Tiger Woods is poised to make his comeback to competitive golf for the first time in a spectacular showdown against Rory McIlroy for TGL’s return. Woods tore his achilles in March, sidelining him from the Masters and virtually everything afterward.
The 15-time major champion emerged in September and was spotted striking balls in an encouraging injury progress report. ESPN has now revealed the lineup for TGL’s Season 2, confirming he will go head-to-head with McIlroy on March 1.
McIlroy and Woods are both co-creators of TGL, and will clash in TGL’s inaugural primetime Sunday evening contest following the wrap-up of the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic. Meanwhile, Woods has been overlooked by Brandel Chamblee as he named his picks for US Ryder Cup captain in 2027.

In the show, McIlroy competes for Boston Common Golf while Woods plays for Jupiter Links.
The network premiere on ABC will serve as a rematch of last season’s exciting championship between Atlanta Drive GC and second-place New York Golf Club, where both championship contests were decided by just one point, reports the Mirror US.

Mike McCarley, a Founder and CEO of TMRW Sports and TGL states that it “returns for Season 2 with an elevated experience for fans at SoFi Center and those watching at home.
“We worked with our partner at ESPN on an enhanced schedule for our second season that includes TGL’s broadcast network debut on ABC,” he said.
In the fourth contest of the season, Woods and Jupiter Links will take on Season 1 second-place finishers New York Golf Club. Last season, New York mounted an amazing turnaround as they secured a playoff spot and advanced to the Championship after beginning with two defeats.

New York’s lineup includes Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele, and Matt Fitzpatrick, and they’ll be joined by Max Homa, Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner alongside Woods.
Last season, New York outshone Jupiter to clinch their first-ever victory after changing their intro music and ultimately triumphing with a 10-3 score. Woods, Kisner, and Kim had a tough time getting started.
TGL boasts six teams comprised of top PGA Tour players and features a 15-match regular season that includes seven matches in nine days, accounting for nearly half of the regular season.
The top four teams will advance to the TGL playoffs, culminating in a best-of-three Finals on Monday, March 23.
ESPN’s chief, Rosalyn Durant, praised TGL, stating it “delivered everything we had hoped for in its first season: an innovative new sports product, good competition among the stars of the PGA Tour and a strong audience.”
The season is set to run from December 28 to March 3, with the top teams moving on to the playoffs at the end of March. Throughout the season, matches will be broadcast in the U.S. on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and the ESPN App.
