Sampson Zheng set up a fascinating final-round contest in the US$2 million International Series Philippines with home hero Miguel Tabuena and the in-form Sarit Suwannarut after a sensational 10-under par 62 third round on Saturday.
Thailand’s Sarit (69), a two-time International Series winner, had started the day four shots ahead of Tabuena and Kazuki Higa, but he was caught up on the moving day by the fast-charging Zheng, and Tabuena (65), who made two eagles during the round.
The leading trio was one ahead of Japan’s Yosuke Asaji (65), while South Africa’s LIV Golf star Dean Burmester (65) and another in-form star Kazuki Higa (68) were tied fifth at 14-under. India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar (67) made a bogey on his closing hole but advanced to solo seventh place at 13-under, one ahead of Australia’s Marc Leishman (65).
China’s 24-year-old Zheng rode a hot putter and jumped into contention with a round that featured eight birdies and an eagle on the par-four eighth hole. The round included four straight birdies from the 14th to 17th holes, followed by a crucial par save on his final hole where he two-putted from 45 feet.

First time the Asian Tour International Series has ever made birth in the Philippines. And what a week it’s been already. It’s a pass 72 layout designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. just a touch over 7,300 yds. Greens running as they have been for most of the week at just around 10 and a half on the stamp meter. Couple more clouds in the sky today, but doing little to abate the ferocious heat. We’re in the mid to low30s. So, what’s happened already this Saturday morning? Well, let’s get you up to speed. Dustin Johnson a little disappointed after a round of 73 yesterday, but the twotime major champion is certainly making moves this afternoon. A lovely second into the par five 10th. He’s eight under for the tournament now. his fellow player on the live golf league, Mark Leechman. An excellent T-shot here at the par 317 setting up the fifth birdie of the day. Leash at 10 under and twice the winner this year. Kazuki Higa looking for his first international series victory here at the 200yd par three. Great putt by Higa off to a fast start, moving up to 11 under. And the man with the most support in this event, Philippines, Miguel Tabua exciting the crowd early. A great opening hole, birdie. Then at the 570 yd par, 53rd, hit a fabulous second shot onto the screen. And Miguel Tabua moving up to 13 under par. The man who led after round one, leading by four as he enters round three. How will he fare today? a par in his opening hole here on the par three second. Another magnificent iron shot which led to a birdie two been playing fabulous golf over the course of the last two weeks. This was his birdie on the very next hole the par five third and Suanaroo two under for his round already and moves to 16 under par for the tournament. Yeah, that overnight lead as Dom mentioned was four, but Miguel Tab Buena’s fast start is cut into that. How about the rounds of Wanosichan and Leashman moving up inside the top five with plenty of birdies on the card and a couple of holes still to play. Why settle for birdies if you can make it? Eagle Samson Zen takes it to 11 under par. He’s four under for day three. A third shot for Gaganji Buller at this par five. Already two under for his round. That’ll be three under. Nice start by Gaganji. Oh dear. Couple of problems for Wana here. We’re being told his second shot found the penalty area. Now playing his fourth at 13. No, what a fourth it is. That’s one way to save P. This holds a scoring opportunity, but you have to find the fairway. Yeah, 273 to carry that bunker over the hazard. That’s not an issue unless you do this. This is right. Mister 32 of his last three. Make that three of the last four. And the big South African making his presence fell. He’s now within five. Patrick Reed even par on his run with two birdies and two bogeies. Gets to under par. Samson Zang birdie attempt at the 11th. Well done Samson. All right. So he’ll move into a share of second with Miguel Tavina. Oh, brilliant chop. Width in your swing gives you time. And if you feel like you have time in your swing, it’s so liberating. And on the final hole, all the birdies unleashed today for Mark Leeman. You’ve been working on that one all morning, Anthony. Great lag there for Leash. Not going to end with a fabulous finish. But that’s a 65 that propels him right into the title picture. How far back is that going to be by day’s end? This will be the second par five in a row where he had his heart in his mouth. Rachel certainly is. So have I. Great hands. Just little chip and run. Burmaser at the 13th. I must have hooked it wildly off the tea. didn’t bother him any. Wonderful second. Now here at the 14th, generous hole location. Plenty of space around the hole. Swan it for an eagle. This one outside potential for it again. It’s very shiny. downgrain very straight the first half and then starts turning right the rest of the way to the hole. From that distance, not too bad at all. Read it beautifully there. Kazuki Higa and longtime friend in Caddy Kandasan. They’ve been a championship winning pair for a number of years. I love the leg action of this fella. It’s almost like a suspension of a car. He sort of sits at the There you go at the start of the down swing. Great rhythm. Yeah. Played in his first major championship this year at the open at Port Rush. Just trying to get a little momentum going. Suk Asaji birdies at 8 and 10. This is for another at 11. And now Asagi gets to 11 under par. Feels like it’s a little bit down green way here. A little bit up grain in the middle portion and back down grain. Oh, now he’s just two back, seven under for his round. Just a slight uphill putt here for Burmeister just in that middle portion. Then flattens out. Great putt, Dean. Burmeister with that birdie takes him six under for his round and into a share of third with Miguel Tabo. The cream is rising to the top. Basuk Asaji at 12. Oh, it’s unorthodox, but it works. Another flag hunter for Assaji. 101 to the hall. Yeah, I just have a sneaky feeling he and Miguel are going to start making a move now. This has potential just right of it. Oh, what a good kick. That’s an excellent shot. Left to righter here using aim point. So calm. Love his demeanor currently. Man in control. Samson Zen takes it to 15 under. Well, the birdie putts are not dropping. How do you rectify that? Well, stiff it. thing climbed the club face early. Very loud sound. Oh, it’s Come on. It’s getting better. Not a tough butt. Is downhill a little fast. Turning left the whole way. I’m still in disbelief. This thing stopped on that down slope. And the roars return. Sabuina finally with another birdie and it’s one he very much needed. Sitting down in the thick Bermuda almost needs to play it like a bunker shot. Lots of loft, lots of speed, all down grain when it lands. Don’t give the hole away. Little breeze on his back. He’s had to reset. Put’s been on fire today. Oh, and it stays hot for Samson Z. He’s within one of Situana. It’s only a par for Max Rutliff. This would be a disappointing way to end the round. Ah, he makes it. It’s a swing to me that looks like he’s got so much feel. You see that waggle before he hits it? Just working out how to get the club back to impact. Oh, this could be really good. Nice shot. Great job. It is pretty good. Pretty significant ups slope there. Tendency here is to bounce it too hard through that fringe. Curious shot selection from Sarit. People back in the clubhouse hear that he’s making a charge. They all might venture out to the 15th, 16th, and 17th holes. Now, let’s see if he can make this. Yes, he can. Oh, yes, he can. Back-to- back birdies for Miguel Tabuina. Takes the Filipino to 15 under. for Stamson right to left. Talk about two shot swings. Samson Zang with his fourth birdie in a row now moves into the outright lead at 17 under par. Dead center. What a response to that bogey. And more importantly, it takes the tie back into a share of the lead with Samson Zang. Sublime speed control from Samson Zen. No stranger to big moments and big opportunities. That’s a round of 62 for Samson on Saturday. This will get Asgi up to 14 under. And he has managed to do it. Wow. What a back nine. Five under par with the amount of wind that’s helping and the amount of club head speed this guy generates. Oh, he gave it a mighty smack. The line is pretty good. Just turning slightly left of the hole. made two eagles in his round of 65 yesterday. Miguel Tuino. Boy, can he hold some putts. The Suk Asaji with a seventh birdie. This for his second eagle of the round. and to make it a three-way tie at the top at 17 under. They’ve heard the call. Miguel Tabua gets to 17 under par. How about that from Miguel? One of many who could be a party pooper on the Taboina parade. Asi showing a great deal of fight on this back nine. He’ll have that for an inward half of 29. Didn’t make it easy on himself, but he’s in for four. He’ll take a share of the lead into the final round in international series Philippines. Well played Miguel Tabuino. It’s going to come from that uh last two groups. And what’s the winning score going to be? I think 21 under would be a pretty good score. Uh might even be a little bit deeper than that. Thanks for watching the Asian Tour on YouTube. Don’t forget to like and subscribe.

I guess I’m here too soon to know the timestamps for Wesley? I will be on the lookout for the newsletter. 🙂
Will the final round be on TV?
No Wesley… He's not in contention so I get it, but at the same time I don't get it because this video is posted on youtube and the people watching youtube highlights are also likely to be youtube golf followers as well.
Go go go Miguel! WTG! Make the homeland proud!
TV coverage of this is pitiful. There is a lot of money at stake and three major winners playing in it and yet it is barely being screened on any channel. Meanwhile a minor regular Asian tour event (Indonesia) , a dull DP event in Korrea and various women's stuff is clogging up the airwaves.
no highlights for current OOM leader?
Where is this being aired ??
