Matt Fitzpatrick has revealed something very surprising and it’s about the Ryder Cup. He and Justin Rose both felt a little bit of bitterness. But here’s the twist. What if the bitterness isn’t actually bad? What if it’s actually good for the Ryder Cup? The Ryder Cup is one of the most dramatic events in golf. I would actually go as far to say in sport, Europe versus Team USA. And the history and pride was definitely on the line in 2025. I would say after the Marco Simone event, Europe had something to prove. The fact that they wanted to win on US soil, but also team USA had a huge point to prove for two reasons. One, the money, but two, they did get a bit of a drubbing back at the Marco Simone Golf Course. And this year, team Europe managed to just cling on to a 1513 victory, which meant they win. I’ll say this really important point. They win the RDER Cup because this is where there might have been a little bit of bitterness, but as I say, the twist here is that it could be good. It could be really good. Matt Fitzpatrick is one of Europe’s stars and it’s on the stage of the trophy presentation that there he and Justin Rose noticed something that they just couldn’t ignore. Let’s go through some of the quotes. According to Matt Fitzpatrick, PGA of America President Don Ray congratulated Europe in the way that felt just a little bit off. Instead of praising them for winning the RDER Cup, he referred to them as retaining it. Now, essentially, if you are the team that won it last time around, if you get 14 and a half points, you retain it. Now, retaining it is never as good as winning it. It was maybe a slight little needle, a slight little dig. I do want to add to this point at one point because of team USA’s final day performance it was like okay we will probably take a retain right now whereas what was said here is that Europe retained and this was referred to by the PG of America president Don Ray Fitzpatrick said and this is a quote we did feel there was a little bit of bitterness when they presented us the trophy and shook our hands now this is coming this week’s event at the Alfred Donnell Fair play. The RDER Cup boys are out. Him, Terrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood. They are playing this week in the Alfred Dunhill all the way back in Scotland. I would say it is an absolutely cracker of an event. Rose then turned to Fitzpatrick and said that wasn’t very heartfelt congratulations. I know that. So, instead of a warming closing moment, it came across as a cold handshake and the players definitely noticed it. I’m out. Fitzpatrick actually refers into the interview at the Alfred Dunhill this week that some of his colleagues also noticed it too. And it wasn’t just the officials. Fitzpatrick admitted the crowd crossed the line at times too, mocking his braces, sketcher shoes, throwing insults, and giving Rory Maroy and Shane Lowry especially an incredibly hard time. Now, we’ve done an other video on this, and that video absolutely went off the one about Rory and his wife. As I said, and even Tom Watson agrees with this, an absolute legend of the game. The American fans 100% overstepped the line. Some American fans have apologized later, but Fitzpatrick has made it clear that his team prepared for this. They knew it would be hostile. They knew it would be one of the most fearsome environments that they’ve ever competed in in golf. And what’s really interesting is a lot of Matt Fitzpatrick American friends and colleagues has sent him messages saying they want to apologize for the way the fans behaved. For me, and this is something I put on Facebook, should they have no alcohol at these big events? I think they should. But what I’m saying to you right now is a football over here in the UK during the game. You can’t have a drink of alcohol in the grand stands behind away from the pitch. You can. So maybe that is something that should be brought into golf too. I hope it’s not. I hope this is something that never see this scale again, but I’m just throwing that out there. Now this whole situation raises a much bigger point. A troy presentation isn’t just a formality. It is symbolic. It’s about respect, recognition, and the unity of heartfelt competition. When that moment feels flat, it’s a little bit harsh on the team that has won, prepared for it so well. Work so hard. And to take that trash talk, it would have been nice just to go, you know what, fair play. You took crap all week and you got over the line. I just want to say just, but only just. Now, I mentioned at the start of this video, maybe that little bit of bitterness is actually a good thing. Hear me out. We all love the drama. We all love the excitement. We never see that level of competition and rivalry in golf. I don’t think ever. I mean, maybe we sort of had it when we had the Tiger Phil Mickelson sort of battle, the Ding-Dongs at the US Open and the Masters. Maybe that had a little bit of that, but certainly never to that degree. Fans unite behind their team. Now, as the PG of America, he is on the American side of this and team USA. Maybe that is just a little bit of needle going into next time going, you know what? We’re not happy. Here you go. Here’s this. And what I’m trying to say is if you think of how they sell a boxing match, it’s when the promoter or the se side’s team representative is a little bit, I’m not going to say nasty, but I’m going to say choice with their words, choice with their actions, and all that does is create drama and rivalry for the next time this comes around. So, I’m going to throw that out there. Potentially, this is a good thing. Think about it. with every handshake, every speech, every moment, if it was perfectly polished and absolutely well done. Well done. Would the Ryder Cup, and this is my question to you, would the Rider Cup have the fire and the passion that we saw? The pride is so raw, even the officials can’t hide it. So my I’m saying to you, is it a good thing that we had a little bit of passion, a little bit of awkwardness? Because then next time out, team Europe be like, “Hey, hang on. You were that guy that weren’t like very forthcoming and made it a little bit awkward and was a little bit uh you only got a retain of the Ryder Cup, not that you won it.” I mean, I’m throwing that out there. Potentially, that could be the case, but let me know in the comments exactly what you think. This is the breaking news from Matt Fitzpatrick and exactly how he and Justin Rose and some of his fellow team members felt about the closing ceremony. I mean, those guys party hard. I saw some stat right that they spent over $230,000 on a barb bill. Crazy. Crazy. Now, my final note for you here. What do you think of Don Ray’s flat congratulations? Is it disrespectful? Was it a little bit of needle? Let us know down below in the comments. And also, don’t forget this is your home of breaking news in the golf industry.

Fuck 'em, won it outright and didn't even need the Hovland1/2 point to do so
"retained the cup" is perfectly fine IMO. It's akin to "retained his title" or "and still heavyweight champion of the world…"
As an American, this Ryder was a huge embarrassment. Just like the president. So glad Europe won!!!!!
Ever wonder if the PGA PResident did not know the difference between “winning and retaining”? Not sure which is worse. Either way, congratulations for an extraordinary away victory and and amazing performance.
PGA boss is a clown.
Now 1) Question Why didn’t the didn’t the USPGA PRESIDENT make an EFFORT to ask the crowd to stay quiet? BECAUSE HE A TRUE TRUMPER IGNORANT STUPID AND BRAINLESS
Good to have passion, abuse is something else. If the usa fans carry on in that vein it will be the end of yge ryder cup.
I keep seeing this trying to rewrite what actually went on at Bethpage and I don't know if it's just revisionism or that these YT channels doing it, this one included, have more American subscribers and viewers or the videos and it's just trying to keep them sweet. What went on was disgusting. I'm all for creating a hostile environment and some needle, I wouldn't not want that, but this wasn't that, and it wasn't even getting behind the US players it was all anti the European players and some if the abuse crossed that line.
Before I finish I will say that we European fans don't think this is all Americans, all American golf fans, or even a majority necessarily of those attending the event, but there was a mob mentality going on and it wasn't just a handful of people crossing the line, even if it was so started it, it even were the most vocal, and I think we have to remember what we see and hear on the TV coverage isn't showing the worst of it, it is somewhat sanitised for viewers, and from what I've heard we barely saw a fraction on the TV or what was going on and that was bad enough.
I hope this kind of behaviour never happens again. I do think it is a sign of the current times we live in, but it wasn't the case last time the Ryder Cup was in the US, and I'm sure it can be again next time, but we have to call a spade a spade, what went on didn't just cross the line if bulldozed right through it and kept on going to the next line!!!
It’s only words! These players are all multi millionaires, and don’t need the Ryder Cup. They aren’t forced to play, and must know that every year it gets worse. While I don’t necessarily agree with how people act, your not going to stop it.
Time to kick mugs out if they can’t behave themselves. Yes have a bit of banter but if the mark is overstepped then out you go
