I went head to head in an 18 hole stroke play match against Stuart Grehan – Ireland’s #1 ranked amateur golfer, a Walker Cup player who recently represented Great Britain & Ireland against the USA at Cypress Point.

We battled it out at the Jameson Links, Portmarnock – a stunning links golf course in Ireland.

This was some of the best golf I’ve played on camera. Could I really compete with one of the world’s top amateurs over 18 holes? Watch to find out!

Guys, welcome back to the channel. This is a big one today. One vase one match. The best amateur golfer in Ireland, Walker Cup player, Irish amateur champion, 2025, the one and only Mr. Stuart Gra. Stuart, cheers. Thanks very much. Seeing you, buddy. You, too. Yeah. How’s things? Great. Yeah. Looking forward to this nice day. No wind. Perfect morning out here. We’re down at the Gemson Links down at Port Morn. Early morning. The sun has just risen. This is going to be a good one. Sure. This will be a good one. Yeah. Hope you brought your a game. You need need to go easy on me today. Best luck. I’ll let you lead the way. Cheers. You too. Sounded beautiful. See there. Tiny bit left, but bunker maybe line. Okay. Never played here before. First hole, par four. Seems fairly straightforward. About 380, 390 yards. Let’s put this in the middle of the fairway. A little right there. Wasn’t my best strike. It’s actually probably be short of it. So yeah. Yeah. Wasn’t that great? Should be fine. Start. Thanks for doing this, buddy. No worries. Appreciate your time. You know, you’re you’re a very busy man. Just back from the Walker Cup. How was that? Incredible. Yeah, it’s uh it’s one of the best weeks of my life on the golf course anyway. But um obviously the result didn’t go the way we wanted, but I was pretty happy the way we played and many points. I got one and a half out of four. Probably did play better than that to be honest. Just my putting was a little bit uh suspect, but no, it was a great week. Yeah, that it looked amazing on the on the TV the course and Yeah, spectacular. What an experience. Yeah, it was insane. You’ll um you’ll be excited for Lehench now, will you? In a couple years time. That’s that’s the plan. Yeah. Next year. Yeah. So, the game is still good and it’s it’s what I want to do. So, I’ll give it everything, you know. Yeah. Not going to lie, slightly nervous there off the first big big match today. What an opponent. Start grain plus six handicap. So, technically he should be giving me four shots, but it’s one vase one flat match. 163 yards to the pin here. Come on. It’s a phenomenal strike. Couple yards left of the pin. Looks good to me. Can’t see it down. It’s slightly dark. What distance you got? I got 151, which is normally just like an easy nine iron, but because it’s so cold, balls above my feet, I have to grip up on this eight. I’m going to I’m going to go with the the longer one of the two. Should be decent. Keep drawing. Come around. Looks pretty good. Yeah, I didn’t actually see it down, but I’m an Audi. Black at the bottom, which is nice. Here we go. Two decent shots in. Yeah. Would like to be a little closer, but we’re here now anyway. Match play moment here, Stuart. Is it match play? Yeah. Uh, we’ll play stroke play, but it’s mentally mentally it’s a match play moment. I feel like it’ll be quick enough. Looks pretty good. Back. Decent read. Decent. Yeah, this would be a nice one to get in the first 15 ft. Bit of a slider from the left. Never started on the right line. All right, that’s a four. Level par after one. Yeah. What do we got? Short par four, it seems. Second hole. Short par four. Yeah, quite tight. Probably isn’t the driver, being honest. But it’s pretty chilly, so the ball’s not going very far. But you want to see this bunker. You just see it on the left. Is that green side bunker? No. No. It’s like probably about 230 off the tea. Okay. You want to be just on that or just right of it. Okay. There’s two bunkers that actually catch the driver over that. Sounds good. So, uh, let’s see it. A little cut off that hopefully. Oh, no. pro like it’s it’s in the fairway, but there’s a bunker like maybe 300 that it might get into. We’ll see. He’s a bunker at 300. He says it might land in the UPS. Hopefully, I’m going to play I’m going to play the conservative play. You might be right. Rescue in hand. Hopefully, I hit a better strike than that first hole. Lovely. H very nice. Should be good. So, interestingly, Stuart was a professional golfer and then he got his amateur status back this year, St. Was it? That’s right. Yeah, in April. Um, so and he’s just went on a phenomenal run here in Ireland on the amateur circuit. He started off you you won the you won the Irish amateur in May, wasn’t it? Sure. Up at point. Yeah, exactly. and uh just kind of carried that form the whole way through kind of more international and then came back and won the close as well which is nice. So uh yeah just kind of played well all year. So uh and did did you think starting out the year that Walker Cup was possible? I thought it was possible but I had to play really good. Um but in fairness the whole year I think I’ve kind of played pretty well to kind of get that spot. So um yeah it was it was nice to make just how does that process work? So whenever you come back amateur, did the Walker Cup guys did they know of you or? Uh yeah, I would have known the captain. He was my Palmer Cup captain actually years ago. So uh we had um yeah, we had an an idea who we were and stuff like that and yeah, I suppose he probably I probably wasn’t on his radar straight away, but when I start kind of playing a bit better and obviously one Irish army kind of opened up a few doors so and then just kind of kept kept going for the whole year. phenomenal run like what what’s that from May from sorry April from getting your amateur status back to when the walk up was in September what’s that five five months yeah 5 months yeah I just so uh delighted what a morning we’ve got for it the sun is rising and we are in the center of the fairway good decision hitting that rescue off the tea probably wouldn’t have been confident hitting a driver Stewart is is on up there maybe in a bit of bunker trouble so let’s get this on the in here and put Mr. Grihin under a bit of pressure. Early doors. Oh, it’s left. Carry the bunker. Oh, it did. Should be on the greens. A long distance from the pin, though. Right. 71. Not too sure how it ended up here, but I’ll take it. And uh go a little sit. Whoa. Wow. I was expecting to stop it a little bit more than that. Slightly unlucky. Yeah. Probably coming out of that wet grass. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of skid on it. Are you an aim pointer shirt? I’m not. No. No. I know how to do it. Yeah. But I uh I rather use my eyes. What about the the caddies in the Walker Cup? Were they just locals of the course? Yeah, locals. Yeah. Yeah, they were good. Now, in fairness, were they much used to reading the greens? Sorry. Were they much used to reading the greens? Yeah. Yeah, pretty good. Yeah. I mean, I’d like to think I’m pretty good at myself, but it was always nice to kind of clarify with them. It’s funny though that the the GBN team were using American Caddies, you know, but there might have been a bit bit. Yeah. Wasn’t hit it. Go. That’s pretty good. Go. Yeah. Nice. That was a quick one. Very good. Ah, that’s a good four there. Oh, he hasn’t hit it. Weak dribble it. There’s a good chance it was an easy enough putt. Two fours in the second. Both level par through two. Yeah. What do we got? Two 200 yard par three here. Pin looks to be in the front. Start. Yeah, front and right. Now there’s a that bunker looks like it’s really close to the green, but it’s actually not. Um I’m going to try and step on a six. I just feel if it pitches like 195 just as this morning, it should skid. So, I’m going to try and hit a little cut off the bush just left of the pin. It started where I wanted it. Just pulled a little catch a piece on the left. Should kick off that hill. I’m not sure. It was a lovely strike, Stuart. Yeah, it was nice. Yeah, should be I think it should be a bit high. I have a four. two clubs shorter than short. I think it’s maybe a bit too much, but I’d rather be big than short here because obviously there’s a bunker at the front of the green. Oh, nice. It’s a great strike. Be a club. Looks pretty good. Yeah, I think talk to me. Should be pretty good. Yeah, pretty good lie, but don’t really play a high or low. So, I’m going to kind of go a little on the lower route. It’s a phenomenal shot. Get into it. What a shot. Came out a little higher than I’d like, but I’ll take it. What a shot in 25 ft for birdie. Tough pin to get to 200 yard par three. Because it’s on the front of the green, it’s obviously hard to get it landing soft with a with a four iron in there, but we made a good effort of it. This one is deceivingly quick as it gets over the little hump here. So, pace is key. Yeah, pretty good. It was quick. Normal circumstances, sure, we would be good. Good. But we’re counting all strokes here. Yeah. I want to see you up in the wall here after round. Well done. That’s quality up and down. Yeah, take that. Yeah, there’s two good threes there. Yeah, good part three. That both level power through three shirt. Just show them your your head cover. This is a bit of a flex now. M. It’s nice. Walker Cup Cypress Point. The logo is so cool on that, isn’t it? Yeah. Yeah. It’s pretty sick now. Yeah. So, I’ll keep that one on for a while. Definitely. Right. Good par five here. Don’t think it’s on today. Not this morning anyway. Start still has the honor. Still have the honor. Yeah. Hard man to get off this T box. Good part there now in the last but we’ll get going here now the next few two par fives in the next three. So just down to the left side. Was hammered though. It’s all right. There’s just a different sound whenever shirt hits it than me. But let’s try and get this in the far away. Looks fairly straightforward. This par five sure might be in a bit of trouble up the left, but let’s get this in the fairway. Oh, he’s flushed it. Nice. It’s a lovely one down the middle. Best part of your game, Richard? Cool. Uh, definitely ball striking. I don’t know if it’s driving or iron play at the minute, but if someone else was saying, I’d say it’s iron play. Yeah. Yeah. Have you always been a good ball striker? Yeah. I think I think you’re naturally you can’t just form yourself into a good ball strike. I think you always have to sort of have that, don’t you? Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. My iron play especially in short irons would be very strong in that area. So weakest uh weakest probably my bunker play even though the bunker shot in the last is pretty good but it’s he’s showing off now. Something I’m always trying to work towards. Uh yeah, bunker play. But I feel like every part of my game is kind of gradually improving. So I’m pretty happy with that. But, uh, putting has got better. You’re working with me and man Raflooi. Yeah. Yeah. Putting’s always Putin’s been pretty consistent. I didn’t have the greatest time in Walker Cup, but um, no, I would actually like to think I’m a pretty good putter as well. So, what were the with the greens running a nice pace in Cypress Point? Yeah, they’re running like 12, which might seem like that quick, but when you add in the slopes, they’re they were there. Um, whenever the greens are running, it’s nearly a bit skewer. You You’re a bit bit tentative on it, aren’t you? Exactly. Exactly. So, there’s probably a bit of element to that. Um but probably the benefit because it was match play, you know. Correct. Correct. But yeah, it’s just uh yeah, just one of those weeks like putting so fickle, you know, you can hit a good put and it might go in and hit a bad it does go in. So yeah, good drive in a small hole. I wouldn’t say it’s a divot. Just sitting down a bit. 320 left. Not going to get there. This is a strong par five. Lots of bunkers up there. So it’s just kind of a placement shot in between them. That’s good. That’s nice. Came out very hot. Yeah, it’s perfect. Swinging well this morning. Starting to heat up a bit. Good start. Three pars. Nice way to settle into the round here. That was a 290. You say two 295 shirt. Yeah, 295. Obviously the pins on the left now. I could hit 3-wood, but if I do, you know, pull it 5 yards like the up and down is just so difficult. So, I’m actually going to hit a club that’s not going to be able to get to the green. But I’m going to try and miss it short right cuz it’ll give me all the green to work with. Going to go with the treewood instead. The lie is pretty good. So, and give this a rip off the up slope. What a strike. Oh, it’s going to just a touch left. That’s going to be really tricky up and down. 89 left. Nice. Good number. 89. Sounds good for a full 58°ree. It’s absolutely perfect conditions out here this morning. Let’s get this in tight. Put Mr. Grihin under a bit of pressure. Let’s see it. It’s on a good line. Travel a bit. Get up. Go. Ah, just a hair short. Still a decent shot. Right. This is an interesting little chip here. I’m actually going to go in low here. We’ll use the contours. Uh, so I’m actually just going to go. There’s a sprinkler just kind of short of the green. I think if I landed in there, it should skip up with a 56 and go to the left. So, kick. Oh, he’s called it well. That one got a bit unlucky there, but just grab it. Okay, decent shot in. Bit shorter than what I’ve would have wanted, but pins at the back here, so didn’t want to be dicing with danger. Here we go to open the account. 20 ft down the hill. Good for pace. Just never started on the right line. Come on, shirt. Knock it in. Yeah. Do it. A peace again. A bit tentative this morning. That’s the new YouTube nerves. You only think the Walker Cup was a big stage. Right. Strong uh strong par four again. Every hole we’ve said is pretty strong, isn’t it? What a golf course though. Yeah, it’s it’s very good. Very very uh demanding. All right. This is strong par four. That bunker down the left hand side is probably just in play today, but a little fade off that is is ideal. Left is all right with the pin on the right, but [Music] looks good to me. Yeah, it just should be down the right wing. Yeah. Okay. Fifth hole at the gon links. 470 yards. Pretty chilly as well. A big boy. Stroke index two. Nice. Yeah, that’s a good one. Exact same line as Stuart. Probably about 50 yards behind him. Just Stuart, talk to me about you obviously played on on the challenge tour now the the hotel planner tour. But what’s what would you say is the big difference between competing on their week in week out and competing at the high level amateur scene here in Ireland? And obviously you’ve played Lithm Trophy and all the the kind of big world amateur golf ranking events here. Yeah. I guess the biggest difference is like I think the top end everyone is still really good and like the scoring’s like really strong but like the depth on tour is just ridiculous. Like even now I think more so now even when I started as a pro was what six seven years ago. Um yeah just everyone I feel is a good player now. You know there’s no weak players at all. Do you think that stint you done as a professional has helped you on the amateur scene? Obviously, you had said that, you know, the challenge tour, you you have to start start off strong. You know, these guys are shooting 25 under par every week for four rounds of golf. Has that helped you like get in a nice mindset, you know, playing the likes of the Irish amateur and stuff like that? 100%. Yeah. Yeah. It’s just kind of built into me now. Like anytime I play a golf course, no matter how tough it is, I still want to shoot, you know, six, seven, eight under power, whatever it may be. Um, so like say if you’re you’re teeing up in an Irish amateur, you’re you’re trying to from the getgo, birdies, birdies, birdies. Yeah. No matter how hard it is, that’s a big difference because as you probably seen the the video I posted from from the North of Ireland amateur championship, I had a bit of a bit of a shocker there. I’d say 50% of that was down to, you know, nerves and being tentative and stuff. 98. What do you think? Five or six? I don’t think six is going to get there. I like five cuz long long is better here than short. Okay, after a good drive, 198 left. Still cold air this morning. So, usually would hit a sixiron, got a club up. Have a five iron here. Pins on the right. Anything in the middle of this green is a good result. Oh, it needs to carry. Get up. Oh, yeah. Very good. It looks pretty good. Perfect. 175. I had 198 Stuart 23 yds past me. And that I heal that one. Ah, pulled it. Ah, middle of the green, but safe. Yeah, I was kind of fancying that shot to be honest. Right hand pin. Good number. Wouldn’t be too happy with that now. Yeah, good a good 40 40 ft here. Um, you’re disappointed with that one, Sure. Yeah. No, I’m not not happy with that at all. But look, we’re on the green. Interesting put. Should go to the right in the last third of the putt. It’s giving you a good read anyway, but that’s why I’m standing behind you. Hopefully you watch this pour right in the middle now as well. That’s a good line. Oh no. It’s going to stay there. Good face. Yeah, it’s good for me. Sure. All right. Good four. He’s came to play today. Put a golf shot in into about 10 ft here. We have a good look. Got a nice read off shirt. Oh, nice. Good three. That’s a quality birdie there. Yeah. One shot lead. We’ve got the honor on the Tox. Yeah. Sixth hole here. Another another big par five. Nice. Probably a touch maybe at that bunker on the right. Yeah, there’s a couple down there. Might be okay. Yeah, hopefully it escapes it. Yeah, I’m going to give this a little bit extra on the way down here. Hopefully get home in two. Don’t be embarrassing me too much. Oh no, same thing. You had a few big names out spectating the Walker Cup. Yeah, there was Yeah, Fred Ridley, the chairman. Augusta was there. Eden Pter with us all week. Bryson was there, Condolina Rice was there, President Bush was there. It was Yeah, it was pretty cool. Yeah, mainly because of the venue also as well. Like Yeah. And the 50th Walker Cup. Pretty special. It was special. Yeah, it was insane. I’d love to love to do it all again now. It was incredible. Narrowly missed the bunker thankfully. 287 left. I’m just thinking, is it a 3-wood or is it a layup with a rescue? There’s a couple of bunkers up there. So, let me just weigh up the options first. Just a lay up here. Just trying to place this short of the green. Give ourselves a chance to get it up and down then. Yeah. Yeah. That is a good one. Unlucky there, Stuart. Yeah. Yeah. I was always a bit right. So, um, yeah, pretty much a shot penalty in here, but I’m going to try and squeeze this one out a little further. Under a little bit of pressure here at the minute, so come on. Cut a little bit more. Phenomenal strike out of there. Yeah, I didn’t want to get too cute, but What’d you hit? I hit nine iron. Uh, not too how sure it was close to the lip, but it came out nice. Right. 35 I think it is. So, green light pin for me on the right here. So, I’m going to try and just hit it down on top of that. It’s pretty much on. It should look phenomenal. Has to be good. A golf shot. Should be pretty close. Tik Tok shop special. Need to clean the grooves for this one. Perfect angle into this pin. This would be a nice one just to fizz in there and we bit of grab on it. Lift it nicely. Sit. Go. Oh, he has came to play about 11 12 ft. Pretty good shot in. It actually landed very close. I didn’t think it was going to skip that much, but feel like I have a lot of double breakers today, but I’m actually just going to hit this one just on the left side and give it a bit more pace. Oh, Stuart. God mighty. Not your best. No, I’m under reading everything. There’s not much to say about this one. Knock it in. Nice. Well done. That’s a birdie. 200 under para at this stage. Starts level. Can’t lose him here. You’d be surprised. Okay, what we got? 4 12 m. Yes. Another strong 50 60 yards. Yeah. Back into a little draft. So, uh big big golf course especially whenever it’s slightly cold. Nice. Great shot. Yeah. Should be good. Stuart, give us an insight into working full-time job and trying to obviously compete at the highest level in the amateur game also. Yeah, it’s it’s obviously, you know, pretty difficult. Um, you know, managing time and kind of practice and all that sort of stuff, but I have to give a big shout out to my work actually. They’ve been they’ve been very good to me, DFP up there in the dock. So, um, what what sort of line of work you in? I’m in financial services. So I am currently can you know studying to be a financial adviser and then you know in time I’ll kind of branch out into the investment and wealth management space. So very good. Um yeah I love it. I really do. So I always what 9 to5 is it or 9 to5? Yeah there’s yeah a little bit you know meeting clients and stuff like that but um yeah my primarily base is in the office. So yeah. And then would you would you typically practice in the evening time? I know you have you have a newborn child. Well not newborn but you have a baby anyway. Um can be very difficult. It can be. Yeah. I mean, we have a nice schedule at home with my wife Carla, so she’s been very good to me. Um, the time and stuff like that. So, we have a nice little schedule. She gets to do her things. I get to do my thing. So, um, but yeah, it’s all good. 53 into a slight bit of hurt. It’s cold of an eight iron here. This is a green light flag. Oh, yeah. Good strike. Couple yards right of it. All right. Uh, probably look better than the result. Yeah, the result. Yeah, we’re just off the green to the right. 30 ft. Oh, it’s good number. 130. 130. Yeah. So, I’ll grip down on the wedge a little bit more this time and hit it. Full. I’ll let you into a secret. Start. What? There hasn’t been a hole out yet in the channel. So, I’m expecting big celebrations if we we see one here. Oh, I pulled it. Oh, it’s the worst swing of the day. Catch a bit. Oh, that’s shocking. Yeah. Uh, after an absolutely atrocious wedge shot, a good 30 ft pull or 10 yard pull rather, I’ve uh fairly difficult bunker shot. So, straight down the slope. Yeah. Oh, this is Yeah. On a difficulty, if I was doing on a scale, it’s probably like an eight or nine. Oh, it’s bounced. Just a tough one. Extremely tough. Actually a very good shot in now that I’ve got up here. 30 ft. Nah, sorry. But yeah, 25 ft I’d say. Uphill. Left ourselves a really nice putt at this. Let’s give it a go. Come in. Come in. Do it. Are you kidding me? What? One more dimple. What have we got? 10 seconds. Come on. Give me a break. Oh, this is exciting stuff so far. This would be very disappointing if this doesn’t go in, but can only blame this the second shot. All right. I haven’t made a thing so far. So, great effort. Few hops along the way. Yeah. Yeah, that’s absolutely terrible. Eighth hole at the gem links. Stuart says this is a new hole here, so I don’t really know where we’re going. There’s a white stone in the distance. I have the driver out. Let’s keep the foot to the gas. Oh, that’s actually fine. High right shoulder. Perfect. Right. Need to get something going here. It’s been a slow start right into that bunker. That’s it. Oh, I’m not sure. How was the nerves, Stuart? Ting up at the Walker Cup. Obviously the biggest for anyone that doesn’t know, it’s the the amateur equivalent to the RDER Cup, Great Britain, Ireland, V America. Best golf amateur golfers in the world. It’s the big scene. Obviously, you had the big spectators. You had Bryson and Pter and the like. So, how was the team up there? Yeah, it was I was obviously very nervous, but I kind of thought about it a week prior. I was just like trying to build up the first tea in my own head. So, like when I got there, you know, I would, you know, be ready for it. And I thought I was pretty I was pretty okay. And then about 15 minutes before it, I was I was very nervous, I must admit, when you’re kind of waiting to go and stuff like that. And what I did was though, the first tea is a little bit back or sorry, a little bit forward to where the clubhouse is. So what I did was when say like 5 minutes before my tea time, I actually walked out and experienced the first tea with all the people there and stuff like that just to get a feel for it. So when I did walk out again, I was ready for it. So I think you just have to to understand that you are going to be nervous. You know, you’re not a robot. Exactly. So when I when I actually got to um when I got over the ball, I was actually fine then. You know, when I was called, my name was called, people were clapping and you know, you have cameras there and all that sort of stuff. So I was ready for it. But uh such a cool experience. Like it was so cool. Yeah, it was so good. [ __ ] Yeah, obviously this is no bueno. Um oh, was not expecting that strike. H there needs another golf ball, I think. Uno mass. I did it again. Okay, St is in a bit of bother, it seems. I can’t get complacent here, though. I need to just play my own game. I’m ticking along very, very nicely. The one thing I noticed about Shirt though, he is a phenomenal ball striker. Every time he hits it, there’s a lovely fizz off the ball. We’re in the driver’s seat here. 99 yds to the pin. Oh, caught that fat. Big hop. Go. [ __ ] That’s the worst shot I’ve hit all day. Front edge of the green. Sit. Sit. Sit. Nicely pledge. Not my best shot into this green. That is extremely per from 99 yards. Let’s just try and get this down in two and get out of here with a four break. Oh, come back. Yeah, pretty good. Ah, just lacked a bit of pace. Little slider here from the left. Nice. Very good. That’s clutch. Interesting day so far. Go ahead game. Okay, ninth hole. 153 yards to the pin. Little choke there. You get iron. Pin looks fairly accessible here. Same as Stuart. Thinned it. All right. Ah, it’s pretty much impossible. I’m going through the wars at the minute. Funky green this. Yeah, just hit a Tom Tom shank off that tea there. So, here we are. Go. Oh, he’s judged it. Perfect. Pace. Go on. Walk up to it. Go in. Oh, what a putt. Cheers. Yeah, I can I can I actually can play golf sometimes. A very similar one to Shirts. The slope here is absolutely insane. We’ve missed it in the a bad spot. Shirt hit an absolute brilliant putt. just trickled it over the the bank. He couldn’t have got it any closer unless he held it. Go. Oh, nice. Great pace. Just line. There were two good. This would be a good two putt to finish off the front nine. Ah, hit a good putt. just never moved. Very straight. It’s disappointing there on a fairly easy par three. Back to one under. Oh jeez. My god. Things are rough at the minute. What’s the thought process now, St? Yeah, I’m obviously pretty uh pretty upset when I’m playing. Um but yeah, look, it’s one of those things you can’t play well every day. just one hole there kind of caught you out. Yeah, it was a wrong wrong club off the tea. I think it was more of a decision based um mistake. The reason why I say that is because look, we’re not going to hit every shot perfect, are we? It’s impossible. So, I was obviously banking on me ripping that rescue and I just healed it and went into the bunker. So, it was a wrong club. Should have hit 3-wood because if I did heal it, it would have carried the bunker. Yeah, you actually struck the the bunker shot good. Could have just turned over on you a bit, but yeah, it was an awkward lie, wasn’t it? Yeah, lost ball. So So yeah, starting the back nine. I’m one under power, Stard. Like plus four. Plus four. Yeah. Haven’t been plus four in a while. But look, we’ll try and get back to level of power. That’s the plan. Okay. And I’ll try and try and sneak a few more birdies maybe. Big back nine from your shirt. Yeah. I haven’t had a birdie yet. It’s leaking a bit. I don’t think it’s going to reach. I think it’s quite good, isn’t it? Nice. It’s a good start to the back nine. Just in the left rough. 124 left. Start says it’s a dangerous pin. I can’t really see it. He has a better angle in 124. It matches up lovely for a 50° wedge in here. It’s a bit to the right bunker. Hey, no, just stayed up. It’s okay. On the green. Not my best. I’m going to get pretty aggressive with this one. I think only five five behind. So, going to go for this pin. Go. Stay there. Oh, man. Thought that was pretty good. A It’s a great shot. Still not my best by any means, but it was a good bad one. Had to come around here to try and get a read on this uphill 40T. Let’s try and get this down in two. It give it a go. Good effort. This would be a nice one to go in now. Just get things going. He’s starting to smile a little bit now. He’s seen me race one by it. Oh, called it. Here we go. About time. Needless to say, a big moment in the match. This is to stay one under par. Starts in for the birdie. It’s a good roll. Sure. Nice. Needed that. It’s a tight pin. All right. It’s I could probably get wedge there, but I’m going to go with a little cut n iron instead. 10 yards left of it. Go. He’s come to play the back nine. He’s finally lightening up. Just need to follow him here. Similar type of shot. Thought it safe. Ah, it needs to go. Ah, that was purr. All right, J has hit a cracker in there. Didn’t get nine all pitched in the bank and came back. We’ve got a little nippy one now. Strike. That’s it. That’s pretty good. Ah, sit shot. Yeah, it’s tasty. This is a big one, Jared. Yeah, there’s a nice bit of left to right on this. Looks like it’s going to break like couple of cups anyway. But this will be nice. [Music] Oh, how did it miss? How did it miss? Wow. Thought it was in the middle. Okay, we left ourselves a good a good putt for the par uphill from the right. Oh, pushed up. It’s probably a lack of concentration on my behalf. All right, it’s disappointing. 12th hole, eight holes to play. Three shot lead. Three shot lead. Three shot lead. If you had to give me it in the first hole, I would have took it. Last left. It’s at the bunker. I just don’t know if it’s going to reach it today. It’s all right. Yeah. Three shutter anyway for me. Yeah. Yeah. This is a proper proper t-shot this one. Oh, no way. Got a lucky break there. Think I must have pitched in here and kicked down in the fairway. Dwayne is the cameraman today. He’s pulled me aside there and told me it’s not a 3wood. So, uh, that’s good advice from Dwayne. So, I pulled the 3wood out of the bag. We have 269. It’s going to take all of it to get up there. Oh no. That’s right. Keep an eye on that. It’s a bit aggressive this, but I think it’s time to be aggressive. The door’s wide open. Yes. Not like not looking great though. It’s only thing. It’s a pretty high tariff shot. Just worried about this tuft more so. Oh, I knew it. Oh yeah, find that one. It was a high tire shot. So got got away with one. Not the best angle here to a front flag, but just try landing around 75 pins. 81, I think. Short. Way short. Okay, we got it over here on the right rough. This is not ideal. This is a difficult pin to get to. 57 y. The green is very narrow. Um, I’ll be doing well to get this within 20 ft. Bit big. Yeah. Shot. Oh, we’ve got the seal of approval. Going to hacking my way up this hole. Just being honest. Considering I thought I hit a pretty good drive. But here we are. Oh shoot. Oh my god. Couldn’t have played that too much better. It was very, very difficult to get close to that pin. 20 ft for the birdie. Going to come from the left. Come on, Timmy. Let’s give this a chance. We’ve been hacking our way up this last couple of holes. So, [Music] do it. Oh, nice pot. Good effort right up the hole. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing here. But still have about what 10 12 ft left. Fairly uphill and right to left. So no god. That’s an absolutely atrocious six. God having at the races at all today. Middle of the cup. Didn’t want to say too much over that one. The confidence wasn’t too high after missing one the last, but that’s a good five on this difficult par five. Here we go. 13th hole, stroke index one, 467 m, 500 y. I’m surprised at how long this golf course actually is. Nice. Just on it. Please miss it. I don’t know. spot on the line that you give me. 247 left now. I hit that drive pretty good. Bit off to the right. Narrowly missed this bunker though, thankfully because if we hadn’t been in there, it would have been a different story. Rescue in hand from 247 just trying to get one chasing up there anywhere along the green. Oh, no. It’s It’s fine. It’s in the rough, but it’s fine. Still have like 210 in here. Should be pretty decent. Is it 10 yards left of it? Is it 10 yards left? Yeah. Great strike. It It was a lovely flight. Yeah, I was pretty happy with that. Sitting okay here. What a tough golf hole. A driver rescue and I’m still short. Now, I did squirt that out a bit, that rescue, but nonetheless, really long hole. Green kind of slopes right to left. So, I’m just going to try and pitch it on the front edge and let it filter down to the flag. Can’t see. Oh, it’s a good shot. Maybe about 12 ft short. Got a bit unlucky. It’s a bit of a tricky tricky chip. Got a couple ways to play it, but I’m going to go with a low route considering it’s still a little bit skippy. That was beautiful. Yeah, pretty pretty happy. I thought we get a little bit more of a skip forward, but I did nip it. Thought I played that second third shot. Sorry. Lovely. I did play it nicely, but just needed a bit more pace on it. This is a big one in the context of the match to remain level par. [Music] Yes. Nice. That is a big one. Start wasn’t too happy with that. Be inside left. Ah, it’s a good half. Yeah. Yeah. It’s not exactly a easy hole where he straight down straight. Straight down. Yeah. Um just in the center cut the farway. Correct. Correct. Yeah. You won’t be wrong there. Ah, right. But it’s going to be short of everything, so it’ll be fine. Oh, he went after that one. Stay there. Oh, that’s fine. Start, I want you to be brutally honest. How would you rate my golf game in terms of, you know, in putting into perspective of the amateur golf scene here in Ireland? Yeah, I think well today you’ve been pretty solid, haven’t you? Yeah, decent. I’ve been playing striking the ball well. I would say off the te off the tea, you’re quite strong. Yeah, I think that’s actually the weakest part of my game. Really? That shot there that I just hit would be that. Yeah, spinny hely one that just goes nowhere, you know. Okay. Putting putting can be good streaky but overall I think I underperform you know um what you think that is yeah I don’t know just I usually throw away the half decent round you know um mentality maybe. Yeah just need to improve in that and obviously trying to make a few swing changes as well. And look it’s all you’re never satisfied are you never as a golfer? Oh never tell me about it. I get criticized the whole time for giving out a bit of that sort of stuff, but yeah, I think I think your chipping’s quite good. Yeah, some lovely chips today. Um maybe I think the wedges wedges could be a little bit better. I know you hit a few close today, but the flight I would like to see the flight come down down a bit. Yeah. I get a bit bit too wristy, you know, instead of actually working with Sean Foley, you know, that’s a big thing. He’s trying to get me more like Steve Stricker, you know, stiff wristed and obviously that would take the flight down a bit more. Yeah, I think that would make a big difference. But yeah, I don’t know. It’s good inside anyway. Yeah, absolutely. Per T- shot there. No danger though. Blind T- plain second shot though. Don’t really know where we’re going. Have a sixiron here. We’re 300 out. So, this is a get back in play and try and make our birdie the old traditional way. Looks fairly good. Yeah. Yeah, this is tight now. To be honest, it could easily just hit off that, but we’ll give it a run. Go on. No idea. 191 left. There’s really no forgiveness on this course. It is an absolute beast. We were just looking at the scorecard there. It’s about 7,300 yds off the blue TE’s. 191 left of a sixiron. I’m just going to play it over the middle of that bunker. And if it fades, it fades. If it doesn’t, we should be in the middle of the green. It’s a nice strike right over the bunker. Yeah, good shot. Yeah, bit short, is it? Yeah, a little short, but it’s good. Couldn’t hit that any better to be fair. Pretty pretty easy chip. Just have to come up to here, but just try and hit this in nice and low. Get it chasing up that hill. Oh, so nice. Probably landed actually just a touch too far, but still inside 10 ft. Not the worst. That was a professional shot into the middle of the green. Could have went flag hunting. Actually pin high here. It’s a very good shot. Bit of a crowd in the background here. This would be a nice one to drop in. Yeah, good point. Ah, didn’t break it. We’ll take a five to remain level par with four to play. Come on, St. You’re due one. I’m due a lot, I think. But yeah, this is a relatively easy put just outside right. Oh, man. Just haven’t held a thing today. God, you’ve let a few good opportunities slip. What score are you? Plus four still. Plus four. I’m level. There’s four in it. Four to play. Bit of a slip, but it’s all over it. Slipped into the hole. Oh. Oh, it’s tight. That’s a good start. I’ve aggravated him a bit there whenever he said he was four behind. Bit skinny. Needs to get up. It’s going to work out though. Travel. It’s done all right. Yeah. Chat. Okay. Got away with that T- shot. Good look for birdie. 15 ft. I’ve said it a number of times today. This would be a good one to get. This looks like a fairly new green, so maybe a bit slower than the rest of them. Come in. Try just never started on line. We’re tipping away at the pars though. Three to play. We’re level pars in close for the birdie. 4T pretty straight, you’d like to think. Oh, he’s making it interesting. Yeah. Three to play. Three in it. Oh, should be good. Not sure. It wasn’t hit great. Okay. Good drive required here on the 16th hole. What a good one it is. Yeah. Down the middle. There was a bit of help behind, wasn’t there? Yeah. I I think I think a full 50 is perfect. You playing mind games? No. No. Gen genuinely I think I think a 150 is perfect. 130 left. I hit my 50° 125. Slightly downhill. Bit down breeze. J says 50° gets there comfortably. So if you’re telling me it goes 125, this is the club. Okay, let’s see it. Get up. Yeah, it’s on the front of the green. Oh, it was a club though. Yeah. Right. 95 yards in great numbers. So, we’ve had a birdie there in 15. So, I wouldn’t mind having another three. Uh, Timmy, what do you think? You wouldn’t mind that, would you? A bit of pressure on the 18. I’d like to see you birdie this one to get it back to two, but I wouldn’t like to see you birdie the last two. 18 T-shot is tough. Now, you’re telling me about your driving is not the best part of your game. Keep an eye on the flag here now. Draw a bit. Kick. Oh, a little. A left himself a nice putt. Yeah, it’ll be a little a little bit quick. But guys, if he’s got this far, do not switch off yet. This man Stir Gra is on a mission. He really really wants to pull it back here now. He’s hitting an absolute cracker into 5 ft. I have 30 ft down the hill from the right. Let’s try and get one in before him. It’s a good looking. Come on, do it. Do it. [Laughter] It’s a good putt. Two good birdies there, Start. Yeah. Well done. Didn’t want to see yours go in, but it did. 350 here, Stuart. 17 hole. Yeah, pretty narrow, but looks fairly straightforward right in front of you. It’s A1. Perfecto. Just keeping the Just keeping the heat on you. Cutting slightly. Is it perfect? Yeah, I think it’s good. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It’s hard to see with the sun. It is. Yeah. Jared, thanks very much for doing this, buddy. Really appreciate it. No worries. I know you’re you’re a busy man. Where are you off to to next on your travels? I fly to Singapore this Wednesday for Eisenhower. So, we’re That’s the World Team Championships, is it? Yeah. Yeah. The last time we played that, we had a we got a bronze medal, so that was pretty cool. only team from Ireland ever to do it. So it’ be nice. So that’s obviously the best amateurs in the world competing. The US have a team as well. Yes. Yeah. The top three guys are going for for for them. So that’ll be tough bet. But look, we’re all playing pretty well, the three of us. Um so go give that a good run. Yeah, good drive there. Probably didn’t have great thoughts going through my head over that T- shot, but nonetheless, we’re in the middle of far away. 86 yards left. Sort of. There’s been a lot of people hitting here and stuff, so not the best of lies, but a birdie would be very, very nice here to get to two under power and near enough. Seal the deal. Get up. Go. Go hard. Go. Oh, that’s a good one. Into about 10 ft. Come in. Unlucky shot in. Deserve better than that. Okay, here we go to get back to two under par. Do it. All right. All right. Back to back. Back to back. Down to the last. Two under par. Starts two over. Four shot lead. Yeah, it’s just a good T-shot. You got to man up and hit one here. Yeah, very demanding T-shot here. Uh but what a golf course. Big shout out to the JSON links for having us here today. I have really enjoyed this. If you’re looking somewhere that’s probably a bit more affordable than um than the likes of the big boys here in Ireland, get yourself down to the Gem Links. Really enjoyable and challenging golf course. little left. It opens up quite a bit, so should be fine, shouldn’t it? Yeah, you you’ll get it. You’ll get it. Great strike. Phenomenal. So, get this all the way back there and you’ll have a really good chance at Yeah. knocking another one in. It be nice to finish with three in a row. I like your positivity shirt. Yeah. I think the game is done at this stage. So yeah, good drive down there. It must have kicked off here in the M on the left. And I think I deserve a bit of luck today. I’ve had no luck this last couple of rounds just short of this bunker. Another yard more and we would have been in there pitching out. 162 left. This is a green light for an eight iron. Let’s try and finish in style. Let’s skank it. Oh, it’s going to work out. Get up. Get over the perfectly. Go. A little. I’ll take it. Wind. There’s not much of it, is there? No. What a day. Yeah, it was great, wasn’t it? Really enjoyable, I must say. It’ be nice to finish off with a three here. It’s high. I don’t know if it’s going to get back there at that flight. Absolutely all over it. Oh, it is. What a golf shot. Stay there. Lovely flight off that shirt. Yeah, big ups. So, I didn’t think it was going to get back there. Just started so high. But yeah, it was a decent shot. Not my best strike that last one. 40 50 ft up the hill here. Let’s get this down in two. Timmy, get out of here with a 702 under par. It would be a very, very good round. Come on. Hit it. Got to go. A go. All right, it’s done. Okay. Bit slower than I thought. Be a nice way to finish. Come on, Stuart. Roll it in, buddy. Yeah. Story of the day there. So unfortunate. So annoying. Okay, no messing about here. The match is sign sealed and delivered at this stage, but come on. On. We need to finish strong here with a four. Good stroke. Well done. Good round. Work. Thanks very much. Cheers. An absolute great privilege to watch you play. You hit the ball. Absolutely fantastic. If you had to get the ball rolling a bit better in the greens. Could have been a couple under there. But guys, thank you very much for watching. Hope you all enjoyed that. Again, Stuart, thanks very much for your time. Thanks to JSON Links. Absolutely phenomenal van venue. Hope you enjoyed the video.

  1. That place looks insane. Watched that guy all year on the bogeymen channel in them Irish amateur competitions he was always round the top and to win 2 of them in a season is some going. Loving the content buddy

  2. I set out to shoot 6 under every round too. Very quickly it becomes can I shoot level then very quickly after that im trying to shoot 6 over for 34 points 😅

  3. Great video guys, really enjoyed this, fair play. You can tell Stuart could have played several under but things just didn't click for him earlier in the round.

  4. Love the vids Timmy. Your humility and decency are great qualities. Keep up the good ⛳️

  5. Would love to know why Stuart gave up on the Pro game? What did he think he was missing? Also would be interesting to know what his average swing speed or Ball Speed is with the Driver? It would be good to know how his game developed, when did he get good, did he have a coach that took him to a higher level? Did he ever have to leave a coach that hurt his game? How did he keep getting better and better to get to his current level? If Stuart can't make it how does any amateur in Ireland ever turn Professional? Would be great to see Timmy play a round with Bruce MacDonald. Besides Stuart is there someone in Ireland who strikes it better than Bruce MacDonald? Great content Timmy!

  6. This guy talks better that he plays. “Aiming for birdies from first hole” proceeds to par/ bogey every hole.

You completely outplayed him, much more consistent stroke and course management and that was your first time playing the course. Well done.

  7. Excellent video Timmy, I’m a Tullamore man myself well done to Stuart on a great year

  8. Great video and well played. Stuart's pedigree really came through towards the end, peppering pins. What also needs to be noted, is that u are mostly playing links courses. They can be so punishing. Even at your level, u are adding 2 to 3 shots over a strong parkland.

  9. Disagree with the regaining the amateur status so quickly. If you had had a crack as a touring professional you should have to wait a couple of years at least before being eligible.
But fair play, seems a great lad and a great player.

  10. ooh – you deserved that putt to go -3 under! Microns away from dropping. Good vid. Nice course.
