The new TGL season gets underway in December. And it’s going to look a little different…

Season 2 of TGL is fast approaching and it promises to be bigger than before.

The brains behind the tech-infused venture have announced several changes from the inaugural season and they definitely look like a step up.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the first match on December 28…

The green is bigger

Some of the criticism from the first season centred on the green and its surrounding area. So that has been taken on board and acted upon.

The result is a green that is 38% larger, making it more like the standard size of PGA Tour greens.

The slopes on the green have also been softened. It was felt they were on the harsh side in the first season, and when coupled with the difficulty in reading the break under the bright lights, it meant there were more missed putts than would have been ideal.

These alterations mean there are now 12 hole locations, up from seven, and players should be able to hit the green more often and have a better chance of holing the resultant putt. Fans want birdies and eagles, so that’s what the organizers are trying to give them.

Around the green

It’s all change here, too. The slopes have also been reduced by 40%, which is hoped will allow for a greater variety of shots to be played, while it will also give long approach shots a chance to chase onto the green.

Finally, there are now two bunkers instead of three. But the ones that have been kept have been made 50% larger and now feature riveted faces. Don’t get too excited by that last part, they still look nothing like links bunkers.

Updated graphics

This is a big one. Given they have a 53-foot screen at their disposal, it was hard not to be a bit blown away by the enormity of it all when the TGL finally debuted. But when that had worn off, the graphics on the screen were a bit on the dull side.

The difference for this season, though, is staggering. With Full Swing, the game engine software has been upgraded, so expect far more realistic and high-definition visuals this time around.

New for Season 2, there will be an official Team Hole for each team. Six of the established holes have been changed and updated with a flavor of each team’s local city added to make them stand out.

Front and back boxes

While it’s not going to grab any headlines, the hitting area for players has been made bigger. As have the sand trays, which allows for a larger bunker lip that can be raised or lowered to alter the difficulty of fairway bunker shots.

Improved fan experience

The green being 18 inches lower and the reduced slopes will make it easier for fans in the arena to see the action unfold.

And as well as that, two tracing towers have been removed, with camera sensors relocated in the ceiling. All this should help make it a more immersive experience for fans inside the SoFi Center. Now we just need them to make more noise.
