10 yards where we saw sort of six yards at the beginning. Sorry, five. Five. I’ll be crossing the uh 200 200. Well, I’d like I’d like to think it would be about 20 208, but I seem to be I would seem to be a few yards. I can see it’s about at least 13 yards of gapping uh in between is although between my seven and my eight wasn’t that, was it? But um that would be that would be about what I’d uh my expectation would be. Call it 205. Yeah. So 208. Yep. Uh and then 98 uh actual. So again, 10 yards hurt here. Same same as with the 69. Okay. So yeah, into a four. Four. Yeah. Mhm. That’s Yeah. 210 210. Yeah. How much do you sort of factor that in? uh for your yardage and and your shot pick and so on. This lie here. Well, this was a obviously a very I mean you t couldn’t have done it any better than this. Yeah. But you if you’re sitting in the first cut or maybe in the divid or whatever, how what what what do you think then? Uh and what’s the impact on the yardage? Uh probably the biggest thing I notice is wet conditions. Yes. Like if you’re wet Mhm. wet semi lie. I always feel like I’m losing could be like could be up to a club. Okay. Um just cuz I feel it’s like poppy and weaker and like that that way. Um for me actually the the the wet should actually take off the spin. So you should see a higher launch uh and but with no spin and now in general you are on the higher end of spin as we talked about before. And that means that uh if if you’re you’re not getting that, it’s it’s sort of it’s going to throw off your what what your normal is. I definitely find like the my ball goes less far in the in the wet for me. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that’s funny. That’s funny because typically it’s actually the opposite, but you are the in the high spinning. Well, I might be wrong. Only only. Maybe uh we can try this out when it’s wet. Well, we have to have to spray it. Oh, spray it. Yeah. Yeah. Um okay, I’d be rescue job now. Rescue. Yes. And what’s the expectation on this one? Um, two sort of high 230s, 240. 240. Yeah. Yeah. Good one. That was a nice shot. Tailed a little left on the wind. So, uh, 240 on the number. Yep. Normalized. But look at at the actual here because of the wind. Yeah. Winds just kicked up. 214. Yeah, exactly. You’re 26 yards. You’re you’re you’re shorter because of that. It’s also on on the uh what’s the loft of of this one? 19. 19. Yeah. Kind of like a two iron. Two iron. Yeah. Again, we are on the in the higher regime where you like it on the spin. Yeah. Which is also why you’re getting that much hurt. Yep. Um threewood. Threewood. Yeah. Are we into uh how do you normally play it with or without? Use a teeg off the down swing. Teg on the down swing. That’ll help tee up. No, we’re not having it. We We can deck it. 260. 265. Yeah. Yeah. Off off a deck. A little bit further off a tea, probably. That was a better one. That’s nice. It’s going to be 65. Yeah, that was a good one. You pumped yourself up there. So 264 one yard off there and uh 249. You see here uh I don’t know if you noticed but the spin is is now only 3,400. Yeah. And before when we had the 26 hertz we were up at 4300 RPM. So again the lower spin just means that the variability uh is going to be less hitting it in or with or in or with the wind. Go ahead. So yeah. All right. Now it’s the big stick. The big dog. Big dog. Yeah. And what number will you be happy to see? Something beginning with a three. Something with a three. Um, I don’t know. I had a big lunch. Let’s say Let’s say 290. Okay. Let’s get it. It’s like higher out the face. It’s going to go less spin and go quite far probably. Yeah. There you go. 305. There you go. Exactly. High on the face. But but again, look look at what that means, right? Yeah. Uh because you have a very high ball speed, 176 here, and you’re, you know, now sub 2,000 RPM spin rate. That’s Yeah. Just my opinion. Not a great way to play golf all the time. But I’ll take I’ll take the miss. It’s a miss. I like it. You got your three number. I got my three number. There you go. It’s good. Good. I think we need to go I need to go work on hitting my seven iron further. Apart from that, it was all right. Yeah. Yeah. Starting with a lob wedge. Starting with a lob wedge. Oh, good. All out. Wow. Okay. And there’s no limits to how I how I create more yardage. Okay. Lob wedge. Go. Happy with that. You know how much down you went on this one? Quite a lot. Hopefully 12.2. Okay. Uh 1215. Okay. I’m happy. That was a good start with the Yeah. Yeah. Was that the 54? This is 54. Yeah. Wow. That’s long. It’s like my AI in that. You know what your club speed was on this uh 54? Jumped up and it 101. Was it one miles per hour? That’s amazing. Uh 136. 136. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, that feels like a good start. So, uh 50, right? 50. So, I guess we should be looking for about 150. We’ve gone from what we’ve done so far, right? Should play like this more often, should I? Yeah. Yeah. It’s a good good nice draw there. So, 150. So, you were spot on, actually. There you go. Um, we’re into wedge. Wedge pitch wedge. Yes. Slingshot. We’re 10 down on that one also. So, pretty. So, not more than that, but uh I only got I got and uh 156 and then uh yeah, but that’s also a trick, you know, have your face the path closed because you’re dealing with the club, right? You That’s the That’s got to be the way, hasn’t it? I actually slowed down a bit there. That was a bit of a That was That was a bit slow, wasn’t I? We good? Yep, we’re good. We’re into nine iron. Nine iron. Yep. That’s long. That’s long. That is long. Come on. That is 166. That’s disappointing. I thought it would be a bit more and actual 157. So, uh, yeah. Be in Australia soon with these divots, won’t we? I think deep. So, eight now. Eight. Yeah. It got up in the air like that. Well, one one normalized is 183 actually. Okay, we’ll take it. Yeah, because you had to, you know, you got a really uh close face to path here. Still still 10 down here. Still that that feels like that’s the trick. Yeah. See the noise that made? That’s a little lower apex than you’re used to. What was that? 55 apex feet. 184. So, oh, it’s kind of a normal seven. I missed that one. That’s going to let me down there. But maybe you know, you say remember Baba on 10th on the Masters from the Woods. Yeah. He was hitting that shot with I think it was a 50° wedge and and because he closed it so much, it actually went like his eight iron. Yeah. But but again just just the trick is to close it down and and to get that really deal off the club hitting down and so on. 600 66 on now. Yeah. Yeah. Got it. It’s jumped. 206 206. Okay. 206. Yeah. Feel like I need some I need to probably really lean into it now. Five iron. It’s serious. David’s coming out now. That one on the right. You could live in that. Right. Come on. Get one 110 mph five on. I think that’s the I think that’s the play. 207. Really? Do you think it’s come? It was too spinny, wasn’t it? Yeah, it was actually a little bit spinning. Spins killed me there. 5,700. Yeah. At some point, you start need to start to hit up on the ball instead of down. Yeah. So, it’s a probably around this. time where that matters. Shallow out. The draw will always make you go further because you’re delofting it. So, uh 21 18. I saying the wind has barely touched there, right? Yeah. On this one here, I think also becomes a little bit, you know, when when you draw it, fighting that wind. Yeah. Yep. Go. Rescue. Where we going now? Rescue. Yeah. That’s going out there. 111 on club speed, 166 ball speed. 25 252 keeps me in the game. Yeah. So, the 3-wood 3wood. It’s killed. That’s killed. That’s a good one. You You’re still hitting down on which uh let’s see. 277. 276. Five. What do I need? I need something ridiculous. Last shot. 276. We’re rounding up. We’re rounding up here. It was a five. Where did that go? That was 180 ball speed. So, that’s a that’s that’s a good shot at it. Uh, I mis said it, but I don’t know where it went. 313. 314. Okay, that’s all I got. 313. 313. Yeah. Go for a rest. But that was a good one. Thank you. That was a lot of fun. Good meeting you and thank you for what you did with the uh with the orange box. Absolutely cool. And we’ll keep pushing it.

Even he can’t launch a 4-iron at that speed, just goes to show. To low and not further than the 5.
What does normalised mean?
Should let fredrik hit a few see how he compares
