Scottie Scheffler delivered a gritty performance in Sunday singles at the 2025 Ryder Cup, outlasting Rory McIlroy at Bethpage Black. But after securing his first point of the week, Scheffler was quick to direct the spotlight toward his teammate Bryson DeChambeau for providing the spark Team USA needed.
Scheffler’s Grit and Team Resilience
Reflecting on the demanding week, Scheffler acknowledged the emotional and physical toll of competing in all five matches, crediting his team, and DeChambeau in particular, for lifting his spirits.
“It’s tough; playing all five matches is a grind. Rory and I even chatted about that a little bit today. It was a grind, and I’m pretty tired, but I’m proud of the fight that our team showed,” Scheffler said. “Keegan did a good job putting us in position and keeping the energy up, and the guys were motivated to come out and play. We’ve showed a lot of fight today, and we’ll see what happens. We’ve still got a fighting chance.”
Special Praise for Bryson DeChambeau
Scheffler became emotional when discussing what drove him forward after a few tough days. He singled out DeChambeau as a catalyst for the team’s energy and belief:

“The fight that these guys showed today, the fight that Bryson showed today and yesterday—I mean, the way he played in our match in the afternoon was amazing, and I don’t think I could have done what I did in my match today if he didn’t do what he was doing in front of me,” Scheffler said.
“He’s an emotional leader of our team, and he’s been great, and I’m proud to be battling with guys like that out here,” he added.
A Team Fueled by Passion
Scheffler’s words underscored the deep camaraderie and emotional intensity within Team USA, even as they faced adversity on home soil. He credited both captain Keegan Bradley and “special group” of players for picking each other up and keeping hope alive through tough stretches of the Ryder Cup.
With resilience and powerful leadership from players like DeChambeau, Team USA rallied late and showed they still had plenty of fight left at Bethpage.
