MOBILE, Ala.- With darkness setting in and unfavorable weather expected for tomorrow’s final round, round three of the Steelwood Collegiate began immediately after the completion of round two, and play has been suspended Saturday evening.

Heading into the third and final round, the Deacs are tied for fifth place and off to a solid start going five-under through holes 4-6, and look to rise up the leaderboard.

The Deacs started strong in round one with a team score of 281 (-7), carding the lowest round of the morning.

Junior Nicholas Prieto has carded two under-par rounds for the Deacs, nearly going bogey free in his four-under opening round. Prieto is currently three strokes off the individual lead, and is in search of his second individual title as a Demon Deacon.

Junior Kyle Haas and freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez, who is playing as an individual, are both sitting inside the top-20. Haas is three-under par while Rodriguez is two-under par heading into the final round.

Because of darkness and forecasted weather for tomorrow’s final round, play has continued straight into round three of the Steelwood Collegiate following round two. The final round will resume Tuesday morning with a 9:00 a.m. ET shotgun start.

From Coach Haas:

“I know the guys are disappointed. We hope we get to play tomorrow, but it’s looking like some bad weather is coming. Our team led after the morning round, but did not come to play in the afternoon. It’s hard to be upset knowing the fall we’ve had, but I know they expect better of themselves. We’ve already started our third round here and will probably play about 40 holes today, which is a lot of golf, so maybe we’ll do some good things here right at the end. We are off to a good start in our last round, so now we just have to hope we get to play tomorrow. Always good lessons to learn about being ready to play. Go Deacs!”
