With just three tournaments left in the 2025 schedule after this week at the Bank of Utah Championship, every shot and every FedExCup point counts even more than usual. The field is chock-full of proven winners, up-and-coming stars and more as they take on the unique Black Desert Resort, which was cut through a lava field. Alex Noren is the top-ranked golfer teeing it up in Utah. The Swede won twice this summer on the DP World Tour and finished tied for 27th in Japan after joining Luke Donald’s leadership squad as a vice captain for the winning European Team at the Ryder Cup. Matt McCarty will defend his title in Utah after his breakthrough TOUR title a year ago. McCarty’s best finish of the season was a T4 at the RBC Canadian Open and comes into his title defense off a T14 in Japan, where he shot an incredible final-round 60 – which featured a run of eight birdies in a row. Joining them are other star players such as Australia’s Jason Day, Aldrich Potgieter, and Billy Horschel.

They joked about how she actually beat his score. She was 25 under. He was 23 under. She’s a heck of a ball striker. And we get an assist off McNeely’s ball. Stay on that top shelf. There you go. Good shot there for the defending champ. So now Horchel looks like he wants to work this one from left to right. That’s the way to play it, I suppose. Now Matt Bardi from 50 yards closer. Good hole location for the lefty. Good burning. How about it? Back to back for Matt McCarti. Good hole location for Homo. Will Yep. From a bit of a downs slope. A little more aggressive and a little more shape still left of it. This could be really good. Like he almost hooped it. Sure did. Home and now for Bernie. Should be a perfect putt for him. It’s a good call, Will. Second shot for Mccardi. 168. Well, he’s playing this hole the right way. ball slightly below his feet while the rocks blocking the view of the putting surface, but that’s on a very nice line and it’ll come down that slope that Billy Horchel was trying to use. Getting better and better. That’s course knowledge right there from Matt McCarti. How good was that shot? He’s a player who’s not afraid to get the leading edge involved. Well, when you’re not afraid, it can give you so much confidence because a lot of players are afraid to get that leading edge involved. That was a beautiful shot there. I’ve taken many tests in my life that I have not passed and I have no doubt that that would be another failure. Birdie got on the way for McCardi. Oh wow. How good is he feeling right now? He is dialed in. He He’s got to really love this golf course. Obviously played well here last year. Yeah, this is exactly how I thought he should play it. A little conservative, but but very good. Get just beyond that hole to get himself on the right shelf there. Will ball above his feet. Not the easiest shot for a guy who consistently loves to work it hard from left to right, but showing why he’s a shot maker. Still a bogey-free afternoon for Max. You know what they say, beware of the injured golfer. Beware of the injured golfer. Max Homa all the way he is hitting the ball today it just sounds really good playing some good golf for under par for the tournament and that’s another nice shot there was telling Justin earlier you know that has played some good golf even while hurt and a beautiful shot just outside of 12 feet here only had one top 10 this season there you go well done that was back. Fortunate to get it to this spot after a bit of trouble off the tea, trying to chase something up there. That’s a really artistic little shot there for Max Homer. Just barely down the hill, moving a little right to left. Good looking pace. And look at Max walk it in or hobble it in, I should say. Yeah, it continues though. The good work from Max Hbert is Pearson Cudy. A little bonus golf for you. Birdie put at 12. and the Texas alum trying to roll one in on the 12th downhill. Very well done there. This is a player that’s bounced back and forth. He had conditional status this year on the PGA Tour after getting his card on the corn ferry at the 13th. This is third. Playing some nice golf this week. Got it in the green FedEx Cup points list and using that back stop. Really, really well done there. That’s tracking. Go in. It’s been interesting to see guys lay up or or go for it. We’ve seen a couple Eagles already. One was made with a putter and then this one laid up to a perfect wedge number. This first hop takes it. You’ve really got to judge the the first bounce out here, but then Oh yeah. Does it get any cooler than on a string spinning it back in and hooping it for the two? In this second round, defending champ Matt McCarti once again standing tall. This for Bernie on 16. Left that second shot in a perfect spot to putt from. Can’t get too greedy like we just saw. And that is just the sixth birdie of the day at the 16th. Similar spot for Thagawa. Yeah, coming off a disappointing bogey at the last. This is a great opportunity to bounce back here and get something in tight. Oh, that looks good. Using that spin to his advantage there. Pushes the ball up the fairway. Level eye lie here. 160 with the gala. He too trying to bring it in from right to left. See if it Yeah. Uses that little sideboard right there to keep it in close. You can be aggressive with it here. You don’t have to be worried about running it past these greens. Running right around 12 and a half on the stint meter. You can get going with the potter right there. Saw hits the gala. A birdie and an eagle on the two parfs on the front side. taking this much higher than Clanton. A bit unfortunate bounce so soft, but he’ll have a look at Eagle to get to 11. Get right back into a chance to make this weekend. See if that gives him some life the rest of this second round. Brennan done for the day. 65 at 10 under par. up to 18. Cooty hattick. Three birdies for this group on the closing hole. third for Hoey here at nine. All right, Scott here. Couple hops and it’s going to come out really dead. That was really well done. You can see the reversals making it to where the like rain was just growing right into his ball which got winds into him as well. So that should help if he wants to land it on the top. What a shot. Such a thin line for I mean that landed a foot on top of the ridge. Justin Lowour at 15. Yeah, it’s a big ask to knock this one in, but things are going well. Very well. How about that? Coming towards the end of your second day. And spin it to the front side. Ford at the ninth, his third for nine. Releases nicely. soft. That’s what he’s doing. Middle of the green. Come on back. Should come back a little bit. Yeah, great shot. Really hard to do a whole lot better than that proximity wise about as close. And Sagala not much left here. And he moves to six under par with his fourth birdie today. Third shot from just right. Going a little low here trying to chase something up. This is a pretty shot here. Just barely going to go by the hole. And he’ll have that left for his birdie to get it back to seven under par for the tournament. Let’s birdie get it to seven under par. walking after it. Another pretty shot there. 700 park currently T8 and today a four under 67. Good play in tied for eighth as he heads into the weekend. All right, guys. Three short blast. One, two, 3. All right, guys. We’re going to resume at 8:00 a.m. in position for round two. So, a fun couple days here on PGA Tour Live bringing you this Bank of Utah Championship. Julia Michael Brennan are leader heading into the weekend it looks like and we’ll see if maybe it’ll be the second year in a row that we get a player in his third start on tour getting a win.
