FAIRFAX – For the second straight week, George Mason’s Vaughn McMeans was awarded the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week honors, announced by the conference.

McMeans earned co-medalist honors with 15-under-par (66-67-68) three-rounds scores to lead the men’s golf team to a fourth place finish at The Island at West Bay college Invitational. It’s his second consecutive tournament win, having earned co-medalist honors at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational.

The two wins in a single season have only been achieved three times in Mason history. Craig Mason won two tournaments in back-to-back seasons (2000-01, 2001-02), while Mike Kirby did it during the 2005-06 season.

McMeans cracked more George Mason golf records with is effort, earning the lowest 36-hole score Vs. Par (-11) and tied for lowest 36-hole score (133). The 54-hole score marks one of the best showings in Mason golf history as the second lowest score relative to par ever recorded by an individual Patriot behind Mike Kirby (-16) during the 2005-06 season.

As a team, the Patriots shattered the lowest 18-hole score (-12), lowest 36-hole team score (-20), and lowest 54-hole score (-24) in George Mason program history.

This is McMeans second A-10 Golfer of the Week honor. The sophomore had three A-10 Rookie of the Week honors last season.

The Green and Gold head to Mexico for the Monterrey Collegiate Classic, hoted by GW October 24-25.
