My local just put in a driving range that I am guessing will return 70% of the balls sent off if they’re lucky. Woods and Water is at 280

Damn, I understand not wanting to cut all those trees down. Maybe they’ll get some nets?

  2. DonnyBravo21

eh, they get enough balls and pick up the trees/lake a few times a year it’ll work out

  3. DetectiveKibblez

Range balls are designed not to fly as far, so they will be fine

  4. secret_identity_too

Both ranges near me max out at 250. They have nets.

This is an awesome range view, though.

  5. Successful_Theory628

Looks a beautiful range tbf 😂

  6. poopyfacetomatohead

I think you are vastly overestimating how far the average person hits a ball. I’d put money on more balls ending up in the trees on the left than the trees and pond at the end.

  7. MoonManExplorer

90+% of people won’t be hitting it 280 ever. And for those that can, they shouldn’t be hitting 30% of their shots 280 either.

  8. Miserable_Middle6175

I won’t be practicing any 20 ft chips with low wedge there.

  9. Do they have any plans to level the mats?

  10. M1Lance

Gorgeous view – I’m snap hooking my ball into those woods on the left long before I’m putting them in the drink

  11. mmfcoupleslc

Beautiful looking course and range, honestly

  12. 95Mechanic

Lots will end up in the right trees at 200-240 but I’m sure they have a plan for that.

My family hires a Dad and his son to come out with scuba gear and get all the balls they can find out of the pond. We then sell them at the clubhouse for 50 cents. Cheapest pro V1 you’ll ever get outside of finding them on the course yourself

  14. My nearby course has a range like this. They don’t allow driver use. Hybrids and irons only.

  15. my local course has a driving range where 100-200 yards is a pond, they use balls that say “aqua range ball”

My very first job at 12yo was doing odd tasks at my local golf course that had a range like this. One of my responsibilities was walking down the woods/rough lining the driving range and chipping the balls back into the range so the picker could collect them. It’s amazing the number of people that will use the kid wearing absolutely no protective equipment for target practice. Fantastic job — paid in free golf and the pro slipping me the occasional $20.

The balls probably float. How they get them out of the woods is another story

  18. ScuffedBalata

I’d bet they get limited flight balls after some experimentation.

  19. Velkro615

Nice piece of land for some uneven mats

  20. daylax1

I’d be questioning more why they did all that work and didn’t bother leveling the tee area lol.

  21. GolfGuy3690

Hope they have a lot of bag boys that wanna shag balls

  22. Buddstahh

I like that they have a fairway shape at the back

  23. barowsr

A net would along the tree line would still probably pay for itself in a few years

  24. SarcasmReallySucks

More than likely, they will install nets and use reduced range balls that don’t fly as far but are accurate with direction.

  25. kennyinlosangeles

Gorgeous view but what the hell is that tee box??? My wrists hurt just looking at it.

  26. mattschaum8403

Local country club I got to play as a first last year and a super short (260-280 max) internal range and they solved this problem by installing 2 telephone poles at each corner of the range and hung a net across the gap. When the longer hitters get one down their they rarely have the height needed to carry that net and as a result lose maybe 10-15 balls a day per estimates over the net. Wouldn’t be a bad suggestion to just mitigate that short end problem

  27. Cichlidsaremyjam

Cute you think that 30% of shot hit there will clear 280

  28. Ok_Mulberry_3763

You think 30% of the balls on a range are hit 280+?

    😂😂😂😂😂😂

90%+ can’t even get there at all.

Of the 10% who can, they might do it 10% of their range shots.

And then you pop a fence to catch 90 of those….

I think they will be okay.

  29. g_borris

We have a hole like this at my local that dog legs hard right at the bottom but 245 yards straight out at the bottom of the hill is a pond. If I hit 4 iron I go in it.

  30. PM_ME-AMAZONGIFTCARD

I hit at most 10 shots with my driver before a round, usually 3-5. Also most people slice 220, not hook/draw 300

  31. misec_undact

Range I frequent has a flat length of maybe 260… end of the range has a little upslope and then a short netted fence.. almost never see a ball hit over.

You are wildly overestimating how far the average golfer hits, let alone with range balls.

  32. Lol have you ever been to the driving range? Seeing people who can drive it even 220 is rare.

  33. BlipBlamBlicky

Where at? Looks like a pretty range

  34. grubberlr

the water and woods are safe from 90% of all golfers

  35. I_cant_hear_you_27

Naw, range balls wont go that far. I bring my launch monitor to a range that is 270 yards to the fence/tree line. I’ll hit with my driver that says I launched is 280 carry and the ball lands 10-20 yards short of the fence, sometimes the ball barely make it 230 yards. Occasionally i will get a real ball mixed in with the range balls and those will fly the fence.

  36. Extension-Abies-9346

Not your problem and this is a beautiful driving range, color me jealous. My neighborhood golf course/driving range closed down for good this year 🙁 they’re building apartments and assisted living 😭

  37. Agent_Switters

Hahaha. Bro you don’t hit it that far and neither does anyone else!

  38. DucksEatFreeInSubway

Man I hate downhill driving ranges. Hard to gauge distances.

  39. Primary_Study8518

The average 15 handicapper hits their longest club 236 yards. Single digit handicaps, average 260. Meatheads that go bombing shit into the pond on purpose should be kindly asked to stop hitting driver, or go somewhere else – it’s not an uncommon ask.

  40. Intelligent_Stop_719

are there two different ranges? or that matt on the right is just super wonky?

  41. Readyforanything31

Haha yeah, those balls are gone forever once they hit the woods
