One of the most popular golf courses in Arizona has re-opened after a five-month refinement project.

The Boulders North Course, located in Carefree, a small enclave north of Scottsdale, is ranked 15th on the Golfweek’s Best top public-access golf courses in Arizona. First opened in 1985 and designed by Jay Morrish, the par-72, 6,811-yard course is one of two (along with the South) at The Boulders Resort & Spa Scottsdale.

Since May, crews worked to restore the greens to their original shape and size and resurfaced them with TifEagle turf. The South Course had a greens renovation project of its own in 2022 and now both courses have that turf on their putting surfaces. TifEagle does not require overseeding, which traditionally takes place in October in Arizona. Carefree sits an elevation of about 2400 feet.

Further, the North Course’s tee boxes were laser-leveled and resurfaced, work that was also done on the par 4s and par 5s on the South Course, which ranks 19th on that same Golfweek’s Best list.

“This further illustrates our commitment to offering the very best golf course experience for our guests and members,” said Boulders General Manager John Maskovich. “With the completion of this project and our exceptional team of golf course professionals, it is our hope to continue to earn high marks in the golf industry.”

The summer-long refinement project was conducted by golf course architect and ASGCA member, Arthur Schaupeter.

During the 2022 work on the South course, both courses underwent bunker renovations and had new pump stations installed. The Boulders Resort also now has 12 pickleball courts and new fall clinics at the Boulders Tennis & Pickleball Garden.

The Boulders Resort & Spa Scottsdale has 160 guest casitas and 58 villas as well as five restaurants and a lounge.
