Was quoted 23$ per sq ft for a side yard putting green – saw my neighbors were having their putting green turf replaced and they said they paid around 5$ bc their ground work was already done and it had been 10-15 years since it was last done. Did a ton of research and figured I would try and do the dirt work myself as I can 100% dig in dirt- lay the turf meh prob will let a professional handle.
I am hoping that my efforts saved me some coin. So far I’m like 600$ in material costs
No true before photo but so far I’ve installed 2 French drain lines leading out both sides of the space. I put down 3” of drainage rock then compacted, laid, (no photo taken) weed fabric, framed the full space then put 3” of 1/4 minus DG then compacted. I’m at the point where I can create some break or a green tier.
I attached a drawing with space measurements
2 questions.
1. Is the Tier worth it? – do I also hard compact that with the plate compactor or hand tamp? Assuming a run down of 18” a 3’ round 4” tall tier is going to take up around 6’ right ? Should I just have a professional do this part?
2. Synlawn turf is at Lowe’s haven’t really come across many putting turf review videos for outdoor spaces. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m in DFW.

Get rid of the A/C so you can put in a windmill.
I love this. I’ve not seen a side yard putting green but it’s a fantastic use for the space. I’m going to have to follow you just so I can see what it’s like when it’s finished. Sorry, I have no clue about your questions!
I put in a bocce court. It was about 38’ x 11’. Quoted crazy numbers just to lay the turf. I got a 39’ x 12’ roll from turf factory direct (the rolls come in 12’ and 15’ widths, you can get any length you want). Because I’m framed in, it was important to get bocce turf as it has drainage holes, which you can’t really see. Is it perfect? No, but it looks pretty good, as do the dollars still in my pocket. The turf isn’t cheap, but it is very good quality and shipping was nominal.
Why is there a green pop up next to the downspout on the right front of your house? Might want to get that rainwater farther away from the house and putting green.
