ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — This weekend, Devil’s Foot Beverage Company is not just a local craft soda company. At the 1st Annual Grip it and Sip It Disc Golf Tournament, they are the face of a charity disc golf championship.
The 18-hole Grip It and Sip It disc golf competition will be held from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Asheville Municipal Disc Golf Course.

The frontman of the Grip It and Sip It tournament is Arnaldo Alvarez, the vice president of sales at Devil’s Foot and a disc golf player himself.
Alvarez organized the tournament in collaboration with Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville, which had reached out to Devil’s Foot about the possibility of sponsoring a tournament at the repurposed Asheville Municipal Golf Course, which was transformed into a disc golf course after suffering damages during Hurricane Helene.
“Those guys were like, ‘Hey, we would love to try to do an event over here. How can we make this happen?’ Not knowing that I actually play disc golf and everything. So, I was like, this is a great tie in,” Alvarez recalled. “We really wanted to just host a great charity event, but make it affordable. You know, everyone’s hurting after the hurricane, budgets are tight, and we didn’t want to do a big charity event where it would cost, like, $100 per person.”
Alvarez’s favorite disc golf disc, an Innova “Champion Orc” driver.
Instead, Alvarez and Harrah’s developed Grip It and Sip It, which would cost $20 per person to sign up. The proceeds of the competition will go to support the Asheville Regional Coalition for Home Repair, or ARCHR, a Habitat for Humanity initiative that provides home repairs to Buncombe and Madison County residents.
Participants in the tournament will compete in pairs for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes, totaling $250, $125 and $50 in gift cards to sponsoring businesses like The Orange Peel, Wicked Weed and Chemist. Teams will also receive two commemorative driver discs with a special Devil’s Foot design.
Teams will alternate starting positions at the 18 holes of the Municipal course. As a bonus fundraiser, teams may purchase “mulligan” turns for $20 apiece, allowing a bad throw to be stricken from their score.
Alvarez is enthusiastic about the potential of the Grip It and Sip It tournament becoming a recurring event.
“If it is successful, we thought we could definitely do this once a year. It doesn’t necessarily have to be at the Municipal course. It could be at Richmond Hill that just reopened, one of my favorites,” Alvarez said. “Highland Brewing has a course. There’s one in Hendersonville. So, you know, there’s no lack of disc golf courses in the area. We could definitely just throw some love to everybody, and then tie it to a really great organization and just have a lot of fun with it.”
