L A B the hottest three letters in golf over the last few years. Lab putters, let’s be honest, have absolutely smashed out of the park. Uh from going huge size, alien looking spaceship type of putter that kind of works and each iteration seems to be getting better and better, keeping the technology of live angle balanced, however, making them look better. Now, this one I reviewed a few months ago. This is the Oz.1i. Very good putter. However, again, criticism over these putters is where the shaft actually enters the head. They’ve now brought out this. This is the Lab Golf Oz.1 I HS. They’ve running out of letters and numbers here, guys. This is the heel shafted version. All the technology of the Oz, however, visually looks very, very different. and I personally think will be way more appealing for the mass amount of golfers. This is a clever design. It really is. So, where this shaft kind of actually enters the head is in the heel. However, if you were to continue that line through, think about the shaft is going through, it enters the middle back part of the head like the original Oz.1i. Now, the whole reason for that is you want this lab is light angle balanced. So, it’s perfectly balanced. It’s zero torque. So many of companies now have have I was going to say stolen, it’s the wrong word, have been inspired by this design and are making their own zero torque putters. Um, price-wise £499. It’s still eye wateringly expensive for a putter. People pay it for a driver, but for a putter, I mean, people are buying them, but it always surprised me. However, it is the most used club in your bag. Use it at least twice on every green and you pay more money to use it less times. It’s 100% milled aluminum body with milled stainless steel face. So this insert is slightly firmer feel. It’s got that kind of forward shaft lean still. So again where the shaft’s going in, it’s got a forward shaft lean and interesting it’s got a Diamana putter shaft. This kind of lightweight graphite Diamana make great shafts for drivers and fairway woods etc. They’ve also used it in this putter shaft. I think again that’s to eliminate the torque in the putter shaft. Superstroke grip. This is now a collaboration line with Lab Golf and Superstroke. So it’s a Tor 2.0. And on that as well, just on that shaft, there are a lot of different shaft options. We actually just ordered it in this Diamana shaft. In fact, there’s lots of customized options. You can have a different sight line. You can have different lines here at the back. Personally for me, I prefer the look of this shaft. what looks like it’s going into the heel. Albeit if you continue it’s going into the back of the head. I prefer visually how this looks. This is to me so far the best looking lab putter they’ve ever made. I’ve just got an ongoing concern with lab putters though. I’m going to hit a few more and I’m going to talk about this. I’ve still got this kind of ongoing concern that I think there’s a fundament fundamental error in these zero torque putters. That was really nice. Not bad. Just going to hear a few more and I’m going to talk a little bit about my concerns about these zero torque putters. Come on. I need to box three in a row at least. That was nasty lip out. Go in the hole, please. Does kind of back up my fear with uh with lab putters. Come on, Rick. I’ve got a hole three in a row. There’s one import really really important thing you’ve got to concentrate on these putters. Like there’s one imperative um focus point you’ve got to have. Let me hit these and and I’m going to really focus on it. Come on. And I’ll tell you what that is in a minute. Come on. Really focus on one main point. That’s good. Perfect. It’s in the hole. Okay. Just missed. Come on. Focus again. Think about where you’re hitting it. Yeah, that’s good. It’s in the hole. Oh, go in the hole. Come on. One more. I don’t like these style of putters. And I’ll be honest, when I first discovered this finding for my own, I thought there’s something. Why is everyone raving about lab? and I was almost getting kind of tied up into it. I personally think unless you hit the exact middle location on the putter, unless you absolutely hit the sweet spot, I think these putters almost twist too much. I think anything you hit from the toe or the heel because you’re hitting around that centered spot, I almost feel like the face is almost twisting. I can’t get that out of my head. Like I reviewed the Oz a couple of versions ago now. I can’t quite remember his name. And in the studio, I absolutely loved it. I took it out on the golf course for the first time. I hit a few first few putts on the putting ground. I was like, I don’t think I can use that putter. Now, that’s more of a reflection on me. I don’t think I hit the middle of the putter face as much as I should. And I would consider myself a good putter. I think I hit the toe and the heel on my normal putter a lot. But because I’m pretty good at keeping the face square, some of the puts have more of a chance of going in. I feel like if you hit the middle of this putter, it is like a secret weapon. It’s like an automatic putter. Anything off center for me just twists. That might just be me, but it just feels like it moves open and shut way too much and I can’t over those three putts then I’m so focused on hitting the middle. I’m almost forgetting everything else. With that being said, let’s do the ladder drill and let’s see how far it can go. What’s interesting, I actually got told about a video online recently. Phil Kenyon did and he was talking obviously one of the best putting coach in the world if not the best putting coach in the world and he was talking about this kind of zero torque lie angle balance putters he said they work for a certain amount of people but just not for everybody and all these different whether it’s toe hang face balance zero torque all these other things just more options for different types of golfers and different types of strokes I just don’t it just for me it just doesn’t I can’t seem to make it work all that being said this is the best looking version. If I was to use any of them from a visual standpoint, this would be the one I’m choosing. With all that being said, let’s see how far I can go on the ladder drill. Cuz at the moment, the smaller lab has the record of going all the way back and missing on the very last shot. It’s almost like I’m scared of the putter slightly. I’m almost scared of not hitting the middle. Makes me quite tentative. So far so good though. Right in the middle. I might be taking everything I’ve said back. Can’t miss. 12 ft for for a spell there like when you are striking the middle of this putter. There is not a better putter on the planet. There’s not a better brand on the planet. It’s so unbelievably stable. I’m just in my experience. I find that anything off center, I just hate how much it twists. Guys, thanks for watching. Stay tuned. Lots more to come. They’re making strides in the right direction, certainly from a look standpoint, yet still maintaining the same technology story, which is incredible to do. Guys, thanks for watching. Stay tuned. Lots more to come. Be sure to subscribe to hit and we’ll see you next time.

  1. That putting sueface isnt perfect… most miss's arent your fault… on the 15 feet putt your ball goes on line first 12 then vires off…. like comon

  2. I will say, I think you do have to modify your stroke a little bit with LAB. I've found being more over the ball prevents the twisting. In my experience, the twisting is more from your hands using a more traditional putting stroke and instinctively adding a little arc. But when standing more over the ball and more forward in the stance, that ball is straight pretty much anywhere you hit it. I've NEVER felt more confident on the greens since switching to OZ.1!

  3. Really hard to take these putter reviews seriously with how bad that mat is, and has been for a while. Maybe try aiming a cup right and these will all go in? Haha.

Also, your insistence that these putters turn a lot when hitting off center is nuts. First of all, they are extremely high MOI putters, so it doesn't make sense to begin with. Also, how far off center are you hitting? Science has proven that 1 cm off center with a putter only causes 1% deviation in speed or left/right miss (great interview recently on NLU Podcast about this).

No half way decent putter is missing the center of the clubface by far enough to matter on more than like 1 out of 100 putts.

This is all in your head, and likely caused by your horrendous putting mat in the studio.

Love the videos and the channel, but the putter reviews have been really off. Glad to hear it's being fixed. You should probably reshoot some putter videos after that's fixed. I honestly doubt that the trusty Ping performs well on that thing either, unless you are subconsciously pushing everything to counter the break on this "straight" putt.

  4. I have bought over 30 putters over the last 30 years of playing golf, and I cannot remember a putter that feels good when hit off center. I have been Rick's fan for a long time, but I think he is biased a bit here. I recently bought df3 putter and I don't think I will buy another putter in my life.

  5. I'm no expert, but seems when you take the club further back in your swing because you are further away, it gives much more chance for you to bring it back off centre. Not everyone is a robot so makes sense to me. Good honest review!

  6. My handicap has gone down 4 since buying a LAB, I’ve been through lots of putters including getting them fitted and nothing has come close to the consistency I’ve found, worth every penny, my driver cost more after fitting and I got hardly any improvement in my handicap

  7. : ) I'm confused with concept Rick …… > Putter — Ya use at least 2x on every green!?! What? : ) Be Safe
