Matthew Altizer shot a 2-under-par 69 as the individual gold medalist and his teammate Gaston Wimmer shot a 1-over-par 72 as the runner-up to lead Auburn to the Class 1 state team golf championship at Hobbs Hole Golf Course in Tappahannock on Monday, October 13.

After going unbeaten through the season to claim both the Northern Neck District and Region 1A championship, Lancaster finished third in the state round, despite shooting a stroke lower as a team than it did two weeks ago in the regional tournament.

Auburn’s four scorers combined for a 17-over-par 301 for the state title. Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy was 31-over-par for a team score of 315 as the runner-up. Lancaster’s four scorers shot a 327 for third. George Wythe was fourth, 331; Holston fifth, 349; Northumberland sixth, 350; Chilhowie seventh, 352, and William Campbell eighth, 356.
