A predicament I found myself in today. The green is between the two bunkers to the left and right of the tree. Approx 70-80 yards. What’s your strategy?
So my tee shot landed perfectly behind this tree. The green is between those two bunkers. I’ve got a bunker perfectly left and another perfectly right.
Aim at the left tree and try to play my slice back into the fairway, short of the green…
Top it 30 yards…

If I can’t get over the tree I punch out to the fairway and take my medicine.

Really depends on your skill level. Safe play for most of us is punch out to the fairway and take your lumps – “never make a bad shot worse”.

Its a punch cut for me. Start it left and use a 4i to keep it low. My longer punches tend to cut so im going with what i know

The obviously answer is going out to the right. Aim at the bunker. Run it in there. Easy up and down. Left is more rough and keeps the trees in the play.

Me personally? I pick a club designed to go double that distance…like a 7 iron. I aim dead center on the tree and swing for the fences. Somehow, it’ll miss the tree entirely and only fly half the distance it should.
I don’t recommend this approach for anyone who can actually hit the ball in the intended direction or distance.

8 iron, ball back in stance. Weight slightly forward. Aim right of the tree. Slightly closed face (righty). 40-50% swing… And pray like hell for a low punch/draw.

Number 1 objective is get the ball to a place that you can make a 2 from. So id be hitting a low hook punch well out to the right and most likely into the bunker. Trying to get cute and roll it on the green is how big numbers happen.

Well I think the first thing to do is acknowledge your drive got you in trouble. Now take your medicine and punch it into the fairway. Make a good shot in and maybe, just maybe you sink a putt for par. I’d bet trying a miracle shot will cost you more strokes than bogey.
I know it ain’t fun…

Can’t see how tall the tree is but at 60-80 yards away, a sand wedge or Lobby would quite likely clear it. I play to a 30+ handicap, and from my thinking, you can probably see why.

5 iron punch with a closed face.. out to the right. If you run through the green that’s fine.
56 over the tree?
Do you like to hit a fade or draw? I’d a punch hook myself
Punch draw a 4i around right side of tree. If it’s short then I’m in fairway
Firm putt style stroke with a hybrid. It’ll surprise you
A smart person plays a pitch out right and another chip onto the green to get themself a reasonable par putt and accepts bogey
A dumb person likes me tries hit a punch hook and either hits the tree or flushes it 30 yards too far into the trees over the bunker in the right
What I would advise someone to do: pitch out to the fairway and take the L
What I would actually do: try to hit a low draw with a 5/6 and hit the tree/go into the bunker on the right/crush it into the woods behind the green.
I have a 2 iron in the bag for punch shots like this. Seldom works the way I want it to, but I have the club.
I pick whichever bunker has the the most green to work with and I play at the bunker if I get lucky awesome if not its just a bunker shot.
Pretending the tree isn’t there and hoping for the best.
Oh, I can hit through that tree easy, a light 6 iron keeps me above the trunk, but below the leaves. Or I blade it into the bunker.
Punch out, play for bogey.

Easy. Pitch out if you can’t for sure clear the tree. Then try to get up and down for par from 50-60yds. Take double out of the equation.
I am left handed so a low slicing 5 iron
Skull it into the tree having it bounce back behind you so it gives you more space to get over it.
