HAMDEN, Conn.- Junior Cooper Bertrand (Caledon, Ont.) capped off an impressive 2025 campaign by taking home his third individual title of the season at the two-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship tournament, thus earning Conference Golfer of the Year recognition.
Bertrand was one of two Cadets with a top-five finish at New Haven Country Club, with freshman JD Mahoney (Ellicott City, Md.) placing fifth, earning First-Team All-Conference honors.
The opening day of competition was tight down to the wire, with several teams occupying first place throughout the day. In the end, the hosts from Albertus Magnus held a five-stroke lead over second-place Emmanuel, with both Norwich and New England College (NEC) tied for third, one stroke behind the Saints.
Day two started out close, with first place and fourth place separated by four strokes early on, but the Pilgrims pulled away late to notch their third straight GNAC Championship, with the Cadets finishing fourth overall.
Individually, Bertrand jumped out to the individual lead in the opening round, making birdie five times, getting to +1. He added another birdie on day two, finishing the second round +7, two strokes better than NEC’s Graham Hassan. Mahoney also got off to an impressive start, making birdie three times en route to a +7 score. On day two, he finished with a score of +10, bringing his total to +17.
