I believe 90% of the shot is taken care of before you ever take the club back. Can you believe it? Well, it’s true. We want to build the swing into our stance. And if we have everything ready to go, all we have to do is two turns in a swoosh and the shot’s going to take care of itself. The first thing I changed with my golf stance after reading five lessons was I made sure that my trail foot was at a 90° angle to the target line. I want my toes basically pointing straight ahead of me with my trail foot. With my lead foot, I want my toes turned out slightly. About a quarter of a turn is what Mr. Hogan says,

  1. I’m going to return to that with my trail foot and give it a go. As I got older I turned my trail foot out similar to my lead foot to make coiling in the backswing easier but I think keeping it 90° to the target line transfers my weight more effectively and consistently to my inside trail heel without excessive lateral movement.

  2. I agree on getting the majority of the shot done before pulling the trigger in your aim alignment set up & posture, I used that foot position for 40+ years but I got it off Greg Norman's long game video then I read Modern Fundamentals in the mid 80's, yes what a book, later I found a 1st edition in the UK (1957) from a used book store! A wonderful way to get into Mr Hogan's mind!

  3. Hogan started with the right foot straight, but actually moved the toe out a few degrees before he actually took the club away… check out some on film of him and you will see what I'm saying
