WA PGA Final Round Highlights

Now to Jay McKenzie on the first second shot here on the par four. Fantastic approach. Perfect spot off the tea for Jay here down the right hand side. 104 playing couple of meters uphill. So 106 on a pretty aggressive line. Oh, all over the flag coming back. What a golf shot. This might even go in. That’s a kick in birdie. I tell you what, not that we expected any nerves with his attitude, but uh he’s certainly getting ready to go for it off the tease. He was aggressive off the first, aggressive here. He’s looking to make an impression. Little bit left of the pin this one. Yeah, a really good shot. Great distance control. He’s a good wedge player. I know Nick spoke yesterday about the fact that he had spent some time with See it turning in a little from right to left. Oh boy, that was all over it, wasn’t it? I was a couple of feet away from being stiff. Yeah. Finished middle of the green. Quite easy to get too aggressive and knock it over the back. That’s what he’s done. Even though it doesn’t look like a great shot after the T-shot, five won’t be a bad score. Absolutely right, Nick, as we look ahead to Will Flormo here at the sixth. Crafty little bump and run up the bank. That’s pretty good result. Going along nicely, too. Doesn’t have too far. That yellow disc is only 50 m to the front. So, about 65 70 m to the hole. I need a high spinner. He’s done that nicely. Yeah, certainly is. I’ve never actually watched him play any on the television like everyone else, but he did used to practice a little bit out of my home club in the US called Alworth as we watch Todd Sinn just Wow. That’s how you that’s how you work the short game. This is going to be his four iron. He did tell me fivewood carries 210. So, this is going to need to be a good one. Aiming it well left trying to slide it in there. That’s a good shot. Really, really good shot. As I mentioned, you got to be looking left of that flag, but it’s no easy two putt from there. Flag out. He thinks he can hold it. Oh, this is really awkward. You got to catch this absolutely perfectly with a lofted club. That’s spectacular, isn’t it? And I guess for the amateurs watching at home, a little like a longer shot. There was absolutely no steering or anything there or deceleration. That was just pure speed through the ball. Ball over it. His distance control up to that point has been great with the wedges, but perhaps getting a little fooled by the breeze. Kind of a lazy miss right. So, I would have thought he won’t be going too close to this left hand pin. Jay McKenzie take it out. Brilliant shot. Couple of wedges. He’s stiff today on three and seven. Now to Todd Sinet on the eighth. Very difficult bunker shot. Everything running away from him. It was so difficult that he held it. What a shot, Todd Senate. Goodness me. It’s a wonderful approach to get it all the way back to that flag. That’s about 10 11 ft left for his birdie. Go ahead to nine with Curtis. Beautifully done. He doesn’t have to worry about the spin. Terrific shot of the pin. So that’ll slow it down, but there’s not a lot of green long. The pin 32 paces on. So this is all of 40 m this one. And it always baffles me when you’re trying to release it so much why you use a sand wedge or or a lob wedge. Just take a look. You know, a bit of bit of bit of atmosphere around him and also try and get Jay a bit unsettled. It’s a good looking golf shot here. Yep. Not wrong. Great distance control again. And that’s right where you want to leave it. Not high enough. Or if they are part five, this might be a second shot. Superb. Obviously Todd’s been practicing those. That was a wonderful approach. Globe and you get there about the same time. Plays these with a lot of spin. Curtis luck and he plays them very well just like that one. It’s a great strike here and it’s on a great line but it needs to go and it has it crawls on the front edge. That was a big iron. I think it’s four iron trying to hit that 226 m but I’ve already scanned it. I I didn’t know about the one-on-one. Okay. No, I’m kidding. I’m kidding. Of course, someone who doesn’t need a one-on-one is Curtis Luck. Wow. What about in? Look out. Oh my goodness. Well, the camera work just does not get any better than that. Let’s go after the little bump and run again. Oh my goodness. Are you kidding me? It’s a silly game, isn’t it? That could be the best bogey we’ve seen. And it’s still game on. Let’s go. Let’s go. Austin’s taking it down the left side and just cutting it a little bit. headed towards that red dirt. Gets a good bounce forward and back onto the fairway grass. Part one of the equation complete from him. Gives himself a chance to try and put some even more pressure on his playing partner down the right hand side. Just going to depend on the first bounce [Applause] at the same time as we watch McKenzie out with his mini driver. Oh, this one is moving well to the right. Oh no, sit down. Oh, if that ball bounce keeps bouncing along the cart path, it’s out of bounds further up there. See aiming a little left trying to hit a nice high fade. Hoisting it well up in the air. This looks like it’s on a good line, too. Oh, that’s short to settle. That’s going to be tricky. Oh, come on. Come on. This could be really good. What a shot. Jay McKenzie. Yeah, this could be excellent as well. Beautifully played. That is sensational. Putting on a show. Well done. Oh no. Wow, that looked good. It was funny. The cup from that angle was actually leaning a little right. You thought it was going to straighten out, but it didn’t. On the line with this putt for Austin Batista, and his name will be etched on it. Incredible. A birdie on the last Austin Batista sealing the WA PGA Championship. [Applause]
