I visited Crook Golf club during the week to test my game for the weekend competition.

I haven’t travelled to Crook in a while and being winter conditions back end of October I didn’t know what to expect. I was very impressed and the greens and Tee boxes were immaculate.

I set myself a target yo break 85 with it being such a testing course and also to adapt to conditions. I brought the Tiger Slayer yo test it’s potential also.

Well worth a watch to see how well this course is kept in winter.

I’m the host as usual. Um, and that’s it, isn’t it? I’ve said everything. Uh, I’ve come to Crook today. Uh, preparing for Saturday. Preparing for Saturday. It it Friday looks tomorrow looks a bit dodgy, the weather and everything, but so I’ve decided to come here Crook. It’s it’s it’s one of my favorite courses again up there with Durham City and it was okay this morning. And I woke up this morning and I went, “Okay, well, we’ll give um a go today for one of challenges, shooting 80 challenges, and it’s absolutely Baltic. It’s It’s absolutely Baltic up here. We’re up here in the hills and everything. Nothing really crook can do about it. It’s just one of these things.” But yeah, um I’ve always enjoyed crook Golf Club. Um it’s it’s it’s a top course, honestly. It’s it’s a really good course. It deserves more credit than it’s getting. It was £22 around today. Uh full course on as we can see and everything. The white T’s are right at the back. So I’m just going to put me tripod here. And I’m just going to go between the yellows and the whites to start off with because it’s quite um there’s not much further back I can go really before it gets a bit there and there. And we’ll take it from there really. So yeah, we’re at Crook. First hole 315 y. Um, and that’s it really. That’s it. It’s a shoot 80 challenge. I’m going to try my best today. I’m going to have to play some bloody good golf today cuz um it’s a tough place. It’s a tough place. This is the next level above see by the way. Seam’s a tough golf club, but this is this is tough. But yeah, so um I did a video before. Wasn’t like I say, I’m doing a bit more professional now. But hopefully for you who haven’t seen the course, I’m going to do the full video again uh to show you what it’s like. Uh this is winter time by the way. So this is what it’s like in the winter. Um it’s looking in good condition despite a bit of rain and stuff. It’s it’s looking in good condition. Crook and it’s it is a good golf course. The pis screens looks good. I’ve put the Tiger Slayer in. Since I brought 80 at Wilton, I’ve said, “Right, I’m going to challenge myself.” And this is one club I really would love to break 80 on or shoot 80. Shoot. Shoot 80. Let’s say I’ve got 10 shots. It’s a par 70. Let’s give it a go. First hole. 315 yds from the backs. Best of luck, John. Thanks, John. Let’s enjoy it. Am I up for this today? Tell you what, I hope the rain keeps off cuz uh for this time of year, by the way, come to the end of October, this course is in immaculate condition. Look at the greens, the bunkers. Okay, the the sands look a bit wet and damp because there’s nothing much crook can do about that. That’s just the the weather and everything. But the it’s looking absolutely immaculate, by the way. It deserves more credit, this place. It’s a great golf course. It’s I’m sorry, I forgot to give you the the stats. The stats. 5,955 y 70 slope 132 69.5 slope uh course r 18 70 I’ve said that um just under 6,000 y 70 but trust me this this plays a lot harder than that. It sounds simple. Oh 9 5,950 y 70. Oh that sounds all right. Trust me this is not a simple course. This is undulation. This is this is like this is the level of overseeing. This is a bloody bloody tough t um tough course at local level and you’ve got to be on your game. This is it’s also got sideways undulations like Wilton as well. It’s a very very tough course. It’s local knowledge. You need to know where to hit, where to miss. You can’t you can’t play crap here and and and and get away with it. It’s It’s very much a course that um challenges every category of your game. And it’s Baltic out here, by the way, the wind and everything. It’s meant to be uh 9°. It doesn’t feel it. Uh 54 yds winds helping slightly. It was a good drive that straight over the steak. Really good drive to get to here just on the uh number. Well, is this class as rough or fairway? Probably just rough, isn’t it? Yeah, probably just in the rough. Okay, 54. Wind help. I’m going to go me 58 again. I’m using me tripod, so bear with us. Bear with us. It’s very quiet today. Um crook, so I can just do whatever I want really. I can use the tripod. Uh okay. So, probably play about 45 middle of the green. Just hinge and hold. Hit the middle of the green. Run it down there. And I think that’s about it really. I think of what I remember it does go a little bit left to right. Okay. So clear about 45. I’ve started a bit too far left. I mean That That really is vanilla, isn’t it? To start off with. That’s vanilla. I was expecting a little bit better than that. I’ve started it too far left, of course. Playing distance is probably okay, but I started too far left. See if we see it for me. Put Yeah, that’s that’s just bland. There’s no no excitement. There’s no Like I say, me playing distance is spot on. I got me playing distance spot on. a new 45, it will play 55. And uh I got it absolutely spot on cuz believe it or not, believe it or not, I I have played this course before, but it’s just put a bit of taste in me mouth that I didn’t get it a bit straighter, you know. Right, this is um I’ve got the Tiger Slayer out after Welton breaking 80 at Welton. Hopefully this will help me break 80 here. It must have some sort of magical powers because off the metal tease, I’ve never broke 80 off Wilton and all of a sudden I shoot a 76. Mind everything went right for us. So, we’ll see. Uh we’ll see what happens here. But to shoot 80 here, I have to play magnificent golf here cuz it’s windy, it’s cold, sun’s out, but we’ve got to get bits of rain here and there. I think this is right to left. Nice white holes again as well like Durham City that they do things right at Crook, you know, they the do things properly here. It’s uh it’s a really good nick. Well worth the 22 quid green fee so far. Um yeah, we take it from there really. I’ve just got to make sure I get the pace. Go on, son. Oh Jesus. Oh, I thought I had it. It just turned at the last minute on the left hand side. I really, really thought I had that. I thought, wow, I’ve started with a birdie here and ah, never mind. Yeah, well done. Good part to start off with. Uh, yeah, what a way that would have been to start a birdie on uh on Crook. I I probably need it to be honest, but yeah, good start. On to number two. Right, second hole. Um, and that’s the end of the easy holes, by the way. That’s the end of that for now for the easy holes. Good start with a four. Uh, right. 178 it reckons. So, I’ll just put me four down there. 178. This reckons. Now, the Oh, they’ve put the pin right onto the right hand side. So, they’re tempting me to go for it. Uh, blustery wind and all sorts. And yeah, it’s 181. Of course, it’s 181. Of course, it’s going to be it’s its yardage. It’s wind interface over to the right hand side. Uh this this is difficult today. This is difficult, especially with wind interface. I’m going to go um it’s going to have to be me hybrid, isn’t it? There’s no real option. If the wind’s into my face and to the right, it’s going to have to be a hybrid. Yeah, it’s a great course, Crook. Honestly, it’s a great course here. And there’s nothing here to change me so far that it’s not a great course. It’s in great condition. I mean that green looks immaculate from here. Um really nice little opening hole that and this is this is a difficult part three. Now if I have to go left hand side, you can’t go right. If you go right hand side and you hit off the slope, you you’re boogered basically. You just you’re down with the crows and the skeletons and the dead men tell no time tail sign. It’s um it’s no good down there. It ain’t any good down there. I know. I know. I know this course. I basically know this. I know what I’m facing here. That’s the problem. I know what I’m doing. It’s exactly like Wilton. This is very, very similar to Wilton. You’ve got to be on your game. Just this is Mulland golf. It’s more mullandy. Wilton’s more Parkland. So, I really know what I’m up against here. Believe it or not, the tree, the evergreen tree on the left hand side, the very last one’s got to be the line. I’m going to go a nice little punchy hybrid. I’m going to try and hit that slope. Manipulated that way. I don’t want to be anywhere near the right. If I’m near the right hand side here, you’re knackered. You’re just knackered. You’re like I say, you’re you’re in the you’re down with the the crows and the skeletons. You don’t want to be down there. Right. Just to the left hand side. Nice little punchy shot. And let’s see if I can I can produce one here. Oh, it’s more central. It should be okay. It’s right. It’s It’s It’s just to the left of the flag stick now. That’s 50/50. I’ve got a horrible feeling I’ve gone too central there. I’ve got a horrible feeling I’ve gone too central. That might be down down in that in that bailout area on the right. I’m I’m Oh, I don’t know. If it’s carried all the way and hit the green, I might get away with that. But I’ve got a horrible feeling it’s been short. Hit the hump and it’s kicked off. Right. We’ll see. We’ll see when we get down there. Yeah. Why I am I’m I’m down here with the skeletons and everything like like I thought I would. And I’m short as well. I mean that that’s played pretty. I hope this is gonna stay up because it’s very hilly here. I should have put me st one in actually. I should have, but it means switching over. Right, we’ve got 26 y. Wind’s right this way. I’ve got to get height. I’ve got to get it quick. And I’ve got to get distance with it. So, I’ll play it about 30 yards. I can see where the flag’s at. Just right. It’s the worst place they could have put it. They put it in a really tough position. Um, to me, that’s a competition position. It’s there’s no real, like I said, there’s no bunkers or anything apart from I in fact I don’t even think there’s bunkers on the left hand side. It’s just all natural hazards with this hole. It’s all natural hazards and it’s it’s a really good hole this. It doesn’t need bunkers. It’s a It’s a great hole. So, about 30 flopping it up just to the left there. Get it over and hopefully it’ll stop. Oh no, it’s come out hot. It’ll Yeah, it’s rolled back down. It’s back. It’s It’s on the fringe of the green. It’s okay. But I mean, Ah, damn it. I knew that was going to happen. It was a bloody difficult shot that. See you down there. But actually, it’s got stuck in the roof. Yeah, with it being windy, this tripod’s going to be a struggle. I might have to put it on me trolley. Yeah, it’s wobbling about a bit. It’s not going to be any good for the So, yeah. Um, I’m here. Uh, you just stand still, right? I’ve got uh a little chip here. about 15 yards. I need to get this stiff. I really do for me part put a right. Uh is that okay up there for the for the angle for the putt? I’ve got this one. I’ve got this for bogey to get out with a bogey. I really need this. I really need this. I can’t have a double bogey at this stage. I can’t I can’t at the second hole have a double bogey. Have a blowout. Come on, son. Left edge with a tiger slayer. This will get you out of it. Come on. No. Not really what I was wanting. Double bogey on that hole. I mean, it can happen to the best of us when we’re going I’m going over and we trolley to a couple away. Yeah, it can happen to the best of us that it can happen to the best of us. It’s just if you miss down on that right hand side, it’s very easy to get a double. You can see on the third. Yeah, it’s not really what you’re wanting, is it? It’s not really what you want in a double bogey at that stage. Uh, and and this doesn’t ease up either, by the way. 3.99 off the back just doesn’t ease up at all. So, I’ve got uh eight to play with. Damn it. I’ve lost two shots already just like that. That’s what I mean, Croc. If you if you hit the wrong area, I mean on a normal course, if that was like T-side or something like that, very flat course. That was directly at the flag and I would have got away with that. That would have been a great shot. But it ain’t a great shot at Crook. It’s just too straight. Wind’s back into face over onto the right hand side. This is going to play along as well. This is going to play bloody long. I mean, I’m going off the backs here. I don’t know why. I don’t know why I said I’m going to try and break it. It’s It’s not going to happen, is it? Um, this is uh this is hard tough conditions. I don’t know why I said I’m going to try and break 80. It’s we’re in winter time now and it’s it’s getting tough out here, right? Um, this hole I’m going to have to take a little bit lower. I’m going to do more of a lynxy drive cuz going directly into the wind, a 30 mph wind. Um, starting lines, the middle of those trees. If it fades, okay, I’m I’m I’m all right with this. I’ll be okay with this. I know what I’m doing. I just know if I get it down, I’m going to be left 200 y, right? That’s a good eight. right side, right side fairway. Maybe just popping into the rough, but I just know I’ve got 200 y left. I just know I said I’ve hit that well, but I just know with the wind so strong on my face, I’ve got about 200 y left and it’s it’s just plain ridiculous today. See you down there for me second. Yeah, not as good as I thought. Not as good as I thought. I’m just trying to find somewhere where it’s appropriate to put this be a bit better there actually. It’s a bit more stable there. Yeah. Um right. Um I wasn’t far off the yardage. 190 yards to the middle according to me watch. And it’s it’s blown. Like I say, the wind was over to the right. It’s kicked off the slope and it’s brought us right down here. 194. Right. Uh, I don’t even think without lie I could even get me hybrid on it. I mean, you can see the situation. I’ll have a look. But, uh, it’s thick rough. That’s buried right in. I can’t I’m just going to have to treat this as getting it down there. Just get it down there. Get a wedge on and have your par put, son. You just got to accept this ain’t uh this just ain’t getable. This ain’t getable in in in in two today. Uh using my seven iron. I’m going to guide it round. Do a little draw around. Get it there. Get me wedge on and try and par it. That’s all I can do here. This is This is a hard hole today. There we go. That’s me point. That’s my point. I think I think we’ve learned a valuable lesson here. I think after this shot, I’m going to just have to put it on the tripod. It’s It’s not going to work this, is it? It’s not going to work. This the uh the clamp. Sorry. We’ll wait for this just to die down. Right. Yeah. I just don’t think it’s going to work. Yeah, you could. I mean, I’ve hardly I’ve hardly Oh, it’s back into the rough. I’ve hardly hit that 100 yards, I reckon. I mean, you could see how thick it was and how the ball came out. It was just really It was thick stuff. Say third. Yeah. Sorry about the tripod, folks. It’s just It’s just not going to work. It’s too It’s too windy today, I think. Uh yeah, it’s on the zoom feature. I don’t really want that. We’ll just leave it as it is for now. Right. Uh about 95. Like I say, I hardly advanced it. It was just thick garbage. I’ve got to get on in three here. Got to get on in three. 98. Uh it’s just going to be it’s just going to be very difficult today. And it’ll put us in goodstead for Saturday. This put us in goodstead. I mean, where’s me pitching wedge? It’ll put us in good in a good mindset cuz this is tough. This is tough out here. Wind still in the face. 98. I think a n iron even. Hit a 9 iron. It’s going to play about 120 this. Believe it or not, it’s it’s Oh, I’ve got me light on now. What is going on with this? Left hand side manipulating it round. Got me nine iron. Playing hard today. Uh, it’s on. It’s going to be vanilla, but it’s on. It’s It’s not perfect. It’s uh center center right green. I think the slopes obviously taken it round. You could see that it’s not perfect, but I’ve got a putt. I’ve got a put for park down there. Yeah, vanilla. But it’s a putt. It’s a putt. Uh, the greens are looking so well here at Crook, by the way. They really are looking very very well and healthy and I don’t know who the green keeper is but he’s doing a bloody great job. Uh the pure very much like um Durham City the pure I mean Durham City was a bit slower than this to be fair but these are the these are really good these greens. I mean uh there’s me pitch mark I better replace that. But yeah, it’s it’s it’s keeping it’s very very good. It’s keeping very well this course. So, whoever’s the uh the green keeper is doing a really good job. Yeah, if I’ve got too many pitch marks. Yeah, he’s doing a really good job. So, well done whoever you are. Um, I mean this is like in the middle of summer. If this was if if I came for a turn open, something like that, I would say, “Bloody hell, these are immaculate, these greens.” They really are. They kept really well. Right to left, little bit uphill. Come on, Tiger Slayer. How this footp a I’ve overdone the p that’s ter that’s terrible from me that I thought it was going to be really quick and it’s it’s just not just outside on the right. Come on. Yeah. Well done. Great put. Well done. God, I needed that. So, I’m going to give that another go. Uh just just just just to get the pace. I mean, that was I thought it was going to shoot down that way and I thought it’s going to gather pace and it just didn’t. It just ended up being halfway. Harry, try again. It is sharp mind, isn’t it? It is sharp. But if anything, it’s slowed up on me. It hasn’t It hasn’t ran down. It’s If anything, it’s gone backwards. If anything, it’s gone. It’s back span. It’s going It’s going the other way around. Never mind. Never mind. Never mind. I’ll I’ll I’ll pick it up as we go along. I’ve got out with a bogey anyway. Three over. I couldn’t have another double bogey. That would have been me well and truly booged. On to number four. I’ve told you with crook it’ll challenge the best. It’s not uh it sounds simple. It sounds simple under 6,000 yards par 70, but it’s it doesn’t play like that. Trust me. Uh that’s a five. 196. Just doesn’t ease up, does it? 196. Uh this one goes down the hill. I think you’ll Well, if you if you followed me before, you’ll know Crook very well. If you haven’t, you haven’t played it, it’s an interesting course. You enjoy this 190 199, but I think the wind’s helping me a little bit now. It is downhill. I’ve played this before. I’ve played this anywhere between sort of a bloody six eye to a to a 3wood, depending on what the wind’s doing. Uh, where’s the wind going across? To the right by the looks of it and helping. Sorry, to the left and helping. 190. Four iron. Four iron. We’re going to go for the right edge of the green. and it should gather around the slope. It should go and that should be it really. I don’t you don’t really want to be at the back. But at the same time, you see, you look at it and you go, “Oh, it’s all the way down the hill.” It is all the way down the hill. But once you get to the bottom of the hill about 20 yards short, it then goes back up again like that. So if you’re thinking of running it down and then you can’t because it scurries back up again. So you’ve still got to hit it hard. I’ve got to go right hand side green. If the wind takes it round that well, so be it. But that’s the line just outside of the right edge of the green. Take it from there. And I just need a good good solid strike. And wherever it ends up, I’ve just got to accept it. As long as I’ve hit the hit the strike that I wanted, wherever it ends up, I’ve just got to accept it for what it is. That is a good hit. That’s a very good strike. And I’ve started off just outside of my line. Yeah, that’s that that should kick round. It should it should anyone see where me tea went? It should uh it should kick round and it it should be okay. that it shouldn’t be it shouldn’t be anything too uh here it is stuck in the ground. It shouldn’t be anything too violent. Immaculate tea boxes by the way. They are absolutely bloody immaculate these tea boxes. I don’t think has anyone can Can I be honest, Crook? Has anyone actually played on this course in the last two weeks? Cuz it’s just immaculate. I mean, has anyone actually has any members actually played on this in the last couple of weeks? I’ve never seen at this time of year. I’ve never seen a tea box so immaculate. Just fantastic. See you for me next shot. Oh, I have. I have. I’ve gone off the back. I thought that wasn’t possible with a four iron. So, it was a five iron with the wind helping slightly. Wow. Okay. Wow. Uh that’s just lack of knowledge that I mean I did say and by the way if you do if you do go too far back I mean I haven’t obviously if you go another 10 yards back there’s the quarry bit at the back you’ve got to be careful a big pond and everything you just don’t want to be in that um I I’ve I’ve got a bit of a shock there I know the wind was quite quite a bit helping about a 17 mph wind but I’m I’m I’m quite shocked that I’ve I’ve gone over there because you can see you can see from here it gives you the perfect angle this hole of what happens. You see you see that there it goes downhill and you right well I can just bump it and run it up to the green. So that’s what I was thinking first I’ll just take a five run it down because I’ve played the course a few times I can’t do that cuz if I if I just run it down it’ll be in that collection area. I’ve still got to because it it it then goes back up like that into a ball and you you’ve got to you’ve got to carry it and run it up and up. You know what I mean? It’s a hard shot. Just a bloody hard shot. I’ll just I’ll just say this in simple terms. It’s a bloody hard shot. Right. Uh 17 17 yards. Um even here, I think it’s going to go up here and then it’s going to do that. So, I want to be going right side. Right. Open the grip in the stance. Front foot. This is another tricky one. This in winter, you know, it’s a hard shot. Yeah, that’s that’s that’s too good. You know, you know what the problem was there? It was so soft. I did it so soft. It was too good. And it’s gone off the other side that I thought it was going to go going. Never mind. Pop. Yeah, I never thought I was going to say that, but that that shot was actually too good. That’s the one that Phil does that. He just flops up. I’ve learned it off Phil. The front foot the front foot restore and then you just restore the loft. you you know and then you you gently just you’re still aggressive but then it pops up and you think okay then it just lands soft and it just want two bounces and that’s it. It was too good a shot. That was the problem. It was too good a shot. Plus the slope I got it totally wrong. I thought it was going to go the opposite way it did. Right. Uh putting for par to long and one two three four five about well that’s 51 15 I would say about 16 17 footer uh left to right quite a big one as well so maybe where a little dot is you see it on camera but that’s what I’m going four slow. I thought the greens were going to be a bit quicker than this. It’s a uh it’s a four. I’m going to take that again. I’ve The putting greens were quite quick. Putting greens were quite sharp actually. And it’s it’s caught me out this a little bit. That’s it. That’s the sort of speed. That’s the sort of speed. So, brake was a bit more than you thought, but yeah, that’s all right. Apart from the wind, you know, this is this is actually a canny day, crook. It’s not bad. Just a little bit cold, that’s all. And 9° has turned into 3°. See, for the next one, the tripod does here. See if it hold up. Right. Uh at this right I’m going to have to start paring all here. I mean it’s it’s this is 378 up the bank but I’m going to have to start paring all here. I know the conditions are in my mind today. If I if I break 85 I’ve done bloody well cuz it’s it is tough out here. The wind’s picking up. There’s all sorts of things going on here. So if I break 85 I’ve done all right here. Wind directly into bloody face again. Uh lower tea. Right side fairway. Little cut. Got to hit a good drive here. It’s going to be the same result as the last time we played the third, isn’t it? It’s going to be another 200 y up the hill. Right. Come on, son. Yeah, perfect. You can see I tried to You see I’ve tried to keep that low, right? But the wind’s so strong. 30 odd mile an hour. Whatever I did, that was just going to balloon straight up in the air. That if I went for your normal drive, that would have went skyhigh. It would have been a 200T apex. Uh that that’s that’s all right. That’s straight down the middle of the fairway. But I know I’ve got about 190 in. I can do about it. See you down there. Ah, I wasn’t far off, was I? I wasn’t far off. 185. 185. I I can I can’t see the pin from here. I’m that far back. In the summer, I’d be up to about 150, but I’m that far back. I cannot see. I can see the marker. I can see the the cross on the marker. So, you know what? From this distance, it’s irrelevant. I’m not I said, didn’t I? I says, I’m going I know exactly what I’m going to be dealt with. I’m going to be dealt with a about a one a 190 uh a 190 shot. And I’m not far off it. uh up the hell. I mean, this is ridiculous. Even with my best stripe with me hybrid, I don’t I don’t think I’m getting it there. I have got me four and a half wood, but I’m I’m not I’m not going to I’m not going to uh use it cuz it’s not consistent enough for um from this from this yardage on this slope. It’s just it’s just not consistent enough. Um, the chances are the wind going right, you’ll just take it right with the slope and I’ll just end up in the trike. So, I’m going uh hybrid, punching it just as low links as hard as I can. Probably the line of them trees there to the left of the green. And I’m just hoping to go I’m hoping to go Id get. I mean, look at this, man. You can you can you can see what I’m dealt with. Uh, got no chance, right? So, drill it through and just get it up there. Let’s get a wedge onto the green. Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. It’ll be safe. I’ve got a shop, but that’s pathetic. I’ve tried too hard there. I tried too hard to keep it low. I know what I did. I really tried to drive and I’ve just I’ve just I’ve just I’ve duffed it. I’ve healed it and duffed it because I tried to keep it so low off the deck. Save for me third. Yeah, it’s a hard enough course without this. It’s a hard enough course without this. Luckily, I’ve just gone into the rough. The rough stopped it. I’ve still got about 90 yards to the flag, but luckily I can see the flag now. 92. It g force wind right into me face. Nine iron again. Yeah, I know exactly what I what happened. I’ve tried to drive it. I’ve I’ve tried to drive too hard. I’ve opened the face. What I’ve tried to do is do I’ve gone in. Probably left side and 18 yards. It’s playing about 25 that, but I’ I’ve really got to just look to flop it up, hit it to the front of the Well, I’ve just got to put it on a penny really, haven’t I? Because if I try and just do the safe shot, it’ll run to the back of the green. There’s that. It’s too high to stop it dead. I’m going to have to flop it up. Right up in the grip and stance. I think the first should be the easiest hole here at Crook. And then yes, this one 357 down the hill. You’ve got you’ve got trees tree line left hand side. You’ve got out you’ve got trees farmers field and tripe on the right hand side trees all down the left fairway slopes right to left. 357 yards to a green where you’ve got to get everything’s got to be right on the green otherwise it’ll go off to the left hand side. Stroke index 18. Yeah, it’s it’s a dead simple hole this. Yeah. Yeah. Really simple crook. Um I think the first one should be should be stroke index 18 to be honest. But I think there’s a rule isn’t there or something that you in the first four holes or something you can’t have stroke something like that. I don’t know. I I I would reckon the first one’s the hardest. Uh the wind’s going to help me a little bit. Uh I hope you can go as far left as you want. You’ll not lose your ball far left here, but you will if you go right, son. So, I would say middle fairway. If the wind’s going to take it, bring it round and you should be all right. Shaping round. Shaping round. Yeah, it’s all right. If it keeps going with the slope, it should be right side the fairway. I put it a bit tight to the right hand side. Well, further right in the 101. That’s fine. It’s just you prefer I’d prefer to be leftand side going into the green from there. But it’ll be fine. It’ll be fine. See you down there. Wow. Okay. So, the the slopes kicked it all the way around to the left hand side. This is what I mean. This is what I mean. Stroke index 18. If you’re a visitor and you go for the center of the fairway, you can get caught out with these trees. That’s why I said I want to go right fairway high. And uh I went just a little bit further right of that line actually. But it’s a good job I did. 81. It’s a good job I did cuz I’ve ended up I’ve ended up here just just into the into the left into the left rough. 81 yards. Uh winds definitely helped me significantly here as you can see. Um so if it was playing without the wind, you would be playing this about 75 with the wind. I’m looking at a 65 yard shot here, which is an easy just punch. I’m just going to punch through a 54 and then I’m going to let it just guide. I’m just going to let it guide off the slope. It’s going to I’m going to go way right here. By the way, you’re going to say, “What the hell?” If you haven’t seen Crook before, you’re going to say, “Why are you doing this, John?” I’m I’m going to tell you exactly why. That’s going to um that’s going to shape big off that slope. It’s on the left hand side of the pin, which is actually not too bad to be honest. The worst place is the right hand side. It’s really tough on the right hand side. They put it to the left. It is tight that it can drop off. But as long as I hit it right, I mean, if that’s if that’s middle middle green, like in terms of the depth of in terms of the width of the green, if it’s middle of the green, I’m happy because you don’t want to drop off on that left hand side. It’s shocking down there. You don’t want to know about it. So, my line’s probably going to be that tree that I’m pointing at with my club. that small evergreen tree plate is about 65. Punch it, knock it down, and let the slope manipulate and try and get me birdie put that way. If that makes sense. Oh, that’s too far. Right. It’s going to come round though. It’ll It’ll end up on the green. Yeah. Yeah, there it is. It’s What did I tell you? What did I tell you? That’s ended up It’s going to end up all right. That That’s not bad at all. I did say I did say, “Look, I’m going to have to go way right here. It’s going to kick it all the way around.” See, if you’re a visitor there and you go for the center of the green, knackered. You’re knackered. You’ve got no chance of uh the green. But I think I’ve done okay there. Save me put hopefully. And that’s your other problem. You can’t you can’t stop it off the slope. So, I’ve got a tricky downhill putt here left to right. You’re probably thinking, how is there so much crap going on in his head here? But I’m sorry to say this. It’s the same as Wilton. It’s it’s it’s it’s the same as all these courses, concert, all these places. You’ve got to have crap in your head. If you don’t have crap working out the odds in your head like this, you’re going to end up bothered. So that’s the that’s that’s actually not too bad. You can go as far right as you want, but you can’t go left cuz you you’ll end up dropping off. So I’m on the green. I’m I’m putting for for birdie. That’s that’s great. You know, stroke index 18. I mean, don’t kid yourself. This ain’t stroke index 18. Not in my book anyway. Uh left to right going down the slope. Okay. Big one. It’s going to be a big turn of this. Come around. I mean, you saw how much it kicked down that slope and it came all the way around. The low of averages are telling you everything’s going to go this way and it just hasn’t right Jesus. The worst bit about it was that I hit the put the the two puts that I hit with two puts on exactly where I wanted to put it. So I can’t even can’t even have a go at myself and say they were bad putts cuz they weren’t. They just it’s it’s just stroke index 18. I mean now where let’s let’s let’s be real about this. It’s it’s not 160 right long drop for obvious reasons. Um let’s see where the wind’s going here. It’s uh it’s drifting across to the left hand side. Um this is another one. You don’t want to be off to the back. You really don’t want to be off to the back here. uh bunker to the right of whatever I remember of it. Yeah, there’s a bunker short right and apart from that it’s just natural hazards. So, an easy seven. I’m in between a seven and an eight. I think I’m going to go seven. Hold on. It’s eight and it’s just going to be probably a a low driller actually cuz I I don’t want the wind to affect this too much. I don’t want to push it too far cuz it it can knock this off the back. You don’t want to be short because you can obviously see the ghost bushes and everything. But to clear that’s about 120. It’s it’s not it’s not really a factor for me. Um but the back is back’s a worry. Um right. So about pelt swing 95% drilling it drilling it center and if the wind brings it round cuz it’s drifting across the wind it’s going right it’s helping in right and that’s that’s just the way the crooy come. You’re just going to have to accept it. Just hit it in the middle of the green. which I’ve done. Please say that’s held. Please say that’s held. My eyesight’s not good enough to say it. I’ll say it when I get down there, but please say that’s held. I’ve drilled it to try and stop stop the wind cuz I you know what I mean? I don’t know if it was the best thing to do. I didn’t want it to to to race straight up in the air because if it goes up in the air, it’ll just push on and on and it might go to the back. So, I’ve tried to sort of lynxy drill it and and we’ll see the results. See you down for me second. I’ll just put it here. It’s ended up in a real weird spot. Uh I thought I went center green. Uh it’s Well, I said the wind was blowing right across to the right hand side, haven’t I? It’s obvious what’s happened. The wind’s just dragged it across. I ain’t got me chip master. So, and to be fair, the conditions are good enough that I don’t need it, but um it’s not too far this one 2 3 4 5 6. I’m only 7 yards away from the hole. It’s not It’s nothing significant. Um so, yeah, it’s obvious what’s happened. It’s it’s the winds just took it right across. I knew I got me playing distance right with the eight iron. I says, “Well, it cannot have gone off to the back. That’s impossible. Uh, and it’s just over here. So, I must have just crept over the bunker, right? Um, got to try and hold this. That’s all I can do with this. Uh, back foot store. Back foot store. That’s it. Ah, overdid it. I overdid it. It was only seven yards. It came out hot. Uh I’ve got a rough idea of the line anyway. Ah, I did try and hold it, by the way. Wasn’t too far off. So, it looks like the right edge of this for par. Yeah, it came out a little bit hot there. I wasn’t I wasn’t wasn’t a a fan of that one. Just on the right. Come on. No, no, no. That’s that’s that’s a bad putt. That was a bad putt. I’ll um God. Ah, Borgie. That was a bad put, son. That was a bad putt. That was a push. I tried to haul it. I went for the back foot restore instead of the front foot restore to land it softer. I wanted it to roll up so I could haul it, but uh I just overdid it a little bit. Uh 317 index 14. This one is playing into the wind, so it’s it’s not as easy as you think. The wind is going to be in my face and over to the right hand side again. Um it’s really left hand side of the fairway. A bit of rain forecast, but uh it’ll just be drizzle hopefully. There’s nothing nothing really severe until tonight. So hopefully this this will just stay off and it’ll just be a little bit of drizzle. Right, I’m going to go a Yeah, it’s directing into my face again. The wind’s going to uh going to be a big factor here. 317. It’s probably playing another 60 yards longer. So 3 370 380. This is going to be playing left side fairway. You can go straight over them trees. Actually, there’s nothing stopping you from going straight over them trees. Really, it is rough, but you know what I mean. You’re you’re better there than being off to the right hand side. But I’m going to try and go left side fairway and take it from there, which I’ve done. Um, yeah, you can go straight over them trees. You can go if you if if you’re a long enough driver of the ball, you can go straight over them trees. It will be rough. There is a bunker on the pre on the is it the third hole to the left. But if you can go straight over that direct line of that right the the furthest right side tree it’s fine. You’re absolutely fine. And sometimes it even kicks onto the fairway. See it for me second. Yeah. You know there’s some courses where you can hit good drive and your approach shots. You can get away with it. You can’t hear a crook. It’s just too hard. It’s just too hard. It’s too difficult. It’s too many factors that are going to uh going to get involved here. Right. Well, we’re 101 yards away, but the wind’s directly into me face. Pin to the back. 111. Um playing probably 125 n iron going in. I need to be going left hand side again. Left side of the green. Although central central right. I’ve got to be going left hand side and kicking this one round. Otherwise, you just, you know, irrelevant. It’s irrelevant going on the right hand side because you’ll just spray it over to the right hand side down that slope and you boo it. So, uh, left side manipulating it round. Little punchy shot. Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Yeah. Okay. No, that’s that’s rubbish. It’s a bit damp there to be honest. But that’s a shot. I’m going to have another go at that. That That’s a shot of a bloke who really shouldn’t be playing golf. I mean, that that was poor. That was a poor shot. But I’ve had a great drive to get there. That’s That’s poor from there. Really was. That’s more the shot I was after. That’s more the shot I was after. Yeah, that’s a good one. Frustrating. It’s frustrating cuz I know I know it’s hard enough as it is crook without duffing shots up like that. You’ve had a great drive to get it to the left side of the fairway. perfect position and then you duff it like that. It’s just you just you just think to yourself, what what is the point? What is the point? I’ve done all that graft to get on the fairway, hit a great drive, and I’ve just duffed it up there. Never mind. See you down there. Yeah, there’s no excuses really apart from it was a bit damp and maybe I just hit the the the ground before the ball a little bit. Uh 30. Let’s say 30. Yeah, 30 yards. Okay. So, it’s 30 yards. Playing about 35. I’ve got to get this one near. The other one will be spot on. You know, that’s that’s the horrible thing. I’ll walk up there. I’ll see provisional and I’ll just go, “Oh, you absolute duffer.” That’s what’s going to happen here. Uh in my face. It’s hard enough, you see, with wind in your face. 320 played about 360 yards. That That’s hard enough as it is. It doesn’t You don’t You don’t have to make it harder for yourself by douffing it up like this. Right. 35 gripping stance. Open up a little bit. Take it from there. It’s gone straighter than I thought it was going to I thought it was going to kick that way. It hasn’t It hasn’t kicked with the slope. I don’t think it’ll be a putt. I just don’t think it’s going to be stiff. I think we’re going to have about a 12 footer there. See you for it. And that is me point. It’s ran over. Uh that one that one was just off the actually to the uh wasn’t in the roof, but it was a couple Well, rather than explain it, it was about there. That’s where it was. But to be fair, I’ve played this course about a half a dozen times. So you Well, I would say I would say about half a dozen times uh in these conditions, off summer conditions. So you’d think I’d learn by now, but obviously not. See for the next. Right. This is the first par five 4 and Well, it says 85 on the watch. So, it’ll it’ll be roughly that. It says four Yeah. 445 on the plaques. It’s called uh Fosters Folly. Fosters Folly. And that’s another thing I do like clubs that name the holes as well. It gives them a bit character and everything. Now, uh hopefully the wind’s helping here and it it’ll help us get it down there. This this might be drivable in two. Actually, this might well be drivable in two, but I’ve got to get it. I’ve got to get it center right fairway. If you go where that evergreen tree is to the right, that’s too far. Your line your line to me has always been that little tree there. See the group of evergreen trees, three evergreen trees to the right hand side. It’s always been there. And then it just kicks off the slope and you can get it left side of the fairway. And there is a bunker. There’ll be a bunker. I don’t know if it’s, you see, it’s not on the map. It’s not on the map because it’s it’s a new addition to stop the big hitters for going to the green and two to make them think. But it is there and it is a factor. So hopefully I can get a good enough drive down there and hopefully I can go at the green and two here. I’m hoping anyway. Yeah, that’s the line. Yeah, that’s a good line. That, son. That’s good. That’s good. I lost me balance a little bit because I’ve I’ve really tried to launch into it, but that that that’s a good line. That that’s that’s exactly the line I wanted. That little sort of orange tree on the right right fairway line. Spot on. That should kick down nicely. It should be on the fairway. I should be able to have some sort of shot at the green there. Right here I am. I took a big kick on the left side left side of the fairway. Uh off off the left side of the fairway and here in the rough now. I’m I’m shocked at this. Um I’m still 240 away. Uh, so I haven’t gone as far as as I thought. I can see the flag stick. It’s on the left hand side there, but it’s downhill. I know there’s a bunker there. Don’t worry. Don’t worry. I’m not back I’m not backing out of this shot. I’m just I’m just having to think about my playing distance cuz if if that’s too It’s 237 to the middle, but I reckon that’s plane about 215. I reckon if I can get it to the right hand side I can’t go left. I can’t go direct. It’ll kick off to the left. There’s a bunker down there. I know at some point there’s a bunker there stopping me from going for the green. So, uh maybe just to the right of the left of that tree, the hybrid. The wind’s going off in this direction, I think. Yeah, it’s helping. But for the wind helping, it hasn’t really gone that far and I thought I hit it really well. Right, I’m going to go for me hybrid. I’ve worked it all out what I’m doing. I think this can get me to the green, you know. I really think this is going to get me to the green if I can hit the line just to the left of that tree on the right side that you can see there. That sort of uh yellowy I don’t know what you would call it sort of tree and it just hits the right line with a little cut and it runs down. I think I’ve got this. I’m just I’m I forgot if it encroaches how far the bunker there’s a bunker on the left hand side obviously. I don’t know how far it encroaches across though. That’s the only problem. Well, if it encroaches and your ball goes in. So, your ball goes in. You’ve just got to accept it for what it is. You can’t go your four and a half wood cuz you’ll end up at the back and it’ll be bugged. Right. That’s what I’m doing. It’s not the best of lies, but if I can get a good enough strike on this, it should be okay. Ah, it’s it’s come out poppy. It’s all right. It’s just come out poppy. It’ll not It’ll not reach the green. It was uh It’s spongy rough here at Crook as well. It’s not like your normal if if you get sometimes you get it where it’s all right where it’s sort of like like there. And then sometimes you get it here where it’s it’s it’s like a big spongy patch and it’ll pop up on you. And that’s what’s happened there. It’s just popped up on me. It’s the right line. It’s where the tree is. It’ll gather down. I just don’t think I’m going to be on the green. I’ll have a little wedge on for me for me birdie put. Yeah, here’s the bunker here. I’m I’m just short of it. I knew there was a bunker at some point. Mine just popped out. So, you know, it wasn’t a good solid strike even to reach it. Um but yeah, about 50 yards away 55 house is going to be the line and running it down 50 58°. Uh in normal conditions, this shouldn’t be a problem, but the wind is going over that way and it’s helping slightly. So 55. I want to play this about 45. Let it run down. It’s I think I I think it’s a two-tiered green. I think that that’s that’s that’s the top tier and then it goes down into into a ball into the bottom tier. So that’s another factor I’ve got to put in here. But really, it’s it’s a simple enough shot, isn’t it? It shouldn’t really be any complications. It’s just hitting that slope, letting it run down, make sure it gets to the bottom tier, let it run down, and get me birdie chance that way. Shouldn’t be too complicated. Shouldn’t be too complicated. Right. So, hinge and hold about 45. Right. Over to the right side where that building is now. Run down. That’s it. Run down off the tier. That’s it. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. I think my playing distance is just about right. I think everything’s in order. Uh so yeah, but bear that in mind. Um that on the board, if you play here, it says on the board that there isn’t a bunker. There is a bunker that they put it here, I think, was it last year? And it’s to to to stop the big hitters. Well, not stop the people think about going for the green and two. It doesn’t stop someone like me. I’m I’m not interested. If if I think I can go for two, I’ll just go for it in two. And if I end up in it, I end up in it. But it’s a good riskreward hole now with that bunker there. It’s it’s, you know, and then if you hit it too far, you’re obviously going to the back of the green. The two tiered green’s hard to stop. But I think I’ve I’ve done really well there. Really, really good. It’s like Phil says, you don’t have to be a great putter if you put it within 3T from 3T. It’s your percentages are so much more in your favor for 3T than they are 6 foot. Uh, this one is straight ahead, then it goes round to the left and everything. So, really, you’re just you’re just aiming for the center fairway. And, um, we’ll take it from there. We’ll take it from there, really. Um, what’s the wind doing? Going to the right hand side. So, center fairway. And it might straighten out my cut and then that might be good. It might be good for the for a route in. I mean, it’s it’s it’s a little bit more open this hole, but it’s still a bloody long way and it’s up the hill, so it does play longer as well. The left hand side over here of the fairway is very damp and wet. But, uh nothing they can do about the clay turf. It’s it’s just the way it is. Um but everywhere else on the course so far the conditions been pretty pretty decent. So you’re down for me third. All right. Okay. Um put it’s a put, isn’t it? It’s a put. Uh looks right to left initially. Looks a still they’re still doing works on that house, you know. Is that it? It must have been You know what I think’s happened there? Cuz that’s been like that for a couple of year. this sort of that story building. I think probably what’s happened there is they’ve built they’ve they’ve built it on land they haven’t had permission to build on. Although they’re in the dispute with the golf club and it’s just been left like that cuz that’s been there for two year like that. It’s uh and they haven’t made any progress with it really. I think that’s what’s happened. They’ll be in dispute with the golf club or something about the land and that’s what’s happened. rights of way and everything. So, this is why this is stroke index one, number 12. It’s it’s uh it’s it’s a hard one. This a crook. It really is difficult. It’s not it’s not simple. Trees to the right, trees to the left. You just need a good solid solid low trajectory flat towards the green. That’s what you need here. Yeah, like that. That’s what you need. Fine. Fine. Just to the left. And even if you do get it down on the fairway, look what look what you’re you’re faced with. Massive slope on the right, massive slope to the left. You’ve got to hit the green or you’re dead meat. It’s as simple as that. It’s a bloody hard hole. This this was definitely been one of my 18 holes. Um wind helping at 124 easy pitching wedge. I would definitely um it would be interesting actually if you asked me what 18 holes would you have in the out of all the northeast courses what holes would you pick? It would be interesting. And I would have to have a good think about it. Brans, that’s par three, by the way. That’s got to be in there. That’s bloody ridiculous. That’s uh that’s definitely definitely one of the par 3s, right? Um pitching wedge 124 playing about 115. I’ve got to go middle left green and let it manipulate off the slope. I’ve tugged it right. It’s got it’s collection area. Damn it. Oh, that that that’s again. I’ve done all the hard work getting the drive there and I mess it up there. That’s it. That’s it. Oh, you big numpy. I mean I I grafted me backside off to get to that center right fairway and it chuck it away like that. That’s just uh it wasn’t it wasn’t from a lack of try and it was just a bad shot. That’s all. It’s just it it bloody annoys you when you get into such a good position like that and you just you just throw it away, you know? It’s it’s it’s not right. You shouldn’t you should never do that. If you hit your even if you hit a great drive down the middle of the fairway, it’s a very tight narrow. This this will probably be one of me 18 holes as well cuz it’s bloody hard. Um right side then going right hand side. punch it where that lightly colored tree is. Hopefully the slope will guide it round. It won’t kick off right and hopefully I I’ll get me birdie chance that way. But hard just hard hard hole, right? That’s That’s just about right. That’s just about right. That’s just about the right line. Uh if it kicks off right into that collection area on the right, there’s nothing I can do about it. I’ve hit the spot where I think, right, that’s got off a chance of manipulating round and hopefully get on the green and hopefully have a birdie putt. Hunley very hard course. Wilton, these are the courses that are really really going to push your game. If you’ve got any weakness in any category, these courses are going to expose it. Trust me. these courses, these three courses will expose it. Uh I mean I’m what am I a I would say I’m 7 9 10. I’m 11 over through 13, you know, and I haven’t played bad golf. I’ve There’s a couple of holes that have made me look like a mug. And that par three is a funny one actually cuz I’m I’m wondering if I did slice it off to the left. We’ll have to like again I see I’ll have a look at the footage. But apart from that, I don’t think I’ve I’ve played Mugs golf 11 over through 13. You know what I mean? I’ve played some decent golf. Obviously, we’re in winter time and I’m going against the odds and everything, but 11 over through 13. I haven’t played that bad. I haven’t played that bad. Right. Um just over the right side of the stake, I think. And then that’s it. It runs down the valley this one. It’s about 360. We take it from there. Maybe a bit too far right. You see, you don’t want to go so far right that you get blocked out. you get to the them trees down the bottom, you can get blocked out by them. That’s the um the 16th there. The only thing I can do really is when I get to the clubhouse is I don’t really want to do it, but go to the committee and just say, “Look, there’s three kids on bikes here and they’re going around. They’re using the uh they’re using the greens as like a um a ramp thing for the for the bikes. It’s it’s it’s I don’t want to get them into trouble, but I’ve explained it to them. Look, if a committee man gets you and everything, you’re going to be in bother here, son. But they just don’t listen. They don’t listen. You can’t do anything and you know you there’s nothing out you can do. There’s not you can do. You’ve just got to let them under about on the course. 24 yards. How it’s a decent enough shot. It’s a decent enough shot. I’ve got a got to put. But there’s nothing I can physically do. I’ve said to them, look, uh, if if you don’t get off if you if you don’t get off the greens, I’m going to have to inform the the committee, but they’re they’re just not interested. You’re all right in the surrounding areas. You can go in the fields and everything, but don’t don’t go on the the actual greens and the surrounding areas of the greens and this is this and that, but they’re just not interested. They’re not interested. They’re not going to listen to me cuz there’s nothing I can do. Um, right. Got this put for par, but I’m I’m not going to delete this. I’m I’m going to keep it on because this is what us normal golfers have to put up with. It happens at Wilton and they have the bikes and stuff. uh coming on the property and everything and and it’s it’s the same area. They’re on the tea box now. Um, and it’s it’s just to make you aware, crook, as well that I don’t know if you’ve had problems with kids before coming on the property and stuff, but it’s just just to make you aware. I mean, I don’t I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think they drove anywhere on on the on the on the greens or anything like that. I don’t know where they’ve been, though. I really don’t know where they’ve been, but I don’t think they’ve drove anywhere with the bikes uh on the green. Um, but they’ve certainly been around the fringe area and they’ve certainly um been very near the greens and they’re using they’re using the the hills on the green as like a ramp for the for the bikes to to fly down and it’s Yeah. Anyway, forget about that. It’s it’s it’s it’s not my concern. The only thing I can do is just tell them unfortunately uh can you please uh not not do that on the greens and it’s private property. You’re not really supposed to be on this land. And I just said if a committee guy gets you, you’re going to be in bother. But nothing else I can do about it. I’ve I haven’t I’m a white middle-aged Caucasian British bloke. I’ve got I’ve got no rights. Right. Um stupid thing is that statement is pretty true. up the hill. I’m going to go more to the left hand side. It kicks off to the to the the right here. So, left to right. Uh tear up a bit higher. Get a nice high ball flight. And this is play longer as well. This is another one of these holes that plays longer. Oh, I’ve got to I’ve got to start. Let’s finish off par. That would be lovely. Come on. Yeah, that’s that’s good. That’s up there. That’s good. That’s left side fairway. That’s not a bother. It should kick with the slope. Should put me center right fairway. That shouldn’t be a bother up there. Uh, something’s just niggling me to go for a nine because I I think this runs off to the back, you know. I think it goes downhill and runs off to the back. Right. That That shouldn’t be any problems. I think that’s a good shot. Well, I’m presuming it’s a good shot. Um hopefully it is a little bit downhill once you get up to the green and it kicks on for us. It’s quite it’s quite a decent. You’ve got all the farmers fields, the hills. It’s uh it’s it’s quite it’s quite decent. It’s quite a decent view here at Crook. Right. Um number 17. This is uh the par the par five. I’ve got a feeling. I’ve got a feeling this is going to be into wind. It is. It’s into wind to the left hand side. 470. It’s only 470 yards this. Well, according to the plaque, it is. Yeah. 470 par five stroke index 17. It ain’t Well, it’s simple enough if if if you got decent conditions, but when the wind’s in your face and to the left, it ain’t that simple. So, uh, right side of the fairway, you don’t want to be too far, right? There’s a wall there. Remember that. You got your trees over the left hand side. So, you want to just have a nice low drive. Get it up there to the bank. I will take it from there. Really, even if I can’t get there in two, I’m not particularly bothered. As long as I get a birdie putt at this, I’m happy. Yeah, the wind’s took it a little bit left. It’s all right. It’ll probably be in the left roof. It’ll probably be in the left roof, but I think I’m going to be all right. If those of you who know this course will all will know what I’m on about. You go down the hill and right the flag’s right to the front. So from here, hold on a minute. 119. One 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 at 12. on to 119. 130 about 131. Uh 131. We’ve got 131 downhill. I’ll probably just guide down a pitching wedge. I don’t I don’t I don’t see anything else to do here. Just guy down a pitching wedge and it sits down to the lap of the gods. Then what the slope does with it. Uh, you got to be a bit canny and clever here cuz it does go right to left the slope. So, it’s got to kick it that way. So, if the flag’s there, I’m looking at that orangey tree line basically where the sun’s at. Again, that orangey tree line and bumping it down there. Yep, that’s it. And now it’s that it’s just the lap of the gods now. The lap of the gods. I’m hoping it kicks off right to left. I’m hoping it ends up on the green. I don’t think there’s a cat in hell’s chance. That’s if I don’t think there’s a cat in hell’s chance that’s going to be front of the green. I think I’m going to be in the back and it’s going to be a really horrible sloppy downhill putt. And I don’t think I’ve got any chance of stop. I don’t think I’ve got any chance of stopping it. That’s my predictions. Let’s see if I’m right. See you down there for me. For me, fourth. That is interesting. Turns out I was right. It couldn’t be. It’s because I’ve been in that situation before, could it? No. I mean, I knew I mean, this has happened to me few a few times before. You just when the pins at the front, you just can’t you can’t stop it. It’s just absolutely You can see the dip and it just runs up the bank. It’s absolutely impossible. I mean should have been possible with this with these leaves at all. To be fair to Crook, all the areas of the course for leaves have been really good. Actually, apart from this hole, everywhere else has been pretty much spot on. The condition of the green has been mine. I don’t know what the condition of the greens are going to be like after them kids are finished with them, but the condition of the greens have been absolutely immaculate. Uh, that’s going to have to do. It’s just, you know, it’s one of these things. You’ve just got to put up with it. Um, down there, left to right, it’s going to be slick. Ah, the leaves don’t help the situation, but here we go for for a birdie. Move that out the way and all. It’s interfering with me me backstroke a bit. Go on, guide through a No, just knocked all the piss off the leaves as well, didn’t it? I mean, you can’t uh But I can’t mourn. I mean, the condition of the greens have been kept really really well. Just left outside left edge. Yeah, well done. Good par. I can’t I can’t mourn at all. These greens have been very well looked after. They’re solid. you if these were in summer, if this was the middle of summer, you would say these are in really, really good condition. That’s how good they are. No complaints from me. Absolutely great. Uh yeah, Paw, good paw. And Crook, by the way, I mean, it’s it’s been hard work for me today playing in this this wind, this 30 odd mileph wind at times. It’s been hard work. It’s been chilly chill factor. It’s got to be three or four degrees, but I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s back end of October. Look at the condition for the back end of October. Absolutely fantastic. 20 20. What is it? 20 25 count card. But this has been a really really good experience in the winter so far. Crook. Um obviously shoot 80 wasn’t going to happen, but um I think I’ve played reasonable enough considering the conditions I’ve played in. nice scenery, nice views, and it’s a really really tough test, you know. It’s it’s it’s it’s that sort of course. Same as Wilton, same as that. It’s not just about playing ability. It really really tests your golf brain as well. It’s it’s a real hard testing rand as well. Really good, really good test crook. Uh onto the onto the last hole. Here we are. Number 18, last hole. Um, I don’t know what this one is. Is it just called home or something? It is called Westwood Hall. The last last hole. Par 4 335 yds all the way up the hill and it’s playing long again. Every hole is played long, by the way, here at Crook. Every every hole I’m right at the back of the tea box, by the way, where the rough patch is, so not doing any damage. Um, all the way up the hill again. Wind blowing right across interface. Ah, it’s playing well over it’s playing about 400 this difficult difficult difficult. But I’m on 78. Believe it or not, I I knew I hadn’t played terrible. I want 78 and if I can if I can par this or either a five and 83 in these conditions 13 over I’ll take that. I’ve I’ve I’ve had in my mind if I break 85 John you’ve done well son in these conditions and I I I think I think I’ve done okay. I have had a few frustrating moments. I have duffed up a couple of shots. So, I mean that that uh 12th really annoyed me. The 11th’s a weird one. I’ll have to have a look at that one. But, you know, uh overall, I haven’t played terrible. Let’s see if we can get it’s it’s it’s the the top of the uh the roof, the spike bit of the of the clubhouse is the line here. Yeah, that’s okay. That’s okay. Might kick off a little bit left off the slope, but that should be okay. Nice little fairway finder. Just a cut. And that’s all I’ve been doing. No way are you going to with wind like this can you bomb it when it’s nice and calm and it’s a still day. Yes, but you you can’t do this today. You really can’t do it. You’ve just got to really place it in the fairway and then just play it play it as it comes from there. See for me second shot. Wow. Okay. It’s really uh kicked off the slope there. Uh and it’s gone nowhere. 145. Yeah, our courses, you know, we we definitely have half the size fairways of what Americans have. Definitely. You can see with us, we’ve got more precision. Our our games are more designed around precision and using our brains. Whereas Americans, the American courses and stuff when you go to Florida and everything, maybe not California and stuff, it’s a bit different, but certainly those 149, those American courses, the waters and the big bunkers, them type of courses, it’s more designed for distance and target golf. Whereas us, these these these hilly courses are more brains and, you know, it’s um it’s a totally different style of play, isn’t it? It really is. I mean that’s I understand now why if Americans come I mean they used to play better eagles and struggle around. I understand that now cuz they’re not used to that sort of style of play. Whereas uh we are right 149. The winds obviously interface. We know that quite strong six. Punchy six. Can see where the flag is. I’m just going to go just to the right edge of the club out. And it’s been a privilege again playing uh Crook. Uh and it is Crook. You’ve got a really it’s it’s it’s a lovely golf course. It really is. I mean your greens are immaculate condition for October time, end of October. The fairways are fantastic. The greens are fantastic. Your tea box is immaculate. I don’t know how you’ve done it. Your green keepers doing a great job. And it’s a it’s a very hard test. Of course, every time I come here when it’s quiet, I just feel at peace. You know, you’re out in the countryside. You got the course. It feels like you’ve got the course to yourself. You feel as if you’re just you’re out there and it’s it’s it’s a proper proper wool and Portland course. And it’s it’s a real test. You know, you’re there with Wilton and Hund and all that for testing golf. It’s it’s it’s a real hard testing course this. And hopefully, you know, I’m trying I’m trying me best cuz I know you’re out in the sticks and everything and I know you’ll be struggling. You know, it’s a bit like Southmore. I know you’re struggling cuz you’re out in the sticks and everything. And hopefully this video uh people watch it, it gives it a bit exposure and hopefully you get a few more visitors and potentially members and everything. I’m trying me best for you, but like I say, I’m doing it all the work on me own crook. It’s it’s difficult, but you know, you you’ve got a great golf club here and um it it deserves a bit more credit, especially I mean, you’re up in the hills as well, so it’s going to be windy all the time. You really are. You really are a good testing course. Trust me. Um, and you deserve a bit more credit. Definitely. So, I said right edge of the building, didn’t I? Of the club out. Bringing it round. Little punchy shot. Oh, no. Not that far. Right. Ah, that’s over where the first hole is. Got to be honest, a little bit disappointed with that. Got to be honest, just slightly disappointed with that. I was expecting a little bit I was expecting a little bit better than that, but uh I’ll be all right up there. Yeah, I’m a little bit just a little just a little bit disappointed with that one. I thought uh I thought I might have done a bit better than that, but never mind. Um right, excuse me. What have we got? Oh, I cannot see I cannot see a bloody thing, man. It’s that sun. It’s uh reflecting a You know what? From that distance, Booger, it’s it’s just reflecting off me rangefinder, I can’t see a damn thing. Um, pop down a little 48. Then I’ve got these uh Oh, you see me? But it doesn’t matter. It’s just a general round if it moves. I’ve got these acorns all the way around the ball. Right. Uh, maybe about about 30ish, right? Ah, it’s going way over to the left hand side. That’ll do. That’ll do. It’s all right. I mean, it’s a par put, isn’t it? I mean, I could have done a bit better really when I think about if I if I if I concentrated, but it’s all right. Paw put. Yeah, I’m going to put it on two zoom so you can you can see it maybe a bit closer up. There is a bunker here on the left hand side, by the way, but that’s that’s irrelevant. This is a massive green, by the way, to finish off with. Absolute massive green. lengthwise anyway, width ways. If you get it over the bunker, it’s a massive bunker. This it could be it could be one of those greens that’s two tiered. It could double double greens. Actually, that’s a good idea. I have it. Well, what would the other hole be? I don’t know. But anyway, um that reminds me of the one at Darlan. In fact, it’s even bigger than the one at Darling. That this literally could be like St. Andrew Sharing Greens. That’s how big it is. Oh, miles away. I forgot how the depth to this green. I forgot how long it is. It’s bloody absolutely huge. And I don’t know why they’ve made it so big to be honest. Um, right to left then. Go on. Well, that’s a decent foot to finish. It’s a bogie. It’s a bogey, unfortunately. Um, that’s it. Jeez, crook. Oh, I can’t reach the flag and everything, but I wonder what this is. It must be to measure how close you are to the uh the pin or something. Something like that. They always have a really really long pole in there. But no, that that’s crook done. Um4 5. So, it’s been it’s been a longer walk for us. It’s been 4 hours to do that, obviously with the filming and everything, and I’ve had breaks in between the showers. But yeah, that that’s crook done. Um 83 from me, which considering the the conditions, the 30 mph breeze and everything, the 30 mph winds and everything. And uh being chill factor 3 or four, I’ll I’ll take that. I’ll take that. It’s been proper winter golf and I’ve gone off the backs, haven’t I? 41, 42, 83. Yeah, 83 for me, which isn’t too bad actually, all things considered. But no, just to round it up with Crook. Um, today it is the 20 I think it’s the 23rd of October today. Um, it’s been obviously the video will be later on. It’s the course has been in absolutely immaculate condition as far as I’m concerned. The greens are immaculate. I mean, even the 18’s fantastic. The the the I haven’t been in a bunker, I don’t think. But the greens have all been the the bunkers are all raked. They’re the look the same color. They look the same consistency. It might be that’s heavy sand, but the sand is consistent. It’s very, very consistent. I’ve looked everywhere. All the sand’s exactly the same, the same color, the same consistency. Rakes in every bunker. Um fairways are very good. very few divots around the course. The tea boxes just just about immaculate almost in summer condition and I I don’t know during the week how many people play this course at Crook. There mustn’t be many because it’s in immaculate condition. It’s a hard test in Mulland Parkland golf course. 25 quid 6,000 y 70 but it plays a hell of a lot longer than that mind especially when the wind was like this in freezing cold conditions. Um, and it’s just a it’s just a very challenging, interesting mulland partland course. That’s what it is. It’s just it’s it’s up there with with the sort of style of play of Hunley and Wilton. It’s it’s right up there. And this course will test people far better than me. Um, it’ll it’ll test lower handicappers. It’ll test a lot better better golfers than me, let me tell you. Um, and obviously it’s out in the sticks, I know. But if you’re in the Middlesborough area or the Stockton area or even the Durham area, I know it’s a bit of a hiking, but you haven’t played this course, come and give it a go. Come and give it a go. You know that the it looks as if they need the support and everything, Crook. Give it a go. I’ve I’ve had this entire course to myself just about. I’ve seen two people a two ball and apart from that, nobody else on this course. This has literally been like my own private club today. literally for 25 quid. Uh so during the week if you’re free, come and give it a go. Um see for yourself how difficult it is cuz it really is it it really is a a good course. And like I say, I’m really trying crook to to try and get you people at this club because I know I know um you’re struggling a bit and I know with the pro shop it’s shut all the time. Now that’s a sign by the way when the pro shop’s shut 24/7 that that a club’s struggling. and it shouldn’t be struggling. Crook shouldn’t be struggling. It’s a it’s it’s a great it’s a great course. Um the guy, the few times I’ve seen the guy, I I forgot his name now, but he’s he’s salt of the earth. He’s a great guy. Got us booked in. Um you know, the the the decent it’s decent enough here. Um and uh good practice facility. You got a little chipping area there. You’ve got your net. You’ve got um your putting greens. two putting greens either side. It’s just a great facility. So, like I say, Crook, I’m really trying to help you out here, but I can’t do all the work by myself. I I I need I need some help. I need help from others to come and support your club as well. You can’t just I can’t just, you know, keep doing these videos and nobody shows up to your club. I’m I’m trying me best. And hopefully hopefully you’ll get a bit more help and support and everything cuz it is a it is a great course. And yeah, so this is John Predator Golf channel.
