First thing I want to talk to you guys about is grip. No matter how many clinics I give, no matter how many students I have, the grip is something that is 99% of the time wrong. And that’s okay. But it is a fundamental. And if you look at Scotty, and I’ve shared this over and over on social media, what does the number one in the world do before he hits every single shot on the range? You’ll see this. That’s what he does. That’s how important the grip is to somebody like him. So if it’s important to him, it should definitely be important to you. All right. So the biggest issue I see with the grip on most amateur players and also most senior players and that has the biggest effect on your power, which is already hard to create, you know, if you have a lot of experience in life and if you’re maybe not as strong as you once were. Um, so that’s why all of this is geared towards you guys having more distance and more power without having to get stronger because that’s not realistic for everybody. And you also don’t have to if we allow to get this club moving, if we allow it to be efficient and use this weight at the end of it to actually give us more acceleration. So everything I’m telling you today is about letting the club move more efficiently so you can gain some more distance without having to stress about it. Sometimes the left hand is a little too weak. So the lead hand is a little too weak. So usually you can adjust your lead hand a little bit more. So you see two knuckles here. If you see two knuckles from your perspective, you’re good. Biggest issue is the right hand or the trail hand in this case. I see it so often that it’s under the grip too much. So a telltale sign is you being able to see your nails, too much of your nails right here. And you know, everybody has different length fingers, but if I do this correctly, I’m going to strengthen this hand a little bit and I’m going to go over here. You shouldn’t really see my nails, right? You shouldn’t see your nails unless you have extremely long fingers. Um, but getting this a little bit more over is crucial. So, the first thing that can happen with a really strong right-hand grip, meaning being under the grip too much, is that you roll the face open and get inside right here at 9:00, which then you’re in golf golf jail, like I always say, because really hard to get out of, almost impossible to escape. Some of us do it, but not very well. And the other thing that happens is you start to lift because there’s no club set. And I’ve talked about this. I cannot set the club this way. See how little that club head travels? So now if we adjust our grip like we were just talking about and getting a little bit more on top, what this allows us to do is actually let the club set. See how the club now can set up and how much more distance the club head has traveled from the ground without me turning more. So here’s where you see you don’t have to turn more. You just have to let that club set,

  1. Very important part of the swing is the grip..Ps you look so amazing in your new outfit ..Wow gorgeous..thank Coach C

  2. Thanks Carolin. I think this explains why my shots either go right and stay right or go right and curve further right. My weak grip means I can’t close the face. I’ll go try out a stronger grip and see if it helps.

  3. I think my right/trail hand is too open – see the finger nails. Can this cause iron shots to go straight but to the right?

  4. Great video as always. My Nemesis is rolling to the inside and looking at this video, my left hand is exactly how you say it should be( I’m a righty) but my right hand is a little bit too far under, and after a mile adjustment, I can immediately feel the club set much earlier. Thanks!
