Club golf player finishes through his swing in the oct 11th tournament at Muskego
As an opportunity for a lesser-known club sport to gain recognition, demonstrate its competitiveness and showcase its sportsmanship, a series of regional tournaments were hosted by numerous golf teams from all over Wisconsin. The Whitewater men’s club golf team got to showcase their skills Oct. 11, 18 and 19, the team’s second and third tournaments out of four.

With a morning tee-off against Marquette and UW-Oshkosh, the pressure was felt as the men competing wanted to strive to make good shots and maintain the drive to succeed.
“This is the first competitive tournament that the men’s golf club will be doing,” club president Kade Dunham said. “We feel confident going to Muskego since we want the opportunity to get our names out there.”
Dunham’s prediction prior to the first game was to hopefully shoot above the average and maintain being one of the top teams. He hoped the entire club would be dialed in and focused to prove their strength.
“I am a senior this year, and I am glad that the club gets to show off its competitive side while being back in the field of golfing with the hopes of reaching our full competitiveness,” club vice president Braedon Vollmer said.
Vollmer described how he has been practicing a lot in his free time whenever the weather is in his favor. His prediction prior to tee-off was for the team to win the whole tournament. Through this tournament, he was hoping to get his foot in the door of the golf industry by building a good reputation, showing off the club’s talents and representing the school in a positive manner.
“I am excited to compete in the first tournament, as a sophomore, this is a great opportunity to help further improve my skills since I was a state-qualified golfer in high school,” member Trevor Majerus said.
Majerus stated how his practice is different from his other teammates due to his packed schedule and the need to work his butt off more due to his time self-practicing. Through this experience, he hopes to put his name out there and to show who the team is and how competitive they can be.

After the first round of the competitive two-day golf tournament, they headed into a harder set of competitors: UW-Madison, Michigan Tech and Lawsonia, who are at a much higher skill level.
“The prep is going to be harder; we are having some of our team members go out and scope the playing field to see what we will be dealing with,” said Dunham prior to the tournament.
Even though the team has set a high bar from the previous tournament, they are hoping to continue to raise that bar. This tournament could be down to the wire, putting a lot of nerves in some of the players, but as long as they stay in it and stay focused, they can achieve a lot of accomplishments.
“I hope we have a top 3 finish,” Dunham said. “There will be 90 golfers in total playing this tournament. I want the team to do their best out there and prove themselves that they are able to go against the toughest components no matter the struggle.”
Dunham is very proud of the amazing start to the tournament and congratulates the A-team and the individual players who work hard during practice to perform well on the golf course.
