Gleneagles: Where championship golf meets pure Scottish luxury.

Is this the best golf resort in the world? I am of course talking about Glenn Eagles up in Scotland. And I recently took a 3-day trip that involved a short flight from London Gatwick, a 45minute transfer from Edinburgh airport. And this is what greeted us. Absolutely stunning. Now, our first round of golf was on the PGA Centiner course. It’s a Jack Nicholas design and it played host to the 2014 Ryder Cup and 2019 Soulheim Cup. That’s me having a go at the third hole. Uh, it really is stunning with all the gor out especially. It’s as pretty as a picture, but you will need to have your ball striking with you if you want a good score. After golf, it was back to the hotel. Hopefully, as this little clip shows you, it really is the lap of luxury. Now, the next morning, we were up early to have a go at the King’s Course. Uh, this is what greets you on the first te. It’s one of the best first TE’s I can remember. It’s a James Braid design, and it was opened in 1919. Uh, and it really does offer a perfectly balanced test of golf. Yes, you’ll have to strike the ball well, but you’ll also need a good short game because the greens are big and they are fairly quick, too. Uh, here I am having a go at the par 316th slightly left, but it’s all right. I played okay and I did get to enjoy a nice Bloody Mary at one point during the round. Something I can’t say I’ve ever done before on the golf course. Um, after golf, we had time for some fly fishing. I actually even managed to catch a trout, albeit briefly. Then it was time for some falconry. We got hands-on with some Harris hawks which is a really special part of the trip actually. And then after that we had a go at ax throwing and even I managed to hit the bullseye. Uh just the ones though. After that we had dinner back at the hotel and look at this. This is the Strathn restaurant and hopefully as the images show you the food was simply spectacular. The next morning we had a go at some shooting. This is the shooting lodge and um here I am having a go at clay pigeon shooting. Yes, got the first clay. Well done me. Can I get the second one? No. Uh, and then after that it was time to have a go at the Queen’s course. Uh, James Braid, Just Like the Kings, opened in 1919, Just Like the Kings, but it’s a very different test of golf. It’s slightly shorter and it’s very strategic. It’s one that I really, really enjoyed. And there was time for some strawberries and cream while we were out on the golf course. Oh, and let’s not forget a glass of champagne, too. I wasn’t missing out on that. So, there you have it. Glenn Eagles. Three very different courses that offer three different very different tests all in the lap of luxury. Is it the best golf resort in the world?
