LĪHU’E, Kaua’i – The University of Hawai’i women’s golf team completed the first round of the 28th Rainbow Wahine Invitational with a 304 Monday at the Ocean Course at Hokuala.
The Rainbow Wahine currently sits in 16th place among the field which is led by 15th-ranked Baylor’s 9-under 279 followed closely by Santa Clara (280), who is one stroke back.
UH is led by Jasmine Wong, who carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 40th place. Maline Kraus shot 4-over 76 and is tied for 70th while Chloe Ku and Emiko Sverduk each posted 77 and are tied for 81st. Rounding out the team is freshman Kaydence Kim, who shot 80 and is tied for 103rd.
Three other Rainbow Wahine are competing as individuals – Varnika S. Achanta (73, t-29th), Sofina Firouzi (75, t-57th), and Wendy Song (82, 108th).
Baylor’s Yurang Li and San Diego State’s Ema Narita share the lead at 5-under 67 while a group of three golfers are one stroke back.
Round 2 is scheduled for Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m., shotgun start.
