WILMINGTON, N.C. (SMU) – SMU women’s golf sits in third place after round two of the Landfall Tradition at Country Club of Landfall’s Pete Dye Course.

“Great round today, especially considering we were a player down,” said head coach Lauren Mason. “Our ladies knew their scores counted from the moment they teed off — with Uma out sick, there was no room for error, and they stepped up.”

“Excited to see what we can accomplish tomorrow. We’ve got a great pairing and we’re right where we need to be going into the final round.”

SMU came into the day with a narrow one-shot lead over North Carolina and Kentucky. Playing without a dropped low score in round two, the Mustangs shot one over on the day to move into third. SMU remains within striking distance (four strokes) of the top spot and are one shot back of second place UCF. The Mustangs trail two top 25 teams and lead 10 other top 50 programs at the tournament.

Emily Odwin surged into the top three with a strong round on Saturday. Odwin played bogey free on the day to move up 19 spots. A birdie on the final hole brought Odwin to 70 for the day.
Celine Chen parred her first 15 holes on the day before a bogey-par-birdie finish. She shot a 72 to move into seventh place. Chen will be in search of her fifth top 10 finish of her collegiate career.

Grace Jin followed up an under par score on day one with a 74 in round two. She sits in a tie for 17th.  Mackenzie Lee shot one over for the second straight day to hold a share of 22nd.

The Mustangs will be in search of their first tournament title of the season on Sunday.  The Mustangs will be paired alongside golfers from North Carolina and UCF and tee off with a 7:45 a.m. ET / 6:45 a.m. CT.
