Just an Average Golfer giving unbiased opinions on all things golf, product tests, Golf travel vlogs and golf news!

we’ve seen the title of the video you know what’s coming it’s a good oldfashioned head-to-head and I think these are two of the most popular drivers of 2024 the question is how do they perform in the hands of the average golfer and which one comes out on top and it could well be that the result of that test is determined right here indoors at hollywell golf club trackman data the numbers are behind me I’m going to hide that for the time being cuz when I really want to know is two things how do each of these perform how do they differ but maybe more importantly are they any different than any other driver I’ve tested so far or is it just more of the same [Music] that’s the first ball out on the fairways it not only sounded fantastic the ball fight was superb and I’ve got to say I’ve recorded data that’s going to reveal why this driver is a real interesting product that’s a GT2 from tight list but the question is is it any better than what is already out there and in this case that ping g430 10K Max and on those two shots there doesn’t seem a great deal to split them but there is certainly a very different sound off the two and I know which one I prefer it’s a solid ball you know I haven’t missed a drive with the uh tight list product out on the fairways seems to really fire off the face just leaked that one a tad it’s done really well though again all speeds off these drivers are both very very good so if you’re spending £500 on a driver I don’t care what anybody says you want it to look good and from a looks perspective I think that the titless new lineup is and has been for the last couple of years it’s moved on quite a bit and it looks superb arguably one of the best looking drivers on the marketplace right now in terms of both shelf appeal in terms of what you see underneath but then from the crown again although I would always prefer a MATC Crown I’ve never been a fan of turbulators and not overly Keen with the way the Ping product looks at a dress so for me hands down this uh titless model is a clear winner on those visible Stakes and although only a very minor issue tit List have absolutely smashed it with their head cover they’ve up the anti the quality on that is as it should be when you’re spending 500 quid and I’m afraid ping they’re really going to have to up their game on the next lineup of these drivers because it’s uh it’s ill-fitting and just not that good just to clear up uh shaft which is hugely important in my opinion uh deny 55 G uh reg is what I’m using the titless driver and I’m using the CB Al uh 55 R in that ping and I think for me and I’ll discuss it in the summary is that is one key thing that you have to get right forget Moi shaft head combination is what is hugely important for control down that Fairway in terms of dispersion that’s tight list again and what’s been really interesting with the titless driver is the ball flight has been extremely straight it’s been no deviation in ball flight either left to right right to left it just felt solid and uh it doesn’t make all the claims in terms of Moi but it’s certainly the product that uh I found easiest to keep square and therefore hit straight it’s another Super Ball drilled in slightly lower and again a little bit louder the sound off the Ping and like I said I’ve always had an issue with the sound of ping drivers it’s definitely been uh done down considerably with this model but if I was choosing between the two from a sound perspective I prefer what comes off of the tight this product but I reckon if you wear up Fairway and obviously we’re going have a look now there’s very little to split those two in terms of where they finish right so it four balls with each out on the fairways I think I ate 10 11 balls with each inside so I’ve got a fair reflection in both terms of dry ball data and realterm what they’ve done outside so the first question is what separates them well in dry ball data as you can see very little um and they’re both pretty much optimal numbers as well on the day I tested which was yesterday swing speed was slower perhaps relative to what I would hit out on the golf course and if you have a look at all those parameters spin launch uh carry distances they’re all Optimum for my swing speed which is on the day with think was sort of around the 92 mph so they’ve got there in slightly different ways but ultimately you know nothing to split them and then you come out on the fairways and what you’ve not seen is where each driver sort of landed or finished but what I can tell you and I’m looking forward now is that every ball has finished in virtually the identical place so there’s nothing to split them at all in terms of performance in my opinion um there is no clear winner far from it they’re just down to personal preferences what I will see is one of the biggest myth in my opinion um or misleading can be thisi I don’t think that there’s any great claim from titlist about their Moi with the GT2 driver and obviously the 10K is a big deal in what Ping are playing on but all I have never seen a if you hit a bad swing you you’ll have bad results it’s as simple as that and I’ve not found a driver yet that’s made massive difference in terms of this highi what I will do feel is that you have to match the shaft to the Head components correctly if you don’t get that bit right that suits your swing that’s when you’re going to have issues so it comes back to custom fit in uring if you’re looking at dispersion and I’ll throw in now just the internal stuff that we did on trackman you’ll see I was leaking the ball down the right a little bit uh with both clubs so neither help me in terms of hitting the ball straight well that’s all down to my personal uh swing characteristics and performance so I hope it has helped it’s help me in some ways I’m a big fan of this GT2 driver because it performs incredibly well looks really good sounds really good but ultimately it performs exactly the same as the Ping driver as well but I choose one over the other because of the reasons I’ve just stated and you might do the exact opposite the key is always the same go and get custom fit make sure it works for you but ultimately two very very good drivers that will perform really well in the hands of most average golfers right that’s me done thanks for watching I’ll see you all soon [Music] [Music]

  1. Great video Andy! What are the shaft specs and head loft for the Ping driver you used? You listed the GT2 details but didn’t see the Ping driver details.

  2. After playing the cobra f9 for a few years bought the Aerojet and swapped and changed both shafts and drivers out on the course and found the total distance was the same and the the F9 was slightly easier to draw the ball with the Aerojet being slightly more fadey for me, I don’t think the big manufacturers can get that much more out of them now within the restrictions to be honest..

  3. recently compared these 2 also, agree w most of your review… i play the Ping tour Reg as I feel its much more stable than the alta, agree? no? i also found them bout the same as it was more on me than the clubs, I agree g2 feels and looks better BUT I love the flat setting and feel ping is a "little" more forgiving on my misses. these 2 were my top 2 but only 2-4 yards longer than my ping g400max gamer (tour reg) so i saved $600, cheers f AZ!

  4. Can't agree more regarding finding the head and shaft combo that works best for the individual player.

  5. I don’t know about the titleist but the 10K is slightly fade bias….might be why you hit everything right.

  6. I have the 10K ( my handicap is 13) . If you are going to get one, order stiff shaft even if your usual shaft is regular.
Everything went right before I changed to a stiff, and I have used regular shafts all my life

  7. You are bang on, I’ve had the ping G430 and the 10K and both leaked left, I’m a leftie. I’m now hitting a second hand stealth2 HD and wouldn’t go back

  8. At my fitting the Titlest just felt dead and to be honest the Ping 10k wasn't much better, however the standard Ping G430 max was another matter, great feel and sound and the distance and dispersion was the the best of all the drivers i tried, quite a close second was the Cobra darkspeed which seems to be much overlooked by testers

  9. Great videos. You have a very pleasant demeanor. So nice to see the UK country side, I live in the north central United States. I also follow a fellow in the UK who tent camps in the Peak District and Lake District, very lush landscape. Fun to see the sheep in the fields and near the golf courses !!!! I'm lucky if I see a deer or two here.

Fabulous achievement to be breaking below 80. Great work !!! I don't even keep score any more. I only pick up a scorecard when I am at new course to see where I am supposed to go.

  10. I think I agree with the masses in here, driver tech is maxed… cheaper used drivers and newer previous models is the way to go. Id love to see more reviews on bargain equipment that stands up to these over priced newer equipment

  11. Love your content! Long time subscriber. In your opinion, I have the AI smoke max now. How would the GT2 fair against the AI max? I love the classic Titleist looks and sound

  12. Another great comparison video Andy. I was fitted for the GT2 a few weeks ago at Titleist Craigielaw. For me it was just a natural progression from the Titleist TS, TSi and TSR drivers I had before. I do think it’s easier to hit than my old TSR2 and I’m happy with the results. Also had a fitting for the Qi10 and liked that, but went with the Titleist because it had the slight edge for me and also because I know it will be into summer 2026 before a replacement is released; whereas with the TaylorMade a new model might be available in spring 2025.

  13. Hi Andy! I know everybody talks about custom fitting but when you’re paying over £500 for a new driver can you justify an upgraded shaft unless it comes free at the checkout ! I personally have been fitted on quite a few occasions and not nearly enough emphasis has been pointed out on shaft selection. It usually ends up with what shaft do you have in your gamer and build around that. If my old driver was working ok and I was hitting fairways then I wouldn’t be looking for a new one in the first place ! 🤷‍♂️if it ain’t broke don’t fix it !

  14. head, shaft and adjustable weights to get the optimum fit. You can only get that done with a good fitter who has a good range of brands.

  15. I found the 10k to be spiny for me but the GT2 was way lower. Strange. I went with the GT.

  16. Well, I am (still) using my trusty 2017 T'Made M1 with a Tensei shaft. I mostly use the 460cc version but I also have the 440cc with a ProLaunch shaft. The 460 gets me in the fairway, the 440 gets me a few more yards. The feeling off the face of both is still terrific.

  17. Great video. The peak height looked higher with the Ping yeah? I'd have thought over time that would be helpful

  18. I just picked up a TSR2 driver with a Ventus Velocore shaft for $360 thanks to the GT2 lol😅

  19. Totally agree on the custom fit. Got fit for a PXG 0211 driver two years ago. The fitter nailed it with a shaft I never thought I’d use. I play stiff shafts in all my clubs but came away with a 12 degree head and a regular shaft. Best driver for accuracy and distance I’ve ever owned. Due to the fit. All for £199. There’s not one £500 driver on the market that I believe would give me the gains to warrant the upgrade.

  20. Who cares what the clubs sounds like or looks like. If it helps my game, then it's in the bag. I feel like only youtubers care about the Sound and looks. NO ONE has ever walked up to me and commented on my clubs. EVER.

  21. Great Video. Thankyou. I'm looking to get a set soon. I am trying to decide between the Titleist and the Ping as I feel both are great for what I'm looking for. Personally I like the looks of the Ping with it's flat black and accent colours. I'm just not a fan of the shiny black of the Titleist.

  22. I switched from Titleist to the ping G430 max. Having been in Titleist player for the last 20 years and never trying to ping driver before I was really impressed. The GT2 is great but the numbers didn’t wow me which was disappointing.

  23. My ping G430 max 10k is very forgiving with the stock shaft at 60grams, its a fairway finder my avg is 310 yds

  24. I got fitted for a titleist GT3, which surprised me. I still think i want to pay the extra for a ventus blue 60g shaft tho. Fitter said come back in the spring and see then. He is probably right.

  25. Andy, I would really like to see a head to head between, say, a 2019 driver (eg a Cobra F9) & a 2024 driver (Ping g430 max).
    Has technology improved that much?
    Should I change??!!!

  26. The Denali shaft you & I hit felt great, almost amazing for distance but looked like it fell out of the sky like a wounded duck. Can you tell me about your apparently good experience vs my good but fall out of the sky experience with GT2 Denali. The Ping G430 K was like swinging a flying pan. BTW I bought the GT2 9* Tensei 1K Blue R shaft to compliment my gamer TSR2.

  27. You compare drivers when you're miss hitting one .. had a ping G425 max driver bought the 10k max driver miles apart gained 20 to 25 yards easily. Brilliant club
