Scottie Scheffler of Team United States reacts on the second green during the Friday morning foursomes matches of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Black Course at Bethpage State Park Golf Course on September 26.
Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 season has reached unprecedented heights. The world number one claimed six victories on the PGA Tour, including two major titles (the PGA Championship and The Open), and continues to write his name among golf’s elite.
Beyond the fairways he’s extended his dominance into new territory, showing that his competitive edge isn’t restricted to golf clubs and greens. He helped his Texas Lone Stars team win the season-ending Sport Fishing Championship in Cabo San Lucas, landing a decisive blue marlin in the final 90 minutes.
What Is the Sport Fishing Championship?
While it might sound like an offseason hobby, the Sport Fishing Championship has evolved into one of the most intriguing new ventures in competitive sports. Founded in 2022, the league is the first unified offshore fishing circuit, designed to turn big-game fishing into a professional, team-based competition. The format combines elements of traditional tournament fishing with the drama and storytelling of major sports leagues–complete with live broadcasts, scoring systems, and star-powered ownership groups.
The SFC hosts events across some of the most renowned saltwater destinations in the world–from Louisiana and the Florida Keys to the Dominican Republic and Cabo San Lucas. Teams compete to catch high-value species such as blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, and tuna, with a points-based leaderboard determining standings over the course of the season. Every catch is verified in real time, streamed to fans online, and scored based on size, species, and conservation compliance.
Beyond the competition, the SFC has become a magnet for athletes and investors from across the sports world. Its ownership roster reads like an all-star list: NFL legends Randy Moss and Raheem Mostert, LIV Golf pros Talor Gooch and Harold Varner III, and now Scheffler, who bought full ownership of the Texas Lone Stars team in 2024. The combination of adrenaline, strategy, and sport storytelling has helped the SFC find its niche among fans who crave both the thrill of competition and the serenity of open water.
According to GolfMagic, the SFC “will expand from 14 to 16 teams next season.”
Off the Course, Scheffler Proves Winning Is a Habit
For Scheffler, the win carried extra meaning. It symbolized more than competition; it marked his growing presence in the expanding world of celebrity sports ownership. While most fans only picture Scheffler stalking fairways in his signature calm, calculated rhythm, his off-course ventures show a different side: one of curiosity, investment, and crossover ambition.
“Congratulations to @lonestarsac–thanks for having me out,” Scheffler said. “I could not be more proud of the club for winning the season championship in our inaugural year. It’s a testament to their talent and determination to overcome a tough start. There’s no ‘quit’ in this team.”
Beyond fishing, Scheffler owns a stake in the Texas Ranchers, one of Major League Pickleball’s leading franchises. His PGA Tour peers Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth invested in Leeds United Football Club, while Gooch expanded his portfolio further with a professional bull-riding franchise in Oklahoma.
Scheffler Launches a Free Junior Tour
In a move that underscores his growing influence off the course, Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, recently announced the creation of the Randy Smith Junior Tour, a no-cost junior golf circuit for kids ages 6-12 in North Texas.
Children will be able to participate in 10-12 events throughout 2026 without paying membership or entry fees, thanks to a partnership with the Northern Texas PGA. Scheffler described the initiative as a way to pay forward the legacy of his longtime coach, Randy Smith: “He taught me that golf is about more than just scores. It’s about character, respect, and the people who help you along the way.
“That’s the legacy that Meredith and I are excited to pass on. We are proud to help start the Randy Smith Tour.”
