STANFORD, Calif. – The UCLA women’s golf team finished at +1, 285 in the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Club on Friday afternoon. They currently sit in fourth place in the 19-team field, 10 of which are top 25 ranked opponents.

Stanford, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation and tournament host, leads the field by six strokes at -13. Only two other teams, No. 3 Oregon and Arizona, were able to finish the first round under par.

Sophomore Maye Huang (-1; 70) shot a steady one under par round with a bogey-free, -2 front nine. Huang carded three birdies and one bogey. She double bogeyed the 10th hole, which played the most difficult for the field with a scoring average of 0.6 strokes over par.

Senior Meghan Royal (-1; 70) shot -3 over her final eight holes to finish as the only other Bruin to card an under-par round. Royal’s -2, 34 on the back nine tied the scoring lead for all individuals in that stretch.

Huang and Royal are two of only 22 individuals in the 100-player field to card an under-par round on Friday. They currently sit at T-15th on the individual leaderboard.

After starting with a double bogey on the first hole, freshman Kacey Ly (+1; 72) battled back to finish -2 over her final 11 holes. Ly recorded five birdies in her first round, the most of any Bruin.

Sophomore Angela Liu (+2; 73) had a bogey-free, -1 front nine. Liu was one of the three UCLA players to start the day strong with a birdie on the par-5 first hole. Liu had 15 pars in her opening round to card a +2, 73 on the day.
