fans for sure. I mean, you know, hockey wise, I like the city’s incredible. I I mean, I’ve lived in a bunch of different areas around here and the city’s incredible, but the fans make it awesome and uh they’re just very unique. Some of the stories that and the things that I’ve seen fans do and and a lot of them aren’t PG-rated um in in like playoff runs and stuff like that. It’s so special and I think so unique to this area. Um, you know, and and I mean it’s as simple as as like every every time I’d go get a coffee, I’d go to the same routine. So, same coffee shop every day, you know, miss message on your cup, you know, about if I had a good game or bad game the night before, you know what I mean? Like, a tough one for you last night. So, I mean, all the way down, they’re just they bleed black and gold. And um that that’s part of why I think there’s so much pressure on the team to have success and why they focus on it so much is I mean you you can’t slip. I mean you guys see it. You’re all here every day and like you don’t have the ability to slip in the city or you’re going to hear about it and and uh you know we wanted to produce and be good for the fans and and live up to that reputation and um so it makes it special to to play here. It’s so hard to say goodbye to Brad Marian. Welcome in to Boston has entered the chat. That note, you just got to hit it. You know what I mean? Welcome into the sailing. You got a perfect echo over here. He built off. Great work. Travis Thomas, Joe Murray, the Casey Hudson, Brad. Oh, Brad. This is a safe space, everyone. 617-790928. Brad makes his return tonight to Boston. Yep. Are we getting the the rafters going? I don’t know. They’re going to announce maybe at some point that he’ll get his number retired, but should be a packed house tonight. Uh and he’ll be bringing some hardware with an all cheer standing ovation for Brad, right? I don’t think I can handle like an an announcement on top of the return, on top of like the official goodbye tour, but I can stand by the fact that like all hockey fans are going to be hyped to see Brad Marshian on TD Garden Ice tonight and he can tear things up in a number of ways. So, it’s going to be fun and emotional all around. Absolutely. We’re not stopping there. Of course, the World Series is set in stone. We don’t care about all that. We’re talking Red Sox off season here on Boston. I Well, I would have cared. The lead vocalist for D Yankees lose is playing. I would have cared if the Mariners went and I cashed that ticket. It always comes back to gambling for me. 61779 0928. Call us. Let’s talk Brad’s return. And let’s start here with this because Twitter was a blaze. Of course, I know it’s called X, but your mama named you Twitter. I’mma call you Twitter. Dan Kelly tweets, 100% of fans in attendance for tomorrow’s Bruins Panthers games should be giving Brad Marshian a standing ovation. I agree, my friend. He’s an all-time great Bruins player who never wanted to leave. And for Florida fans in attendance, he helped them win a Stanley Cup, too. How about that? Yep. And uh he does deserve the uh uh the ovation. I think that he deserves his flowers. He’s going to go to the Hall of Fame as well. Um, but I in in reality though, it didn’t work out here with him as the captain. They did him a favor. They sent him to a place where he won a championship. Oh, he got paid too. And we should probably throw that into as well. So, oh, I’m sure he’s real happy to come back to Boston today. I know. I love the O, he got paid, too. Very subtly there, but yeah, I mean, that was that was a way to get him what he deserved in a sense and try to make it make sense for both sides. We don’t need to get into the nitty-gritty of that, but more so seeing the standing ovation comes in for a number of reasons. Like yes, there is a loyal fan base here that loves him die hard and that will never change no matter what sweater he’s wearing, but also his ability to to get other fans on board. And I think that that really took off in the postseason with the Panthers, unfortunately. But his personality just came to life that much more across the board and like where the NHL is now going like you want to see this more. And I feel like he’s also spearheading that in a sense. So like the buyin from hockey fans in totality is massive. And I feel like there’s extra eyes on this game tonight because of what he is now becoming to this game and meaning for this game and plenty of interviews that I’ve done over my course of covering hockey, especially smaller frame guys. This is the dude they looked up to. This is the guy they talked about. There are parts of his game that they tried to replicate so that they themselves can have a long-standing career in the NHL. So there’s a lot of emotion packed into this. I’m just bitter about this. like Boston to Florida thing like what is it like you come here you star you win and then you end up in Florida Brady goes there marching many of you you make your money here and you’re like you know I’m tired of these winners and then you go to Florida I mean what is going on you did the opposite you came from Florida to here but most people I get extra flowers for that I guess so I it’s just the connection it’s strong listen I just I can’t believe Florida is actually like a a hockey town anymore I can’t believe that but he belongs there a bunch of rats that’s there and he fits right in and he’s perfect and he’s it just shows how the rat king now he is the rat king but he struggled there in Boston last year goes there and he just puts up incredible numbers but you know you mentioned this he’s relatable man he is and you know if you think about all the great Boston Bruins he’s probably the one guy that you could really look at and say man started as like a third liner worked his way up one of the best short-handed scorers of all time exactly and then you know could mix it up a little bit so I think he’s one relatable player that a lot of the fans can obviously, you know, look in look at look back and say, “Man, I love that guy.” More tweets from you. Call us, too. 617-7900928. We want to hear about your emotions with Brad’s return. Here’s Sam who tweets, “Still like Marshian and always will, but him in a catch jersey just feels so so wrong.” Him going to Florida was like when Hulk Hogan joined the nWo in WCW. My heart was broken that day. Not mine. Hollywood Hogan was lit. I loved Hollywood Hogan. I liked him way more than the say your prayers, brother. Eat your vitamins, brother. Do your push-ups. That was steroids, Hulk. I liked Hollywood Hogan. Help us with this because I don’t get the wrestling. Yes. Hulk Hogan was the greatest uh face of all time. And then turned his back. Yeah, he did. And then Well, it’s it’s not as much as that, but hey, I think they’ll get the ratings and the money and all that stuff. Brad Marshin brings that to the table here. But I don’t know, seeing him in a different jersey, does is does it really bother you? cuz I was happy for him during the run. What? I was I was rooting for Brad last year. That was crushed. Oh wow. I was not I have to be honest. But like on top of like just got to Boston, you know, the buyin for me for the Bruins came off the top and then I’m coming from a Tampa Bay Lightning background and the Panthers piss us off in every way possible because they’re trying to pretend like they’re the first to do it in Florida and that’s just not the case. So there’s so many things that the Panthers just do that don’t line up with me. Yeah. It’s interesting the takes here because we were both outsiders who came into this and listen I cover the caps forever. Marshian was a thorn in their side just like he was many other franchises in the league. So I always had a reverence for him in a lot of ways. He was the Bruins in my mind. So when I got here and had a chance to cover him, meet him, great guy, all that. I was attached immediately to the guy and then he’s gone. So I was I’m the same way. I was crushed. I was happy for him, of course, but I was crushed to see him win with them. Growing up here, though, when Ray Borcut traded and went to Colorado, we rooted for him and he brought the cup back to Boston for the first time. So, in a way, I kind of I had to kind of root that already kind of the same exact thing, you know. No, that makes a lot of sense. Hey, more tweets coming in. By the way, call us 6177900928. Briana, now she is a Panthers fan. Brad Marian hattick tomorrow against Boston. Who says no? We do. Not gonna happen. Although I do think he’s going to put the biscuit in the basket tonight. I just I don’t see a hat-tick coming. And I have the Bruins on upset alert. Watch out. Panthers not playing well right now. I’m just saying there’s a chance. I mean, Panthers not playing well right now. And I was uh looking at their back. I mean, the injury plague has continued to prevail for this team. When you lose a Demetri Kolakov, that’s going to hurt you. And that’s coming in on the back end where he was somebody who made sure to keep the area clean around his goalender. And that hasn’t been happening too much. That’s how Buffalo Sabres are kind of feeling themselves right now. Going on the doorstep time and time again. So, of course, I’m rooting for the demise of the Panthers. Brad can catch a goal. I’m okay with that. Yeah, I’ll say no on the hattick, but can he get a Gordy How hat-tick? You know, maybe mix it up with somebody and score a goal on the night. I’d love that one. And I would love that, too. And that would be so Brad, wouldn’t it? Like, who would he drop? Swaying, baby. Oh, let’s get it. Come on. Oh. Oh, yeah. Jeremy Swayman. Would he take the mask off? I don’t know. And there might have been a little issue between the two of them last year. I don’t know. I ain’t ready for all that, man. I don’t need that. I need more emotions. Alleged. I need more emotions. Here’s an emotional Brad one-on-one with Sophia. Check this out. I think everyone understood, you know, some people were wondering, “Oh, is he going to come back?” I think everyone understood. Um, you won the Stanley Cup. Congratulations with the Panthers. And what you wanted, what was best for you and your family to resign in Florida for a long term. What’s your message to the fans? Yeah, my message to the fans. Um, obviously I just want to thank you guys for uh a very incredible um stint here. It’s been the best years. My Well, sorry. Yeah. All right. Just have to do that again. Okay. Um, yeah, I just want to thank uh thank you guys for everything. Um, for the last 15 years has been the best years of my life. Um I I never could have imagined coming in uh to an organization, a city like this. Um you know, as a as a as a young boy, so much to learn. Um you know, and the way you guys embrace me and uh and love me uh as fans, I I can’t thank you enough. Um you know, I’ve built uh home, family here, and and I’ve grown old. Um, you guys been there every step of the way. So, I hope that uh, you know, I’ve brought you guys as much joy as you’ve brought me uh, and my family. Thank you for everything. Oh, I can’t I can’t, man. Like, I I’m not ready for all this. By the way, you can see that extended interview, the full thing on pre pregame. We have all your pregame and postgame coverage of tonight’s game here on Ness, so keep it locked like you always do. But seeing that, that just ripped my heart out all over again. And I thought I was healed. And then to see Brad get emotional and not even want to talk about this and have to step away and gather himself. And then he comes back. You can hear the voice cracking. You see the eyes watering. Oh, Brad. No. I’ll never get over this, man. Never. It got dusty in here. I was going to say it got a little misty. Did we turn Did we turn some extra fans on in this thing? Oh man, Brad. No. But that that’s real emotion, Joe. That’s real emotion. But can they can the Bruins Okay, let’s get into that emotion. Let’s get into it. Okay, so let’s have the discussion because I said I have them on upset alert tonight because the Panthers aren’t playing well. A I’m not saying the Bruins, look, that road trip was tough, but you’re back home. Okay, so neither team’s playing great, but the Panthers are not. And all the attention tonight is going to be on this. So if I’m the Bruins, there’s no pressure here. It’s outs money. Everyone’s looking at that guy. No one’s expecting us to win. I see the Bruins tonight making this a chippy competitive game and I think they could win. I know you like goals in this, right? Yes. Yes. And I’m sure Keith will be able to check me on some facts here, but um the Bruins can score goals. The problem is it’s all David Postnak, right? But uh the Florida Panthers give up a lot of goals, therefore the Bruins give up a lot of goals. So I would go with the over tonight, five and a half. Okay. But you like the Panthers gut feel? I just feel like the Bruins coming off a road trip and then first game back with all the emotion. Yeah, you would hope they’re hyped up for this, but teams that come back from a road trip generally struggle. Yeah. Plus, the Bruins need the win tonight. They need to show something. I think they both do, to be honest. I feel like the Bruins need it more. And I’m going to go with that because of just what the margin looked like in some of their losses. You know what I mean? Like some of the self-inflicted wounds, that’s going to sit with you more so. And Marco Sturm’s been talking about it being more of a mental thing than anything else. I mean, those first three games, they won in different forms and fashions. So, you have to credit a team that can win in different ways. We used to say that about the Red Sox, you know, until the run was over. So, I feel like this is going to mean more, not to take the emotional element away from it, but maybe that’s something that they can capitalize on because you have a handful of players on this roster that never played with Brad Marian. They can respect his game. They can respect what he brings to the NHL, but they didn’t play with him. They didn’t have those years with him. So right now this is a turnaround spot for the Bruins more than it is for the Panthers because the Panthers have the we’re injured, we’re banged up narrative. So right now it’s everything that they told themselves they weren’t going to do on the road trip that they need to make sure that they do tonight. Don’t end up on the penalty kill forever and ever. Amen. I don’t care how good you are. And you’re going against a Brad Marian whoa joked about is probably going to be gabbing at the gills a little bit and instigating situations. But you’re also talking about a team, the Florida Panthers, that led the NHL and drawn penalties last year and oh, by the way, are on a good trajectory to get right back there. Brad Marshian’s one of those leaders and so is Luceran. So, you’ve got guys that can strategically really impose their will on you mentally. So, if we want to see this Bruins team have a chance to get over a mental hump and get back to what they did well in game one, two, and three, regardless of how they got there, this is tonight. I think that’s a fair point. I haven’t seen either one of you since the road trip. M I’m sensing a little moral victory from you case in the sense cuz I said this on Monday yesterday’s show that you know with the exception of the Avalanche game I thought they were in these game they were in the game against Vegas they were in the game against Utah so I I know they lost the games that’s why I say moral victory Colorado almost the third period really but ultimately you did lose them but I don’t think it’s the same thing as coming back home after a road trip and feeling down on yourself they were in these games Joe yeah and they they score first and they give up the goal right then they get behind So, you can’t chase. Uh, but the the penalty minutes are the biggest thing, right? Whenever they get have more penalty minutes than the other team, they’re one and three, but come on now. They’re just not good enough. And the margin for error. You may have mentioned this earlier. They just don’t have it. They need to be better on on the blue line. They have to be better there. And may am I calling out the goalie? Maybe I am. But when you make that kind of money, we kind of hope you could maybe stop a few more shots in there. It’s not all his fault. I do think the defense can be better. They can block more shots. Charlie Makavoy can be better than not turn the puck over. Casey Middlestat’s not giving him anything. He got benched last game for Hustadinov and then gives up a turnover as well. It’s just Marco Sturm’s really moving some pieces right now. And they weren’t look good early on in the season. Now I just think they’re hurting themselves constantly. And part of that pain is the turnovers. Yeah. you know, like there’s goals, there’s a num numerous goals that have come off of turnovers and some of that pain started versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning weren’t particularly the better team last week Monday, you know, but they come out with the victory because of the mistakes that have tended to take place and like we’re seeing Marco Stur blend up the lines a bit too to kind of see what works. My theory to this is making sure that he has a reliable player with a two-way game on each line, especially that top six. That’s why I think there’s been so much movement with Zaka because he’s fantastic when it comes to his shot, but also his defensive responsibility has been very stout for this team and I mean, he’s been known for it. So, kind of seeing how and where that’s going to work. That’s why I think he got punched out to wing initially because they needed somebody on the wing end in this system that was going to be able to contribute offensively but be sound defensively. So, you’re again, it comes back to that margin, but they clean some of these things up. Then you’re not putting your goalie in these really precarious situations. Yeah. Because turnovers, you have to be able to respond in the blink of an eye and you can’t have consistent breakdowns in front of him and then look to him to be like, “Hey, can you bail us out again?” I jotted two things down talking to you two right now. Limit turnovers I got from Casey and Sway needs to stand on his head I got from you. What are some other keys to this game for the Bruins to pull off this upset? I think uh Florida’s very good on the power play and I would just look to maybe not let them go on the power play. Less mistakes. Less mistakes. And they blocked so many shots in the first couple of games. Have they gone away from that? They have to be better in front of the goalender. I know I’m on Swayman. I always will be with that contract. They can be better in front of them. Actually, fantastic point because they are fourth in the league for how many power play points they have. So, they rely on that power play. They instigate you, they bait you into a mess, and then before you know it, they’re on the power play looking to pick up points. And Carter HGY is tremendous in a number of ways. He can take away the puck from you. He can use his speed to beat you. And also, he can find the back of the net when he needs to. and he’s kind of been up there in terms of grabbing some of those power play points. You would think that it was Reinhardt, but he’s actually fourth on this team right now when it comes to power play success. So, keep him off of the power play. They have to be smart and because what you also don’t want this to come down to is it being a a puzzle or a strategy test between Marco Sturm and Paul Maurice because Paul Maurice is a strategist. Marco Sturm can get there, but he’s in his first year in the NHL. So, this is a guy too who quickly makes line changes. They’ve caught a number of teams in the middle of a line change. Get a breakaway opportunity and before you know it, they’re ahead of you. So, the strategy game is going to be a big extra element to all of this as well. And especially for a team that does rely on the power play. They’re only sitting fourth in power play points behind the Jets, the Golden Knights. And I’m trying to think of the other team here. Jets, Golden Knights, and the Wild. Wow. I mean, listen, you know, not to look too far ahead here, but if you can get this upset, win this game, you got the Ducks next up, so you can get some momentum back here if you’re And a rematch versus Colorado and then a rematch and a game that you were in. 617-790928. Call us. We’re talking bees, the return of Brad. How do you feel about it? We’re talking feelings here. It’s a safe space. Let it all out. 617-7928. When we come back, what’s trending in the world of sports right here on Boston has entered the chat. And remember this, get the latest up to-date live, baby. Boston sports headlines along with your daily dose of trending sports and social topics every weekday right here on Boston has entered the chat. Catch us live at 8 a.m. on Nessen and 9:00 a.m. right here on, you guessed it, Nessen Nation, every Monday through Friday. Keep it locked. [Music] Time now for what’s trending in the world of sports. Sports. Sports. Did you two know the NBA starts tonight? How about these offerings? Did you watch Hercules with your saw this weekend? You saw that Rockets at Thunder. I actually did. Warriors at Lakers. Warriors at Lakers. No LeBron. Of course there isn’t. Uh but and the Celtics tomorrow night. But former Knicks head coach Tom Tibido was actually at Celtics practice yesterday. This according to at green runs deep. The Celtics fired Tibido after reaching the conference finals proving once again they play chess on a checkerboard. Welcome home Tom. So he was at practice snitching just giving all kinds of information to Missoula and the crew about the Knicks beat them. Hey yeah Joe, you know I out coached you in the playoffs. Well, this is how I did it. He was giving up all the trade secrets. And of course, Tibido used to be an assistant here with Doc Rivers helped win the championship. So, I love the fact that he was snitching and giving up and his and you know, look, his loyalties clearly with the Celtics. So, I respect that. I’m glad he did that. But in the end, I don’t think it matters much now because there’s a new coach with the Knicks and the Celtics don’t exactly look the same. You know what I mean? And Tom Tibet got a raw deal. Let’s face it, he did. Go to an Eastern Conference finals, get canned. It’s just not really the the best look for New York. But, you know, it’s funny. I thought that he just came back to meet with uh Joe Mazula and the Celtics, but no, he he’s been meeting with other teams. So, I think he is interested maybe in his next job and, you know, what openings could be. There’s been other guys that have come in, Jenkins, other guy other coaches that have been fired. So, Tibido is one of the best defensive coaches in the history of the game really, if you go back over the last 20 years. But, is he sniffing around or was he sharing secrets? I’m still not over the New York Knicks ending whatever dynasty that the Celtics had the last couple years. That whole situation irritated the everlife man. Did anybody check his cup by the way? Like was he having Irish coffee and decided to just like really spill? It’s possible. No, it’s just like another wounded coach that ended up getting caught up in the mess that is New York because New York likes to approach teams and seasons with no identity, no plan, and then point fingers. So, of course, he’s out here kind of talking number one and two probably in the job search, but hopefully or I don’t I can’t say hopefully cuz I can’t speak to the guys who are like really into hoops, which is y’all. But if this is more of like a hey, that’s what I think it is. What can I do for Boston? Yeah. Well, I think it’s both. I think Joe’s right. I think he’s posturing for his next job. And by the way, let’s let’s stay here for a second. If I have a veteran team and I’m an owner, I’m not hiring him, okay? Like like let me be clear. I have veteran guys with a lot of mileage on their bodies. No thanks, Tibs. I don’t need you to run them into a wall. If I have a young team that’s not playing hard, but they’re talented. We know all the crappy teams in this league. They’re all the same. I’m hiring him. If I’m a Wizards or someone like that, I have a bunch of young talent and these guys are losers. They don’t know how to win. That’s a guy I want cuz he’s going to squeeze all the juice out of you. So, I I do case I think there’s some of it of screw New York. This is a way I love Boston. and I can help them and screw over the Knicks even though he’s not really. And then I think what Joe’s saying, there’s some posturing for the next job, too. Two things can be true at once here. It could be. I mean, look, what did you give him enough credit to say that he’s a good enough coach to where he’s not going to try to run the legs off of older players? Cuz you’re also looking whoever. You’re looking at a franchise that’s without their star player. When they get him back, the last thing you want to do is run him into the ground so that what we’re talking about a potential championship 10 years from now versus three years. Well, that’s a problem with with hiring a Tibs. He doesn’t give a damn. He’s going to run you regardless. And that’s a pro. That’s some of the problem is teams run out of gas. No, absolutely. It’s one of the problems. But Jaylen Brown did mention this off season how much they’ve been running the Celtics have. And then he comes up a little lame on his hamstring. Right. So just, you know, maybe he’s learning something. He’s taken something from Tom Tibido, who I believe you might have said out coached him. He did out coach Joe Mazul. So maybe he’s trying to take some of, you know, his stuff. Maybe he needs to be harder on the guys. made me think it was too loose of a camp. I see what you’re doing there. Hey, I’m not a big Missou. Not a big Missoula guy, but I don’t want tips either. I I I’ll move on completely from both of those guys. All right, here’s the other one. We always say call us 617-79 0928. So, you you are trending because when we tell you to call us, you respond in kind as always. Here’s Allan in Arizona by way of Lawrence. He’s family to the program. Wants to talk about your Patriots. Take a listen. Hey, good morning, guys. Allen from Lawrence now residing in Arizona. The Patriots. This is the kind of development we need to see. I will say some of the disconcerning things are uh the other side of the Will Campbell line with Cleveland coming up like you were just talking about. We don’t want Drake May getting beaten up. So, I’m hoping for some better protection, maybe some better schemes. Like you said, Drake may get downed. Uh he’s been getting down, but in a positive way. And it’s nice to see the development of uh Bouty. We got some Bouty in the house and the other receivers pop. Douglas is starting to pop. No pun intended. So like I just want to see them keep on rolling. They should literally be six and one at the very least. I think we’re powering through and I think we are going to win the AFC East. I believe that uh defense we need to get a little bit more progression I feel like uh especially at the beginning of games but other than that these are wonderful complaints to have quality of problems. I hope you guys have a wonderful day. Thank you. Boy, winning the division has a nice ring to it. Let’s hear from you. We heard from Allen 617900928. Lots to unpack there. The thing that stood out to me was really the Browns defense. And I think that presents a real challenge this week for this Patriots team. Pats should win. Browns stink, especially offensively, but defensively they present a real problem. Oh yeah, they’re the best defense in football. But I do think the Patriots had a game plan this week uh against Tennessee to run the football, right? 175 on the ground orre Stevenson got going. So I think they’re going to that’s going to be their blueprint this week is to run the football. But I would ask the Patriots defense, please do better in the first half. Yes. Right. Because the second half you’re very good. That’s right. First half, how about don’t give up 74 points in the first half and 56 in the second half. That’s where I’d go, Casey. Yeah. Because you guys don’t want this to be a rock fight in the third quarter and then trying to see who’s going to get the gut punch in the fourth quarter. They’re doing so many things well. So luckily week by week, I think it’s just one extra tweak. Yeah. So I’m right there with Joe. Start off strong. Make a statement out the gate and let Drake May continue to coach. Yeah. Not just the defense, the whole team. Get get out of the gate faster. Get a a faster start. I agree with you there. Especially a team like the Browns, right? Like offensively, who’s throwing you back into that game? Dylan Gabriel, not no. How’s hell no sound? It’s not going to happen. So, if you can go up on them two scores, game over. How’s that sound? I want to see some interceptions. Yeah. So, I’ll take an interception. How about this? Win at home. You went four of them on a road. Continue to win at home, please. Amen. Still to come here. Hey, the World Series is set set in stone, but we don’t give a damn about that. We’re talking Red Sox off season here on Boston has entered the chat. Come talk it with us. Would you get in here? [Music] [Applause] Now, I think what we need to do and what we’ll do over the course of the offseason is take a step back and really recognize what type of potential pitching additions or acquisitions really move the needle for us because we do have um you know what what I would suggest is a strong group of of pitching depth. Um and so we want to make sure that any additions that we make actually improve our team. And you know, I think you can you can say, “Hey, we’ve got to add someone at the front of the rotation.” Or, you know, if there was uh significantly less depth, we would say we need to just amass depth because of the things like injury and attrition that that wear that down. Where we don’t want to find ourselves is having to address both. Um, and I I don’t think that’s the case right now. All right, back at it live in the Salem 5 studio. That was Craig Braslo on 310 where you can catch all Red Sox deep dives. But we mentioned friends earlier in the program. None other than Gordo being one of our besties here on Boston has end of the chat. You know, we call you in Nat when it is time to get the lowdown or at least try to like break down any sort of mysterious ideas or just get better information in terms of what should we be looking at when it comes to pitchers. We’ve talked about this for months now. We thought that we would grab, you know, a two or three or the focus was a fourth guy maybe more so. And now a few things have changed after the early exit in the postseason. So of course, first and foremost, how are you? And second, who’s on your list? I need help figuring out who should be coming to Boston to help out this team next season. Yeah, morning guys. There’s so so many options. Whether you go trademark, free agent market, I mean, if you’re if you’re talking my favorite guy, it’s it’s a name that surfaced since the last time I was here with you guys. It’s Hunter Green from Cincinnati. Who who knows if he could really if he’s actually available, but the you know the Reds media is kind of dangling that he could be available. Alex Spear wrote that maybe they could dangle him in the off season. He’s got four years left to control and that dude throws 100 miles an hour from innings one through seven. Like he is he is a guy and he is just one of six, seven names on the trade market you could look to. I mean, we’ve talked about a lot of these guys like Joe Ryan’s been a name that’s surfaced in in Boston for the better part of four or five months now, but there’s a lot of guys available and the Red Sox do need to find themselves with one by the end of the offseason. Okay, respectfully, N cuz you my man. You know, I call you big swole. We in the gym together. But Hunter Green, who I do like, that’s your top choice. Like, you just talked about Joe Ryan. You gloss over him. Scoo allegedly could be available. Why Hunter Green when you have these two? Why are you taking him over them? Is it just because of the control? It it’s in it’s in large part because of the control, but Hunter Green is is a 26-year-old stud who really came into his own this year. The the thing is like obviously you’re you’re not wrong at all. Terrick Scooel is the best pitcher in the American League and he would be the best pitcher to be moved if he if he moves. He is everything. But it’s just one year of control. He’s got Scott Boris as his agent. You’re going to be going against the behemoths of baseball to keep him. You’re going to have to give up a ton to get him. I would still do it if it if it’s an option. Again, who knows if it’s even an option. The Tigers could be playing chicken here with the guy. But yeah, if if he’s available, you got to make a big push for him. But the reason I like like Hunter Green as an option more is because yeah, he’s he’s an ace himself. He’s got four years of control. He’s 26 years old. The Red Sox love chasing velocity and no one has velocity as a starting pitcher quite like Hunter Green. But again, it really is just about making sure you end up with one of these guys. You know, you you got the ace in crochet last off season. So to me, you can be a little bit less picky with you don’t need to knock it out of the park with an A+ ad here, but you do need a guy that you can trust to go out there and win you a playoff game next year. Gordo, there’s two former allstars available for Amber Valdez has ties to Alice Core. Ranger Suarez is another one. I’m not sure if the Red Sox sign of free agent when when they have it’s generally been someone that’s injured that they get on a decent deal. I think trade’s the way to go. If it’s not Joe Ryan, could it be Pablo Lopez or the Twins as well? Lopez is an interesting option and the Twins, it feels like they’ve been looking to cut salary. You saw it with the Koreah trade. Pablo Lopez is is a very good pitcher. He missed some time last year with injury, but that’s a guy who if he’s healthy, fits exactly the mold you’re looking for for a number two. So, that’s a good option. And, you know, it’d be interesting because if you’re talking with the Twins, I’m sure they’re going to be talking Joe Ryan. But, if Pablo Lopez’s name came up, would I be surprised? Absolutely not. I’m sure he’s a guy the Twins could look to move. I mean, he does make some money, but certainly not going to make as much money as a couple of the free agents you just listed there. And you know, the Red Sox are their payroll’s a little bit higher than I think people would think postdeavor’s trade. They’re about $30 million off of where they were in last year’s payroll. And that’s before potentially bringing Alex Bregman back. So you’re you’re not going to be able to go out there and sign a big bat, sign Alex Bregman, sign a starting pitcher. Like if they’re going to fix all these holes, these deficiencies on the roster, yeah, you’re going to have to take trades into account here. Okay. So, the Twins was a team that came up quite a bit, especially towards the trade deadline. But another team that seems to have a bit of a pitching bank that other teams were kind of looking to pull from would be the Miami Marlins. Is there anything appealing coming out of Miami for you that could be a good fit for Boston? Well, out of Miami, I really like Sandy Alcantra there. He he’s a guy who at the deadline was kind of a mystery because I mean this is a guy with a sai young past who had just an abysmal first half and basically entire season leading up to the deadline but a sub3 RA post deadline the velocity was there the whole way we’ve seen tons of guys struggle out the gate coming off a surgery even like Lucas Gilito last year was kind of abbreviated because he really figured it out but first six or seven starts were awful before he had a 251 uh in his final 19 starts of the season. Alcantra was prolonged. It it didn’t look good. The the command was not what it was, but the velocity was there and he really kind of came back into his own uh down the stretch at the very end of the season. It’s a guy with a couple years left of control and he is historically been amazing at eating innings and just he’s been the best pitcher in baseball in the past. I think he can tap back and maybe not to what he was in the past, but can he be a number two? Oh, easily easily could see that guy being a number two next year. So, I’m I’m selling myself more and more on a guy like Alcantra every day. All right, Nat, I always take copious notes when you’re on because I I learn a lot from you. I love talking ball with you. I wrote down three things it seems like all of us agree on. You have to resign Bregman and Story if he opts out. This is this is like offseason wish list stuff. another bat. Preferably for me, I like a big burly lumberjack man as I told you before like a Schwarber or a polar bear, Lonzo. And then and then three, I have a bonafide number two starting pitcher. Okay, if you go power ranking style of these three things, give them to me in order of importance. Is it keeping Bregman in Story? Is it the number two starter? Is it the big burly man bat that we need? give them to me in sort of uh of order of operations important to least important for this offseason for the socks. Well, I feel like it starts and it’s crazy because it might be the least important need if you’re going like purely on paper, but Alex Bregman needs to be step one of this offseason. You got to find a way to get that guy back here. Everything starts with him. And I know he had a a a poor statistical second half when at post injury it wasn’t good. But you talk to anyone in that clubhouse, coaching staff, players, everything they did this year, even when he was hurt, started with Alex Bregman. So to me, you can’t let that that tenure in Boston end after one year. like there’s there is a process that needs to happen with some of these kids that are that are getting acclimated to the big leagues and he needs to be there uh for that. Okay, not just on the field but off the field. To me, the second most important thing I’m going to go with the number two starter just because I think long-term that’s more important and more of a need than the bat. Whereas the bat, I think you really need to figure out you need to get a big home run bat for next year. But I do think they have guys on this roster where long term they can be that whether it be Roman Anthony, Willard Abrau, even Marcel Meyer or Christian Campbell, like you’ve got guys that can grow into that. Whereas with the pitching, I mean after Crochet, maybe Peyton Tolley has that upside. Maybe Brian Beo could tap into it for a year or two, but you don’t have that necessarily ace potential in the rotation even even in the system right now. Like there are good pitchers, but a guy who can be like a number one or a number two, it’s a little bit more of a stretch. So, I’ll go I’ll go number one Bregman. Okay. Number two, the number two starter. And number three, the big bat. But I do think you got to get all three. Okay. All right. So, hold on. Bregman’s back. Hunter Green, who you like. Let’s say we acquire him. Do you think they’ll have enough money to go and get someone else like big batwise, or do you think that is the off season? It’s Bregman and it’s a pitcher. I I mean I guess like I’m looking at it like do you have enough to go get one? Like Pete Alonzo is not cheap, right? So is there some ancillary guys that are a little bit like kind of Walmart brand? Like it’s not it ain’t Gucci. Walmart doesn’t move the needle. Craig said move the needle. Travis, can we get a baller on a budget if I if you bring back Bregman? Cuz that’s going to cost a bag. You trade for Hunter Green. I mean, are you gonna have enough money here to get something designer or are we talking about like, you know, bargain basement for crying out loud? You went from Walmart to design not help. Well, if if you if you want to get all three and you want to let’s say you you want to end up with like Pete Alonzo or Kyle Schwarber as the bat. Yeah. The way I would go about it is you trade for Joe Ryan who’s expected to make less than $6 million this year. You trade for Freddy Peralta from Milwaukee who’s going to be under contract for $8 million this year. Okay? Like even Hunter Green, his AAV might be around the 13 million, but his cash is below it. Okay, so there’s ways they could go about this. I do think they might need to get a little bit creative shedding salary. And if they’re going to bring in a big bat, you’re going to have to figure out the Masataka Yosha thing anyway, right? But it might just be about instead of dumping the guy and getting a team to eat half the contract, you might need to attach something a little bit better. get some get a team to eat a little bit more of it than you were maybe planning on and attach a better piece to do it. But there’s some creative ways the Red Sox can keep payroll down. They can they can accomplish what they need to accomplish and stay under that second tier of the luxury tax. That’s kind of what I feel like the goal is going to be for them is is stay under the second luxury tax tier and leave enough room to make additions at the deadline without without really like because you’ve seen some of these teams that push themselves right up to the brink and want to stay under. They they attach way too much to to to get some of these dude some of these teams to eat money on players at the deadline. I I’d like the Red Sox to I mean I’ first of all I’d love for them to go over the second tier but just speaking historically they haven’t done that in some time so I’m not gonna count on it before it happens. Yeah. Just to mention uh ballers on a budget what’s the deal at first base? Are they going to Is it going to be Tristan Casses? Like is that the baller? That’s how you intro that joke. Yeah. And then you know again maybe it’s not Alonzo but what other first base options could there be for the Red Sox? Well, it’s interesting. At the deadline, they pursued Auhaneo Suarez and it didn’t get a ton of play because it didn’t come out till after he got traded, but they were going to pursue him to teach him first base in season. And we we have not seen the Red Sox, we’ve seen the Red Sox be not shy about being willing to to teach other players first base. And you saw it with Romy Gonzalez as recently as the last couple of seasons. Auhaneo Suarez could be the dude. I He’s still going to make a lot of money. It’s not going to be as long of a deal, but that’s a guy who hit 49 home runs. There are options. I mean, Christian Campbell played over there, but they’ve kind of they’ve talked about how maybe that’s not going to be the primary spot for him. I still think Tristan Kas is is going to get a shot, but it just might not be as much of a guarantee. You know, this is your position and run with it. It might be a hey, like let’s see how it looks in spring training. And if it doesn’t look ready, like we could see him platooning to start the year. We could see him in Worcester getting fulltime at bats till he till he comes all the way around. First base. It could be interesting. Like my first choice would be Pete Alonzo and and you see where it goes with Kasus. He could he could platoon at DH. He could be your DH. But if if it doesn’t go the Alonzo route like there are other options, but you do need to find a way either at first base or DH to have a 30 plus home run guy that you know opening day is going to get there. All right, Nat, do you think Drake gets his revenge or Kendrick wins by KO again? Who you taking? Blue Jays or Dodgers, bro? Who you got? You know, I feel like everyone in their mother is picking the Blue Jays and I think it’s fair. People think the Blue Jays are going to walk or sorry, the Dodgers. The Dodgers are going to walk all over the Blue Jays. I don’t think it’s that much of a I don’t think it’s a slam dunk series. I really don’t. I The Blue Jays have had something special the whole way they took care of business with the Yankees. really didn’t blink. And they have George Springer who is playing as good a ball as any. And it looks like they’re about to get Bo Bashette back. And Vlad Guerrero Jr. had one of the best postseason series that we’ve seen all year. I I still think I’m going to lean Dodgers just because of that experience. And the Blue Jays, you know, they used a bunch of pitching last night and that that team’s got to be getting gassed and the Dodgers have kind of walked here. But I just I’m not counting the Blue Jays out of this series. I I think I keep I keep seeing Dodgers and four Dodgers. We know what team you’re on. I am. I’m counting them out. He just made it obvious they broke a game seven curse wearing Austin Matthews. So, we’ll see what takes place. The Dodgers might ruin baseball. Who knows? They might. They might. I don’t know. Well, thank you for picking a team even though he tried to be biased and guide you in which direction to go in. Matt, as always, it is an absolute pleasure to have you join us here on Boston is enter the chat. Make sure you guys let us know your thoughts, not only on the World Series, but offseason potentials for the Red Sox. 6177900928. On the other side, we talk some football and broken records. So, don’t go anywhere. Stick with us here on Boston. The chat. All right. Records were broken all weekend long. And as you can see here, another record broken at Curry College. 522 yards, seven touchdowns. What? Boston has entered the chat, but Monty Quinn himself has entered the chat. Monty, yeah, you had a career day, my man. Seven touchdowns, 522 yards. What’d you eat that morning to get you going, man? All I basically had was um fruit. That’s passed out. Are you kidding? A career day though, man. Talk about the day. And when did you realize I’m going to run all over this team? Um I realized that during halftime, probably like the third quarter when they um still had five men in the box and then they had three safeties up high. So I guess they was a scared um scared of the pass game. So our intentions was just to run over. I’m sorry. Nicholls College, uh we need to talk to that coach. What were you thinking? This kid’s running all over you and you got five men in the box. Like how disrespectful are you? Did you feel a sense of like be honest with it, it’s just us talking here. Did you feel disrespected? I know I would. I’ve cooked you for an entire half and you still have five men. How dare you? Were you disrespected by this? Uh yeah. Yes, sir. I figured well to go off of what he said cuz you mentioned the third quarter kind of like seeing that uh the fear rise in your opponent, but Travis said it. You were cooking in the entire first half. like what were you feeling in terms of like this is an opportunity to just keep building and be able to run successfully versus this team number one and then be a leader for your team number two. Um like my coaches said um as of right now we a five and five team so everybody in the conference like they underestimate us. We the underdor um coming out of every game that we played. So um the coach just put more energy in my back. Um he told me that the same time last year um I guess the conference had like a meeting and I guess Nicholls was like a team that didn’t vote me for like MVP and left me out. So I kind of felt a little disrespected and that gave me more energy just to unleash the beast early. Yeah. Well Monty uh NCAA record by the way let’s put respect on your name Monty Quinn. Uh tell us a little bit about your story, where you came from, and Curry College has put out some great performances, not just in football. Uh a hockey goalender had 98 saves. Goodness. You know, this is NCAA record-breaking. Uh tell us about your story, man. And uh how does it feel to see your name as a record breaker? Um so starting off, I was born and raised in New York. Um football really wasn’t my first sport. I usually play like baseball, basketball, golf. like I like to play a lot of a lot of sports. Um, football came into my life around like 12, 13. I played flag mostly all my life. Then that’s why I made the switch to tackle and I played for the Harlem Jets. Shout out to Coach Ali. He was the one that put me in the pads first. Um, told me all the running back stuff and always believed in me. Then that’s when I made my move to Cardinal Hayes. I played there for two years. I played my sophomore and my junior year there, but my junior year it was co and we did seven on sevens and quarantine really messed up everything in my eligibility. So that’s when I made the move to South Carolina and I feel like that was the best move I ever made because it was a great environment. Um down there they show a lot of love and they take um football way more seriously than um New York does. But how did you end up at Curry? I need to know that story because I I mean, listen, you’re breaking records. You’re putting them on the map big time. Tell us about how you ended up there and why and why you like going to that school that you’re at now. Um, that’s a good question. I really wasn’t thinking about going to um college. I really wanted to go to the military cuz I got a lot of family members there. And my father, he was just scrolling on in no Twitter and he came across a lot of schools like trying to reach me and he seen Curry College had like a track. Well, it wasn’t really a track. It was a cross country team and I ran track my um senior year. So, I fell in love I fell in love with track and I guess co coach Parsons and my father had like a communication like they had um a little conversation about me attending Curry College. And at first I was a little iffy about it because they didn’t have track, but then my father just told me to give it a chance. So I took the chance. And the reason why um I like Curry College cuz everybody here, it’s a small community and all they do is show love. The football team, that’s family right there. Y without them I probably would never broke any records that I have here till this day, man. Well, listen, you’re getting love here from Boston has entered the chat. So, please keep breaking records, whatever you do. I like your story a lot, but you know this cuz we talked a little bit off camera. I need that scouting report about your game because I’ll tell you what I see. We have highlights of of all these runs you did in this record-breaking performance, but I’ll tell you what I see. I see a kid that has wiggle jukes. You get out in the open field, forget it. It’s over. The high top end speed out in the open field stands out to me. Once you get past that first level or two, you sir are gone. give me a scouting report on your own game. Um, so as you see that play right there, um, like matter fact, I’m going to go to this play. Um, this play right here, I know it was it was um, like it was foreign to be an inside run, but I seen how the um, linebackers cheated more, so I knew I had the opportunity to beat the um, outside linebacker outside. this play right here. I know. Um I watch film the safeties, they come down with their head down and that’s gonna be like a danger that’s a dangerous game right there. This play right here, I know um a lot of team do it, but they don’t finish the tackle. So, I just took the opportunity and broke off and scored. This one right here. You just ran by everybody. Yeah. over and over and over. Were they giving you high fives, bro, during these the other team? Yeah, they was giving me my my flowers. Of course they were. Well, clearly you do very well at spotting opportunity and finding an opportunity to be a part of Curry’s uh is working successfully for you. Now, Curry’s off to one of their better starts since 2017. What’s it like for you to be a part of that turnaround? I mean, you’re leading when it comes to rushing and you’re making it look easy. We just watched the tape with you. Yeah. Um, I feel like he’s just blessed, but we still got we still can’t get complacent. Um, we taking everything one step at a one step at a time, just like this week. Um, I know we facing Western New England, it’s going to be a struggle. They, um, always have great defense and, great offense. So, we just going to prepare oursel for the best. We’re going to, um, work like how we always do every um, every practice and we’re going to execute on um, Saturday like how we always did. Monty, what’s next, man? Are you senior now? What are you going to continue to play ball? What’s next for you? Can you play for the Patriots on Sunday? Sorry. Can you hang on to the ball? They’ll use you, bro. Yeah. Um, what’s next? That’s the That’s the goal. But, um, I still have a lot more to prove and I still have a lot more to work on. Bro, you passed I’m looking at some of these names. You passed Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk. Like, have you really, Monty, it’s just us talking here. Have you sat sat down and thought, damn, like I’m in some rarified air here? Like you you’ve passed all these guys in terms of breaking this record. Have you thought about that? Is that set into you yet? It still hasn’t set in yet. Um like I said in the past few interviews, um I’m a humble person, so it’s going to take time for me to like to actually understand what I did. I just love the game of football. So I’m going just keep striving for greatness. Hey, we love to watch guys that love the game. That’s for sure. Uh when you start breaking records or when you know that you’re a pivotal part of a team, does that change your goals at all? It doesn’t have to be personal, but maybe now the scope on life just broaden for you. Uh any new goals that have jumped off for you? Um I know the goal coming into the season was getting 2,000 rushing yards. Now that I’m close to it, um I probably go I’ll probably shoot for the stars now. I know um another goal was to obviously win a um conference championship and as looks of it we on the road to um potentially playing for the conference championship but another goal is probably break another school record early. I know I’m close to I think breaking a touchdown record rushing. Okay. Yeah. Yes, sir. Man, we will clip this for you and hold it so that when you do reach those goals, uh, we can continue to bring you back here on Boston the chat. No doubt, Monty. We appreciate you, man. Thanks for getting up early with us, man. And keep breaking records. We’ll have you back on the next time you do it. Yes, sir. Thank you. It’s a pleasure. All right. Appreciate it. Hey, and thank all of you for watching. Boston has entered the chat. That’s it for us here on Nest. And remember, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m., but the party continues on Ness Nation.
