I know it sounds weird, Slim, but this feels like, you know, like a TV type show type moment, right? Just with the crowd. Um, obviously one-on-one at this point. You think these guys any any little nerves the first couple first couple of shots? Right. Uh, well, like I said, well, when you were moving cameras around earlier, right? Like we’ve got um there’s a lot of people here that are not bowling. They’re just here to watch, right? Like folks that uh I don’t even think we’re some of them not even watching the sweeper just now. Like they’re just rolling in the doors to I mean if I’m doing a quick count here. Three, four, eight, 12, 16. I mean there’s soft 100 people here watching. Yeah, the local crowd definitely came out. Nicely done. Nice way to open up things for uh sorry, trying to get some social media push here. Um yeah, no, so we got we got uh got the action. We got stuff cooking and uh yeah, we got some. We’re all even through one. And it’s the ever popular stone head bin. Lot of nine right there. So, uh there’s some folks of course, you know, in the chat chatting right now just about what was Kyle doing in practice and the assumption might be that he was trying to of course and really both of them, you know, trying to make sure that the the pair is as best as it can be for each individual. They both just got done bowling, right? They both just got done uh bowling the twoame sweeper. Kyle literally just won the sweeper and uh Matt Jones um he cashed in the 6:00 sweeper. Is that Jeff Krauss? That is Jeff Krauss, bro. He is here to bring He’s bringing the fun. I hear that. Yeah, it was a little too quiet. I mean, it felt felt very TVish. Yeah, I wasn’t anticipating that. Yeah, that’s a pretty good picture right there. There we go. There we go. Now we’re on the board. Now, see, I anticipated this for Matt Jones because he he is the the local favorite. Correct. He’s the local local fave. He is the Hall of Famer. He is um Jonesy. He is Hat Jones. He is Tat Jones. Um, and honestly, you know, I forgot to ask him, as I mentioned before, Kyle’s bowled some action matches, right? UBA and some stuff. I don’t know if Matt’s ever bowled an action match. He did. We actually talked about that a little bit earlier. He did say, uh, not not a ton. A little bit more when he was younger. Okay. Um, but there’s just not a ton of action matches like in this area, this side of the country. And as I mentioned, even coast to coast, right? And and when you were moving cameras, I referenced to Rudy Revs, right? Sure. Rudy made a career of man I remember and I I mentioned it ear yesterday right going to the east coast we had tour shops guys would go bowl his matches for you know a couple thousand a game 10,000 you know that’s just not a thing anymore right and um yeah so having the opportunity to get after it right here and um as we said uh Jonesy um yeah and Kyle again he’s it’s I think it’s a factf finding mission. It’s feeling out what they got cooking here um with the pair and how they break it down, right? Because we did have a short time, short turnaround as far as the lanes being oiled, then they got their practice, then they both, yeah, we’re good. We’re we’re figuring it out. Um again, what is this transition going to look like? Um urethane, plastic, other things. Yeah, I don’t know. It’s going to be interesting to see how this shakes out. And the PBA wash out 36910. He’s got the spare ball working. Got the spare ball working. He’s like, “All right, let’s let’s reevaluate. Let’s regroup here. Let’s check this out.” But he Right. He just came off a pair of nine and 10 where he was just looked like he was dead locked in. Right. Mhm. Now, he wasn’t throwing the red ball. Correct. He was throwing the correct with pitch. Uh fast pitch. Yep. which is a urethane from a few years back. Again, as we’ve talked about the just like the tournament rules, um USBC approved bowling balls. There is the fast pitch and there is a little bit of loft, a little bit of touch. So, I was just going to ask you, you know, why you what in from your opinion and certainly perspective, right, after doing what he just did with the fast pitch, why did he start with the 78U? I’m I’m guessing there was some level of strategy with that perhaps. Well, remember, this was game two when he got here, right? So, we don’t know what he did down on game one. Also, was the burn as well. They did not The A30 was not on. Yep. Yeah. So, it’s a culmination of things and obviously we’re running it fresh. I think what he was seeing, what Jonesy was seeing. Um, and maybe that’s why the thing and you think about Kyle throwing the polyester ball from out trying to stretch it a little bit faster. So, he get into like that shot right there. Little touch, little little touch, a little loft, use kind of creates some hold. Um, and again, it’s a matter of who it’s you’re pulling out the tricks, right? and and is it a thing that I’m sure Jonesy paid attention to it was watching it um thinking man I’m playing out there too why is he using plastic in that spot and you know what is that going to do for his ball reaction so and again folks this is only part of what we can see uh because we have a hand quite a few folks down here to the left of us too I don’t know if you got a camera we don’t have cameras going both ways no but this but but picture the same group right on kind of mirrored here to our left side essentially. That is what we have here. He’s got a hook. I say he sent that to the right a little bit and tickles it. Kyle switch around. Again, as you as you mentioned, the local fan favorite, he’s got uh he’s got the cheering session. I mean, Kyle has a international cheering session. Kath Kyle’s got fans worldwide. Um but yeah, there’s quite a few folks that are here in support of Matt to uh yeah, try and take down the PBA guy. Yeah, there’s a there’s a little bit of everything as you just said. Um but from the Kyle perspective, right, he he is known now certainly internationally and there are people here to watch Kyle Troop. They’re here to watch Matt Jones, but it’s not every day they get a chance to watch, you know, one of their favorite professionals live and in person in person in their hometown, you know, maybe at the home center driving distance. Correct. So, troop clean through four, fifth frame coming up again. It’s the first player to win three games gets 2500. Bang. Kyle liked that one off his hand. Um, yeah. So, and that’s what uh I just kind of shared on Instagram. That’s what I was goofing around. I’m old man. I’m struggling with trying to get that all fig out. But, um but yeah, 2500 a man they put up, right? So, yeah, the winner take all, you know. So, in total purse, it’s 5,000. But yeah, the whoever wins the the the race to three out of five is going to have an extra 2500 in the pocket. Mhm. Didn’t like that one. Got that toe tap. Okay. And it wasn’t one of those soap taps. It was like a toe tap hard. Um, meaning that he just wanted to get that knowing Kyle and and watched a bowl enough. That’s a come on, get lucky. And yeah, he’s he’s going to escape out of there with just a nine count, right? Um, so that is a favorable when you don’t do what you want and still kind of get it close and get the right thing. Uh, again, because it’s damage control, right? Again, you’re there’s multiple layers to this, right? And if you’ve ever bold action and you know he’s looking at okay well his case of yeah you want to get the three fastest get this done over with but there’s also setting up the lanes to look what does game three look like what does that transition look like and actually Jones is already making a ball change right so he went that is going to thing um from the I don’t know what the other ball was um he mentioned he might throw or or would have a double cross. Yeah, I don’t know if that I don’t know if that’s what he was throwing. I don’t know if that was it, but that looks like the 78 that just came out of the ball return. So, runs it on the spare. I think for Matt too, just the opportunity he he realizes, right, that he he said it earlier, you know, it’s not every day he gets a chance to bowl Kyle Troop and uh he broke down, he and Carl kind of broke down how this, you know, eventually kind of came about. Oh, nice. Knew, you know, Kyle was was going to bowl the tournament. Obviously wanted to keep the action match going. It’s been a part of the tournament now. Yeah. Essentially, he thought about Matt Jones, talked about it. It was actually right after Matt won the tat. And not only did he win the tat, he also won the progressive. Yeah. Tat Jones. And uh he said he so he called he called uh Carl back. You know, it was he was like, “Hey, if you need somebody or you know, trying to get an opponent, keep me in mind, right?” He won those and was like, “I’m in.” Yeah. Sign me up. You got dog. I got you. Yeah. And on the spare. Yeah. I think he’s just trying to settle in. Yeah, this this is a different um and he’s talking to himself a little bit and he he knows what’s going on again. He’s and as we talked about earlier today, he’s he’s in the Hall of Fame. You know, he he’s he knows what’s going on. He’s he knows that uh he’s not, you know, you look at it. Yeah. He’s going to try and hang close here. You never know what could happen frame to frame. And trust me, we’ve seen it. you know, even when we think that some of the uh that looks to be Yeah, I thought it was good, but start to come up. And so, again, these guys both have the rev rates and doing the thing, right? Like there’s no guarantee that you’re going to maintain a clean game rolling through here, right? So, there’s there strategy on both sides happening. Last time I saw one of these up close and in person was the inaugural year. It featured Robert Smith versus Rick Thompson Jr. Young man still clean there. Mhm. Last year uh doubles action match. I think Matt actually was involved in the doubles. Okay. Uh match last year, but obviously, you know, when you go one-on-one, it’s a little different. If you bold action and you don’t mind chatting at 10:15 Arizona or Pacific time, 12:15 a.m. tomorrow, Central time, and especially if you’re on the East Coast because that’s where action uh I won’t say it was born there, but it certainly has roots there. Mhm. Lived for a long time. I can’t confirm if it was born, but I know it’s got significant roots. Eighth frame troop. [Music] Well, another reoil, right? And uh it’s actually this pattern looking a little little grimy just like it’s been looking the first couple days here at this tournament. Show you the numbers on any shot at any time. Like I said, right, it’s it’s hanging close. And yeah, see if we can give it a run. Gives it two. Here’s a look at the numbers. Same as what we’ve been seeing. 35 ft 32.8 mil. And you notice both these guys are playing out. They’re They’re doing doing that thing. See if Jonesy gets one up on the board. Does he like it? And getting closer. Close. Oh, it just it it just tipped a little hard, right? And that’s what ultimately gets to a four pin. again it’s becau and because it’s a race to three uh you know it’s not total pin so from that perspective you know unless there was a side bet that we don’t know about you know what I’m saying could be a total pin could be a series side bet somewhere uh but from that perspective you know if Matt doesn’t win the game or whoever loses the game it’s it’s just one one L first to three is is the winner. But this one’s not over yet. Still got 189 out there for Matt Jones. All right, we have Father Carl in with us now. The founding father. Mr. Father Carl. What’s going on, gentlemen? Side of you there. Maybe it tripped it. How about that? Even the store said there should be a like eight count standing. Can we get a score correction from JJ City right there? That that one right there was, you know, the smile that that that brought about. Take another look at it. Just the slow roll on the two. Liked it. Thought maybe. Tickle tickle. Bing bong. Again, that just comes into hanging in and filling the frames to get to this point. And you look what Kyle’s done. Back to back shots. Know we can’t see the first few frames, but that was that his first strike. Yes. Oh, that’s a pretty good pitch. Answers a call. essentially like the 12-time champion on the PBA tour that he is. It’s like, oh, wait a minute. Don’t want to give the opponent any little little ins ounce of life. Pretty fun, right? Those his best shot. Well, you tell us. Is it pretty fun? You organized. I’m enjoying it. I think just we were talking about the number of fans on both sides, right? Like there’s people that were not even here earlier during the supers that have came to watch this match. Yes. So there’s definitely something to to be said to that. Yeah. If there was a way to show the crowd, you know, around the sides behind us and it’s pretty good. Well, he does have the one angle so we can see down to the right. There you go. Hey now. Oh, chirpy chirpy. That’s a Kyle uh reaction right there. That’s total That’s a total Kyle reaction. Absolutely. From the from the vantage point uh Carl, last year as we uh watch this reaction here, um last year was doubles, correct? Yes. Okay. Which Matt was a part of. Correct. Okay. I don’t remember. Kyle King versus Brett Wolf and um Andrew Kane. So, it’s local local. Yes. Okay. Now, the We know there’s $2,500 worth of action on the 11 and 12. Correct. But something is telling me that there’s a nice little dollar amount of action on the concourse. Oh, yeah. There is definitely some action in the back. And uh definitive is it like on FanDuel? Is it you have this in the casino? I didn’t I don’t know. I’m not saying you’re at the casino. Is it on the casino board? Did you see Did you check to see if you have an MGM sports book there? And I think, you know, and and maybe it was a little nervous and like we had talked about um I guess you guys had discussed it um earlier on, this is something kind of new for for Jonesy, right? Like he he had done it, you said a little bit younger days, Kyle, again, as we talked about UBA, UBA has action matches, right? And and some of those deals again, it’s whether it’s $1,000 a game. Uh sometimes it’s a loser has to buy dinner, you know, whatever, whatever that is, right? Um you know, so there’s just a different a little bit of a different mindset where you get into Okay, now there’s this is money involved, right? This is this is a thing. Yeah. No. Um you know, there’s just not a lot of action on this side of the, you know, on the West Coast, per se. Right. Gotcha. So, like for example, I grew up on Action, but I was also that was like, you know, 30 years ago, you know, when I was a teenager. And was it here locally? Yeah, it was local. But I mean, we’re talking, you know, not talking a lot, but let me put me on mute real quick. Yep. Gotcha. All right. So, that finishes game one. Carl’s going to make the announcement here. And there’s times where you’re like, “Hey, bowling $20 a game, maybe $50 a game, you know, nothing not the same as thousands like Ouch. Yeah. When you look at it, 2500. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It’s a little different. What’s the hand feel like at that point? Do you squeeze a little bit more? You know, is it is it is the arm swing as uh free flowing? Now, prying one off for a shot or a beer is a little different. Absolutely. If you are joining us for the first time and this audience continues to grow which is fantastic. We appreciate it. So, it’s the a testament to their talent level. Absolutely. And yeah, just it all just kind of helps piece the story together and that’s what makes it good, right? Yeah. And there, by the way, there’s more people showing up. There’s more and more people coming. Like I just looked over my left shoulder. There’s like 10 more people that weren’t there a couple minutes ago. So the crowd’s the crowd’s starting to pile up. We have people sitting on the front desk over the front desk. Yeah. What happened?” Bang. you know, from a fans perspective, because at the end of the day, I’m a bowling fan as well, and to have the talent at my tournament for these two gentlemen to give us an opportunity to witness this, um, it’s an honor for me to be able to host them. And uh I want to say, you know, does he like it? Probably thank you to Matt Jones and Kyle Chu for coming out and doing this for us. Um this is this is a fun exhibition. This is great. You know, you truly from the the showman perspective, right? I mean, Kyle’s great. Yep. That right. And and it’s just part of, you know, part of the game, part of his game. He talked about he hadn’t bowled. He told us this morning he hadn’t bowled um you know action truly since like Douggee Vision. Shout out to Douggee by the way. It’s not TV. Um but something like this, you know, when you’re you’re chasing a pattern and it’s only the two of you, you kind of have to watch what’s going on. Make sure you don’t miss a move. Just you need to relax just a touch more. Um and I know he’s trying to play play it cool and trying to stay relaxed. Um but you can tell there’s a little tense. there’s a little pressure and um yeah and and again I think it’s just product product of the environment and and not being in the situation um again he’s he’s talented uber talented right and um yeah I think it’s it’s going to if he could f you have to get to that spot to where you can throw one it kind of loosens the swing a little bit and then you kind of get that it kind of just releases the tension in the shoulders and it’s just like pow pow pow know, coming off the hand where you don’t feel like you have to. I think he’s feeling too critical with his hand at the bottom of the swing. Um, and again, he’s trying to feel like he’s trying to fit it in a little window. And and again, trust me, this pattern is not easy by no stretch of the words, right? Like, I mean, I don’t care who you are. I mean, we’re talking Kyle’s one of the best bowlers on the planet right now. Um, again, he’s still throwing quality shots. He He’s in a certain part of the lane. And actually, if you notice, he’s a little bit left to where Matt’s at. Mhm. And so that’s another thing too. And not helping men, I assume, at this point. Correct. Even though they’re both their throwing thing now, does it turn into is he feel like he’s trapped out there? Like cuz he knows if he tries to edge left, he’s going to see some of Kyle’s early read and then forces him to move farther left than that and he doesn’t want to do that in his head. I don’t know what those questions are. you know, just kind of the self-checklist, what’s going through his own brain right now of, you know, okay, well, if I parallel, well, that’s right on top of him. What does my ball do then? And he and we talked about it today. I mean, when he was in here in the booth talking, right, like he knows he can’t get left and it knows he’s in that, I guess the best way to say it’s kind of trapped in that zone, if you will.
