Henrik Stinson’s time with LIIV Golf came to a disappointing close earlier this year after Swedish star was officially relegated from the breakaway league. The 2016 Open champion was one of six players to finish inside LIIV’s drop zone following the final event of the 2025 regular season in Indianapolis, meaning he lost his playing rights for 2026. Heading into that season ending tournament, most eyes were actually on Stinson’s Mage Stickix’s GC teammate Ian Poulter, who looked destined to be the one to fall out of the league. But in dramatic fashion, Palter produced a gutsy final round at the club at Cadam Hills to climb out of danger. Doing so at the expense of his co- captain and close friend Stinson. On a personal note, obviously a disappointing season and a disappointing Sunday for me, Stinson said after his relegation. Over the course of a career, you’re going to have good years and bad years. That’s part of professional sports. You’ll have disappointment and you’ll have great moments. This time around, I had the worst season on the team and I’m in the toughest spot. You just got to deal with it and move forward. What happens next for Stinson remains uncertain, but the 47year-old has several potential routes back into elite competition. Despite his relegation, Stenson could still return to the LIV golf roster through LIIV promotions. The league’s qualifying event typically held at the end of the year. The Qchool style tournament provides an opportunity for demoted players to earn their way back into the 48-man field. However, details for the 2025 edition, including how many promotion spots will be available and where will take place, have not yet been announced. In 2023, three players earned promotion. That number dropped to just one in 2024 that relegated LIIV players automatically gain entry into the Asian Tours International Series, offering Stinson another competitive pathway. Should he finish at the top of the International Series order of merit, he would reclaim his spot on the LIV golf roster for the following season. Stinson could also consider returning to the DP World Tour, the circuit where he made his name. After joining LIIV in 2022, he was fined and suspended by the DP World Tour for violating membership rules, prompting him to resign his membership in 2023. Like Sergio Garcia, who recently rejoined the tour, Stinson could settle his outstanding sanctions and apply for reinstatement in 2026. Even if he does not return as a player, Stinson may remain involved with LIIV Golf in a leadership capacity. as co- captain and shareholder of the Mage Stickix GC alongside Poulter and Lee Westwood. He could transition into a non-playing captain’s role, continuing to contribute to the team’s strategy and management. Whether he chooses to fight his way back through the ranks or embrace a behind-the-scenes role, Henrik Stinson’s next chapter promises to be another intriguing turn in one of golf’s most storied careers.
