NDTV, an Indian news media company, has officially launched the NDTV Golf ProAm, a first-of-its-kind initiative that brings together professional golfers and corporate leaders on a shared platform.

The announcement, made at the NDTV World Summit 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, marks the network’s most ambitious foray yet into the world of sport and business.

The tournament, built around the “Professional-Amateur” or ProAm format, will see leading Indian and international golfers teaming up with senior corporate executives in a multi-city circuit beginning later this year.

Designed to blend competition, camaraderie, and corporate networking, the NDTV Golf ProAm is being positioned as one of the most prestigious events on India’s sporting calendar.

The launch drew a distinguished gathering of personalities from both the sporting and business worlds. Among those present were Kapil Dev, President of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI); Amandeep Johl, CEO of PGTI; Amitabh Kant, India’s former G20 Sherpa; and professional golfers David Howell and Ajeetesh Sandhu.

Speaking at the launch, Amitabh Kant highlighted golf’s enormous potential in India and said, “The sport with the maximum potential in India right now is golf. India is going to produce all the top champions of the world. Our demographic is very young – our average age is just 28. For the next 30 years, the world’s top golfers will come from India.”

Echoing this sentiment, Kapil Dev emphasized the inclusivity of golf as a lifelong game and added, “This is one game where you can play at whatever age you are. It’s very difficult for a cricketer or footballer to roll their arm at 50. Here, you can play with your father, your grandchildren, your friends, and your wife. That’s why this game is so big.

“As golfers, thank you so much for starting this. The media still hasn’t taken it up the way it should. When I heard that you were trying to do a Pro-Am, I can’t tell you how happy we were – and how happy the golfers were. They said, At least we will come on television.”

Rahul Kanwal, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of NDTV, set out the vision for the tournament and continued, “We are very excited about this ProAm because it gives golf in India the kind of scale and platform that sports like cricket typically get. It deserves that profile and that stage. That is what we hope to do with NDTV ProAm.”

The NDTV Golf ProAm will debut in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, with extensive coverage across NDTV’s broadcast and digital platforms. Beyond competition, the event is expected to serve as a high-profile networking avenue for India’s business community, while showcasing the elegance and strategic depth of golf to a broader audience.

Sports analysts believe the launch reflects a broader shift in India’s sporting economy, where brands and media companies are increasingly blending lifestyle, leadership, and sport into unified experiences. NDTV’s entry into this space, backed by its storytelling expertise and national reach, could significantly expand the game’s footprint.

As the ProAm circuit prepares to tee off, the spotlight will be on how it redefines accessibility and visibility for golf in India. Whether it becomes a catalyst for new players or a benchmark for corporate sporting events, the NDTV Golf ProAm has already set the tone for a fresh chapter in India’s sporting narrative.

For NDTV, this isn’t just about golf. It’s about transforming a niche sport into a national conversation, one tee shot at a time.
