WA OPEN Round 3 Highlights

Edwards here going with the cross-handed amai got off to a great start. This for yet another birdie leftander coming in from the left side. Perfect angle for the pin today here on the fifth. They’ve sort of put it middle of the green. Fairly generous pin position just couple of days which was fantastic. We’re on the eighth now with Jared Edwards. Green light here for Edwards. That pin 24 on and eight from the left. And that’s a fantastic shot tomorrow in the final stages. Now back on eight. Huge drive here from Thompson. 79 in hand. Hear the ball land from here and keeping it on this green and two. You’ve done exceptionally well. So taking the south safe route there low and no trouble there Nick. Yeah, plenty of green to work with. So good smart shot now out there playing as we take a look at Hayden Baron. Perfect angle to this back left pin today. Oh, and he cashes in beautifully. It’s a little heavy. Yeah, that’s when you slow down in the down swing though. Or a great contrast, should I say. Now Thompson, he’s taken the higher route. Just needs to settle. Pretty good effort from down there. He’s very confident in his chipping. Marco Thompson outright leader at seven under. As Nichas referenced, no bunkers around this hole here on 10 and very tight. So taking the putter out is a is a good option on the green. It’s going to go in Mark Leechman territory at the back edge. That’s definitely not where you want to be. He’s trying to hit a nice high fade in there. Work it off the middle of the green. He’s done well. First landing it on the front edge and excellent shot from over there into the gum tree middle of the green and draw one in. Very nice both hitting beautiful shots there with a wedge in hand. Little bit of a down slope. Got to be careful this doesn’t shoot on him. Oh, that’s a uh a wrong club that one. Round one leader. He’s currently at five under on the 11th. He’ll take a two putt here, Nick, won’t he? That’s up the hill and down the hill and right to left. And yeah, he almost needed to putt that off the green to get that one close. But when on a golf course like this, as we go to Quail on his second shot, on 13, sorry, on 12, but you don’t know how you’re going to react. He’s a rookie. Six PGA titles to his name. That’s an impressive shot to get all the way back there. Yeah, it certainly is. He’s just got to play more tournaments and and really just grind it out every week. And with this, he’s going to try to slide the club underneath. Oh, that’s called the old hosel rock at that one. Yep. I don’t think he got low enough there. Brett Rumpford does. Yeah, that’s a good one to copy. Well, our leader right now, I don’t think he’s going to be the leader after this, unless Oh, that would have been some parath. 14 or 15ks today. Yeah, you kind of get the feeling Oliver Becka sitting there at four under par, shot a 68. You watch Jared Edwards. What a par that was. Quite a save. Well, how how about Hayden Hopewell? Well, the other difficult bit is that you want to get the more lofted clubs on the fairway. So, if you take drive and you miss the fairway, you get punished as Oh, that’s the first putt we’ve seen hold today from Cameron John. That’ll catapult him to the top of the leaderboard. All of a sudden, we’ve got a four-way tie at the top. Thank you very much. Can get away from you if you’re not careful. I think he must have mis hit that first putt to be that far short. Either that or he’s thinking, don’t putt it in the bunker. Come on. Yes, sir. Oh, yes. He’s playing it cool karma collected right there, but he is Ouch. Yep. That’s going to be a tough up and down. Pretty steep slope he’s got to come up if he didn’t go in the bunker as we go back to Thompson with his third and coming up short of the ridge halfway up the green. You shouldn’t sound so happy when you talk about me walking around in the rain tomorrow, N. But uh yeah, we are expecting the hardest of it all. A bit of bit of water, even more wind. So, these guys just know they’ve got to get into position really. Yeah, they’re just NEZ. They’re tucked in some in some really They’re all interesting greens. They’ve got a lot of slopes, a lot of mounds, a lot of areas that are just difficult to read. So, when you’re looking at them visually, they might look like they’re going to go one way, but the little ridge sort of throws it another way. And the pins have been not far on the edges or on the fronts and backs of green.
