Some of the biggest names in golf have descended on the historic Delhi Golf Club for the inaugural DP World India Championship, a $4 million spectacle that has already captured the sport’s global attention. Headlining the star-studded field is Rory Mroy, making his long-awaited first appearance in India. The world number two will be joined by fellow Rder Cup teammates Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood, adding plenty of European firepower to the event. Fans in Delhi are also in for a treat as American standouts Ben Griffin and Brian Harmon join the diverse international lineup. However, not everyone made it to the starting tea. Scotland’s Yuan Ferguson was forced to withdraw before the tournament began due to visa complications upon arrival. Some visa issues at the airport this morning, forcing me to withdraw from India, Ferguson shared on Instagram. Very annoying, but a week off to reset might not be a bad thing. A three-time DP World Tour winner, Ferguson has endured a tough run of form following injuries earlier in the year. Despite that, he sits 41st in the race to Dubai standings, which puts him in good position to feature in the upcoming Middle East playoff series. The playoffs begin with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship from November 6th to 9th, open to the top 70 players in the rankings before the season finale, the DP World Tour Championship. A week later at the earth course in Jira states Dubai de Mroy remains the overwhelming favorite to capture a seventh order of mer crown which would move him within one of Colin Montgomery’s all-time record. Yet one man could stand in his way. England’s Marco Ping fresh off his third DP World Tour victory in just 16 starts after a thrilling triumph at last week’s Spanish Open.
