Strategies for playing in the Wind. Hi, I’m Ken
Martin, PGA Member and Golf Program Instructor here at Keiser University’s College of Golf. If

So today in our nice calm simulator, we actually turned the wind up so that we’ve got a headwind of
20 miles an hour. So. If I wanted to hit the golf ball 160 to 165, typically on a calm day I’d be
hitting a seven iron, but into wind this strong, I would want to club up. In this case, I’m
actually gonna use a five iron and I’m gonna use a nine o’clock swing because that penetrating flight
will still give me the 160 to 165. The only thing I have to be aware of, of course, would be the
runout because it’s gonna be a lower flight. So, let’s give it a go nine o’clock swing with a five
iron into the wind. So, we’ll see what we end up with here. So, 162 carry. So that formula
works pretty well. So, practicing partial length swings, nine o’clock is a good, easy
one to get a feel for. You can actually just use that flight to get a carry distance that you
would normally get with a more lofted golf club.
