Seong Kim continued her march towards return to the winner circle on the LPGA tour Friday at the BMW Ladies Championship. She leads by one heading into the weekend in South Korea. I’m Adam Stanley and this is LPGA Now presented by Serpro. Let’s get into it. Kim, who is hunting for her first LPGA Tour title since 2020, fired a 6under 66 in the second round at Pine Beach Golf Links. She was one over after five holes and seemingly was stuck in neutral before turning it on late on her front nine, making three birdies in a row on numbers six, seven, and eight. She added four more birdies on the back nine, highlighted by this bomb on number 14. Tracking. Tracking. Oh, do that. Kim leads American Brooke Matthews by one. This is the second tournament in three weeks that Matthews has found herself in the mix after finishing tied for eighth at the Lote Championship, which was her first top 10 finish of the year. Matthews fired an eight under 64 in the second round, her lowest career round on the LPGA tour. This all happened despite the fact that Matthew says she didn’t feel all that great heading into this week. Yeah, it’s kind of funny. I didn’t feel very comfortable coming into this week. Um, playing China last week didn’t really have my best stuff. Even kind of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, I was feeling a little eh, but I think it just kind of made me go out there and play it shot by shot. You know, lower expectations and yeah, I feel like I just managed it really well. Just kind of stayed in the moment and yeah, ended up making some putts and racking up some good scores. Rio Teada and Hu Kim sit tied for third at 13 under, two back of Matthews and three back of Sean Kim’s lead. The round of the day belonged to Lynn Grant, who fired a 9 under 63 to zoom up 52 spots on the leaderboard. She’s tied for 11 heading into the weekend. You can follow along with all of the third round action starting at 11:00 p.m. Eastern on Friday on Golf Channel, and I will have everything you need to know in the next edition of LPGA Now, presented by Surfro.
