Streamsong Golf Resort: The Ultimate East Coast Golf Destination

Imagine being blindfolded, driven to a remote location, and upon unveiling your eyes, you find yourself in a golfer’s paradise unlike any other on Earth. That’s the experience. Streamong Golf Resort in Central Florida delivers. A 16,000 acre oasis on reclaimed phosphate mining land, now home to four of the East Coast’s most acclaimed golf courses. But here’s where it gets even more thrilling. A fifth course designed by the legendary David Mcclelay kid is on the horizon and it’s poised to be the checkmate move in Streamong’s quest for golf supremacy. But here’s where it gets controversial. While other premier golf resorts on the east coast are dotted with real estate, Streamong and its counterpart Bandon Dunes stand alone as the only two with no homes encroaching on their courses. Is this the secret to their unparalleled golfing experience? or is it just the beginning of a larger conversation about what makes a golf resort truly exceptional? Let’s dive in. I recently had the privilege of walking the yettobe named fifth course with Mcclelay Kid himself. Though still under construction, the course already exudes a sense of grandeur with grass filling in beautifully and a design that promises to challenge and delight golfers of all skill levels. Listening to Mcclelay Kid describe the myriad strategies for playing each hole felt like unlocking a new dimension of the game akin to the first time I stood in awe of the Rocky Mountains or experience the mindexpanding clarity of psilocybin. It was a revelation. I’d been playing 2D chess while a multi-dimensional world of both existed just beyond my reach. Stream Song isn’t just playing the game, it’s redefining it. With the addition of Mcclelay Kids Course, the resort solidifies its position as the undisputed number one golf destination on the East Coast. But what makes this achievement even more remarkable is the company it keeps. In the modern pantheon of golf course designers, a new Mount Rushmore has emerged. David Mcclaykid, Tom Do, Bill Core, and Ben Krenshaw, and Gil HZ. These architects have collectively shaped the world’s most revered courses, and Streamong now boasts their masterpieces in one place. Let’s rewind for a moment. Bandon Dunes in Oregon, widely regarded as the number one golf resort globally, set the stage for these architects to shine. Mlay Kid designed the original Bandon Dunes course in 1999, followed by Do Pacific Dunes 2001, Core and Crenshaw’s Bandon Trails 2005, and Old McDonald 2010 by Do and Jim Erbina. Core and Crenshaw returned for Bandon Preserve 2012 and Sheep Ranch 2020, where I played one of the most memorable rounds of my life amidst 45 to 50 mph gusts. Now imagine driving 3,130 mi southeast from Bandon to Streamong where four immaculate courses await with a fifth on the way. Streamong’s red and blue courses ranked number 20 and number 26 by Golf Digest opened in 2012 sharing a clubhouse. The black course ranked number 33 debuted in 2017 with its own clubhouse. The chain, a 19-hole short course designed for match play, opened in 2024, and I was among the first to experience its unique charm. Each course bears the signature of its architect. Red and the chain by Corin Krenshaw, Blue by Do, Black by Hansy, and now the fifth course by Mclay Kid, completing the circle of greatness. And this is the part most people miss. The fifth course initially posed a logistical challenge, requiring a new clubhouse that would have cost tens of millions of dollars. But Mcclelay kid, ever the problem solver, devised a way for the new course to share a clubhouse with Black, moving literal mountains, dunes of land around central Florida’s lakes to make it happen. This ingenuity ensures that every dollar is invested in crafting a course that could rank among America’s top 10 public courses. Walking the course with Mcclelay kid felt like a masterclass in golf architecture. His love for short par4s as signature holes is evident in the sixth 353 yds and 11th 351 yards holes where long hitters can tempt fate while strategic players can thrive. These holes, he believes, are great equalizers in modern golf. A philosophy he’s honed while playing with his elderly father. The views, too, are breathtaking, offering pristine, untouched Florida landscapes that feel increasingly rare in a state booming with development. But here’s the million-doll question. What makes Streamong’s fifth course truly special? Mcclelay Kid’s answer is simple yet profound. Success to him will be hearing golfers debate which of Streamong’s courses they love most. Eager to play them all again, he envisions his course as an immediate contender for the best at Streamong, appealing to both low and high handicappers alike. As the course nears completion, aerial photos reveal a layout that sits on the edge of the abyss, offering unencumbered views that will leave golfers in awe. With no homes in sight, every shot feels like a journey into the wild. And while an exact opening date remains unknown, one thing is certain. When it opens next year, Stream Song will offer four worldclass 18hole courses. Three ranked in the top 33 in the US and the chain, a matchplay gem. Add to that the resort’s luxury lodge, steakouses, spa, and worldclass bass fishing, and it’s hard to imagine a better destination for a golf getaway. But here’s where it gets controversial. Is Streamong’s lack of real estate the key to its success, or is it the collective genius of its architects? Perhaps it’s the resort’s commitment to preserving Florida’s natural beauty. What do you think? Will Streamong’s fifth course be the crowning achievement it’s poised to be? Or is there room for debate? Share your thoughts in the comments. Let’s tee up this discussion.
