I put the brand new Amazon Basics golf balls to the ultimate test against the legendary Titleist Pro V1. 🏌️‍♂️ Using my launch monitor, I hit a series of shots with four different clubs — lob wedge, 7 iron, 5 wood, and mini driver — to see how these budget balls really stack up.

Can a $15 box of balls compete with one of golf’s most premium names? We’ll find out as I break down ball speed, spin rate, carry distance, and feel — all backed by real numbers.

Whether you’re a mid-handicapper looking to save money or a gear junkie chasing the perfect ball, this test might surprise you.

Today we’re going to ask the million-dollar question. Is the brand new cheap Amazon golf ball actually better than the best ball in golf? The title is Prov1. Practice box open. And there you go. The yellow Amazon Basics Golf Ball. For our test, we’re going to make it as simple as possible. The Titalist Pro V1 is going to be our control, our baseline. I’m going to hit 80 yardish, like 3/4 shots with my lob wedge. I’m also going to do seven iron, seven wood, and driver. And at the very end of the video, after we talk about everything, I’ll also hit a few putts to give you my feedback on how the ball actually feels. But for now, I’ve got to gather some data. So, let’s make this quick and painless. [Music] So, our baseline is out of the way. Let’s go straight over to the Amazon Basics bowl and see what those look like. This not good when you blade it over the green. That’s probably a bad option. Let’s try again. What the hell is that? I l Well, we’ve got all those baselines. We’re going to quickly hit driver and then it’s time to talk number cuz that’s what we’re all here for, right? Holy sh Well, all the numbers are right here. First, we’re going to go over the baseline numbers, which was again with the Pro V1. Starting off with the driver that’s actually not a driver, and it’s our Lob Wedge. Sorry for the confusion. Ball speed was going to be 71.3. Our launch angle was 32.7. Our backspin was 10,025, which again is pretty great for an 80yard shot. Our descent angle was just shy of 50. Our peak height was 61 ft, which for me is absolutely perfect. I want the ball to stay really low. I want it to penetrate. I want it to not get destroyed by the wind. The low high spin balls are perfect. Carry was right on the dots. 80.1. Moving down to the 7iron now. 121.3 ball speed. Pretty decent launch angle at 19.2. Our backspin at 5400. Again, not super high, but with today’s modern lofts and whatnot, seems pretty decent to me, especially when it is saying the angle is 48. Our peak height is 106. Our average carry with the 7iron was 176.2. Finishing off with the 5wood now 144 ball speed, 141 launch angle, backspin was 3757. The set angle was 44.3 at 110 peak height. Those numbers look pretty great to me. The carry was just shy of 230 yards. Again, all numbers that I’m seeing for the most part on the golf course. I’m pretty happy with those. Comparing it now to the Amazon Basics Ball. Ball speed was within 1 mph at 70.2. Launch angle was a little higher at 34. Again, as I mentioned briefly in the hitting part of the video, felt like the ball was kind of riding up on the face and almost like it was knuckling. And I don’t know how to explain it, but it didn’t feel all that great. The backspin is where things get a little scary. 8534. Again, not tragic, not awful, but clearly significantly different and significantly less spin than what we were seeing with the premium ball. The sin angle was 49.5. Peak high was exactly the same at 61. The carry was with within a yard. It was 79 of the 80 that we were looking for. So again, pretty solid. Moving over to the 7iron. Again, this is where things get a little sketchy. Ball speed was way less. 116.1. Launch angle was 20.4. And the back spin, the back spin is is kind of scary to look at. 4132. Yeah, pretty bad with the 7ironir. Even with the fact that our descending was, you know, acceptable at 46°. The peak height was at 100. Again, decent. It’ll it’ll try to stop on a green. I I won’t promise it’ll do a great job at it, but, you know, it’s something. The average carry was 174.5, which was surprisingly for what is that five or six miles an hour less ball speed than the premium ball within a yard and a half or two yards. Like props to it. But clearly the reason it’s getting that much extra carry is because the backspin is so low. So it’s kind of just like a driving seven iron. It’s like knuckling in the sky. But you know, it is what it is. Moving over now to the fivewood. Again, I see that says 3-wood on the screen, but I promise you it is a fivewood. Ball speed once again significantly slower. 6 mph slower to be exact. 137.4. Launch angle was 15.2. The backspin was a drastic 2836. The descent angle was again very different from what we saw with the premium ball. This one being at 40.6. Peak height again different from the premium ball at just shy of 100. And our carry was 227 within a few yards of the premium ball. If all you care about is carry, clearly what we’re seeing here is you’re going to get really close to that number. There’s other things that happen in golf. Spin is one of the key elements to playing golf at all on any level. And it seems like clearly this Amazon Basics ball spin is not ideal. But again, maybe I don’t cut at the ball. I don’t slice the ball. Maybe this thing is the saving grace of somebody that deals with that. I I don’t know for certain. But yeah, those are what the numbers look like with the woods and irons. Let’s quickly look now at the driver stat. Well, I actually use mini driver because my space is a little smaller and I always hit the lights with driver cuz the shaft is just longer. So, we use mini driver, but hopefully you guys can kind of follow along here. 147 was the ball speed at 16 launch. 2351 spin is pretty decent for mini driver when I’m teeing it up off the ground like a regular driver. Again, mini driver off the deck. It’s it’s a completely different story, but for hitting it off the tea, we like that. The sin angle at 41.2 2 if that matters to you. And a whopping 114 ft of peak height, which for me is super massive. That is a towering drive. 255 1/2 yards of total carry with the mini driver. I’m pretty proud of that. You know, I don’t I’m not like a a guy that can smash the ball super, you know, far. I don’t have crazy high club head speed. So, we like those numbers, but this is not about me. It’s actually about the golf ball. So, 276 total. Uh I guess that matters for this. But uh yeah, pretty reasonable numbers there with the mini driver. Going down now to the Amazon Basics ball. Again, 2 1/2 mph difference for ball speed. That’s pretty sizable. To be honest, that didn’t swing it any different. Launch angle was way lower, though. Again, it’s over a very small sample size of ball. So, we’ll just call that one a little bit negligible. Don’t think that mattered too much. Backspin was again within reason. the only time it was really really within reason of the uh premium ball at 2418. The descent angle again 36.9. We’ll just it is what it is. Maybe I hit like a lower one in there when I wasn’t trying. Peekai was 91 ft. So again, you’re seeing the window is a little lower with this ball. I don’t know if that’s going to carry over for regular driver or maybe it’ll help stop ballooning balls. I don’t know. But carry is is significantly less here. 10 yards shorter and that’s going to carry over to 12 yards shorter in total distance. Not all that great. My wrapping thoughts are going to be pretty simple though. If you are new and just getting into golf, without a doubt, the Amazon Basics ball is something that you can pick up. If you can get past the fact that the ball just doesn’t spin for the life of itself, it’s actually really decent. I don’t like the feel personally and when it comes off the face, it just feels it just just doesn’t feel right. It’s I don’t know how to explain it outside of the fact that it just feels like a dead tennis ball. Yeah, that’s kind of how I feel about the golf ball. That’s all the statistics I could provide to you. And on your screen now, you’re going to see and hear a little bit of the putts. The putting with this was pretty abysmal. Uh it I felt like I was giving within the same, you know, 10%ish of stroke, but the ball was kind of going way further randomly. Uh the springiness was there when when I putt with the ball, so there’s that. But yeah, I don’t really know how to feel about this ball as uh as it pertains to putting. It was just super soft feeling. I couldn’t feel any feel or feedback from the ball. And uh compared to a premium ball, I think this is where it really lacks. I just want to thank you guys for watching this video though. If you got anything out of this, if you want to try this ball out for yourself, you can check it on Amazon. I don’t make any money for from letting you guys know to do so. I will say this ball’s actually great. Any competition is good. The fact that the monopoly of the golf industry and the fact that they’re able to rip us off and charge us five $6 a damn golf ball is an absolute joke. So if somehow within reason Amazon or Kirkland, any random brand can make something that works or is is even remotely close, we’d be so grateful. But for the time being, Titus is still the king.
