Penrith Golf Club’s work to give juniors a chance to learn and play the game has been recognised with a prestigious award.

A collaboration between England Golf and the Golf Foundation has seen the creation of a Junior Hub award with the aim of identifying and showcasing clubs that are the “right place” for budding players to try, learn and love golf.

The award has been jointly created as something for clubs to aspire to achieve, and help and support will be provided to develop the offering for juniors.

The award provides access to new marketing assets to promote junior golf; a dedicated support team from the Golf Foundation and England Golf; and the opportunity to strengthen links with partner organisations and other community groups.

With the excellent work that has been undertaken at Penrith to develop their junior section, an application was made on behalf of the junior committee/club for the Salkeld Road club to be considered for this award.

Any application required comprehensive evidence across a number of key areas in relation to junior golf/safeguarding/work with partner agencies and the programme of coaching that is currently being provided at Penrith.

England Golf have announced that the club has been successful and they have been awarded the Junior Hub award. This recognises positive work that the club are doing with juniors and the opportunities that are being provided for young people to learn and play golf.

There will be a follow up meeting to further discuss junior golf at Penrith going forward, but this award recognises the time and energy that is given to the junior section by members of the hard working junior committee and other volunteers.

Phil Park MBE, secretary/coach at the club, said: “It is very pleasing that the work of the club with juniors has been recognised in this manner by organisations independent of the club.

“It does not happen overnight and takes a lot of volunteer time so thanks to all those who provide unstinting support.”
