SAN MARCOS, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – Freshman Lana Yamagata and junior Zi Yu Foong took their spot in the top 10 as the UNLV women’s golf team finished Sundays opening rounds at the Jim West Challenge being hosted by Texas State at Kissing Tree Golf Club (Par 72, 6,236 yards).
REBEL ROUNDUP: Yamagata stands in a tie for eighth at 2-under 142 after a pair of 1-under 71 rounds and Foong followed up a first-round 1-under 71 with a second-round 4-under 68 to sit in a tie for 10th at 1-under 143. Joining them in the top 25 is sophomore Amber Chen (+2) in a tie for 24th following her own second-round 1-under 71. Rounding out the lineup are freshman Demi Du (+6) in a tie for 46th after also adding a 1-under 71 in the second round and freshman Yen Liu (+17) in 71st.
Behind a 7-under 281 as a team on the day’s last 18 holes, the Rebels sit in seventh place in the team standings.
DAY-ONE LEADERS: Florida State leads the 14-team field at 9-under 567 through 36 holes for a seven-shot lead over Texas A&M (-2) in second. Texas Tech’s Maja’s 7-under 137 gives her the individual lead.
UP NEXT: The tournament wraps up Monday with a shotgun start set for 6:30 a.m. PT.
