Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) tied for 12th place to lead the Le Moyne College women’s golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Le Moyne Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-71, 5897-yard Bellevue Country Club.
UAlbany won the team title with a two-day total of 644 off rounds of 324 and 320. Siena University recorded a 27-shot improvement on the second day to take second place with a total of 653 after scores of 340 and 313. Fairfield University placed third at 654 following rounds of 338 and 316. The Dolphins posted rounds of 341 and 336 to place sixth at 677. Fairfield’s Sofia Nogato defeated UAlbany’s Lucia Esteban in a playoff to earn medalist honors after each recorded a 157 over 36 holes.
Cafarella finished in a three-way tie for 12th in the 60-player field with total of 165, which included one birdie and 16 pars. She opened with a 79, featuring one birdie and nine pars, to land in third place after the first round. She recorded an 86 on the second day, including seven pars.
Sophomore Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) landed in a six-way tie for 16th with a 167, which featured two birdies and 15 pars. She was in a three-way tie for 18th after an 86 in the first round, which included eight pars. She moved up two spots on Tuesday with an 81, which featured two birdies and seven pars.
Freshman Elizabeth Holden (Clinton, Maine/Lawrence) placed 29th with a 171, including one birdie and 14 pars. She tallied an 87 on Monday, featuring seven pars, to land in a five-way tie for 21st place. She registered an 84 in the second round, which included one birdie and seven more pars.
Senior Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) finished in a three-way tie for 32nd at 174, featuring one birdie and 10 pars. She opened with an 89, which included four pars, to land in a four-way tie for 30th. She followed with an 85, featuring a birdie on her first hole and six pars.
Freshman Caroline McShea (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) landed in a three-way tie for 35th at 175, which included 11 pars. She joined Stuver in the first-round tie for 30th with an 89, which featured three pars. She recorded eight pars en route to an 85 on Tuesday.
The Dolphins return to action in the Spring semester at Stetson University’s Babs Steffens Invitational on February 23 and 24 at Debary Country Club in DeBary, Florida.
