Danny Walker finished his round in spectacular fashion, rolling in five straight birdies to close and continuing an incredible week with the flat stick. “I don’t think I’ve ever made this many feet of putts before — probably not even in four days, and I’ve already done it in three,” he said with a smile.
Walker credited his putting confidence for allowing him to stay steady even after a few mid-round setbacks: “It helps knowing that my putting is strong where I don’t have to stuff it close — I can play a little more conservative and trust that I’m going to make some putts.” Growing up on Bermuda greens, he added, “I feel really comfortable… it’s a bit of a mix of speed and reading them well.”
Heading into the final round, his approach remains simple: “If I just keep playing like I am and have one or two fewer mistakes, that should take care of it.” The secret weapon? “Yeah, it’s my first week with the new putter,” Walker revealed — and it’s clearly paying off.
Danny, quite the way to finish your round there. Um, just kind of take us through the those last uh five holes there and also just how hot your putter has been this week as well. Yeah. Um, I don’t think I’ve ever made this many feet of putts before, like probably in four days and I’ve already done it in three. So, uh, yeah, I’ve been making a lot of putts. Um, and I I think going through a little adversity in the middle of the round, it helps knowing that my putting is strong where I don’t have to hit it super close. I don’t have to stuff it. I can just play a little more conservative and trust I’m going to make some putts. Just like the the greens, you seeing the lines really well this week. The stroke just feels good. Kind of a combination of everything. Yeah. Yeah. Uh I feel feel pretty dialed in with the speed. I’ve made a couple mistakes as the greens got a little bit faster where I hit some putts too hard. But other than that, just reading the greens well. I feel really comfortable on Bermuda grass growing up in Florida. So yeah, a bit of a mix of all of that. What do you feel like you have to do well tomorrow best like to hopefully be holding the trophy in the end of the day or at least have a chance coming down the 18th hole? Um I just more more play like I’ve done the last three days like it’s hard to say like with what Garrick does, you know, he could he could run away and nothing I could do about that. Um so yeah, if I just keep playing like like I am and maybe just have one or two less mistakes, I think I think that would take care of it. Is there anything you kind of um can fall back on from best experiences, best um you know, good play that you kind of use in a you get into you know a situation tomorrow. Yeah, I mean the last time I was really in contention would be I guess the players. So I felt I felt good on Sunday in that environment. So I’ll probably back on that a little bit to just to know that I can be comfortable in that situation. Have you ever made five booties in a row to finish a round before? Um I I couldn’t tell you. No idea. Is it true that you got a new putter in the bag this week? Yeah. Yeah. First week with the new putter. Um I’ve been been messing around with it a little bit since since Napa. Um this is the first week I’ve actually put it in. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks, guys.
