Scoring

An epic final round from Reed Greyserman led to individual medalist honors for the Tiger at the 2025 St. Andrews Links Collegiate as Greyserman tied the school record for low round to par with a -6 to roar back into contention and ultimately win by four shots over two players.

Greyserman entered the day two shots back of Lorenzo Pinili of Michigan State, and was still two shots down after nine holes. On the back nine, Greyserman dialed up four of his round’s six birdies to put pressure on Pinili. Three of those birdies cam on consecutive holes as he birdied 15, 16, and 17 to get to -6 for the day and -8 overall. While that run of birdies was happening, Pinili found trouble in the form of a ball into the bushes on 16 which resulted in a double bogey and ended his chances.

Greyserman enjoyed his time on the Jubilee Course, carding nine birdies and just one bogey over his 36 holes. His play, and that of his teammates, ensured they will have a chance to play for a team championship on the Old Course on Wednesday.

Princeton had entered the day one shot off the team lead, sitting behind Michigan State after one round of play. Cal was on fire in the second round, ultimately shooting -7 as a team over the final 18 holes to claim the first entry into the championship match with a total team score of -7.

That left one spot up for grabs, and for most of the day it seemed like it would belong to the Spartans who were battling Cal for the top seed and had built at times an eight-stroke cushion over the Tigers who were struggling to find their game over the front nine.

With their backs against the wall, the Tigers clawed their way back into contention. Not only was Greyserman -4 over his final nine holes, the other four players who scored each contributed in key moments including Riccardo Fantinelli who had a birdie on 15 as well as Charlie Palmer and Eric Zhao who both had back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15.

Eric Yun had to grind out his final nine, posting six bogeys and three birdies on the back nine, but the final birdie on 18 helped spark some momentum for the Tigers who were way back of the Spartans at that time. Yun’s birdie after three consecutive bogeys was one stroke of ground made up, but in a race that was decided by one stroke it may have been the most important.

The Tigers and Cal will meet in the Championship Match which starts at 10:55 a.m. BST/5:55 a.m. BST and will be shown live on the Golf Channel beginning at 2 p.m. BST/9 a.m. EST.
