Collin Morikawa shoots a sizzling 8-under 63 but calls it “mixed emotions.” He’s thrilled with the putting, wants to stick with one putter, and plans to get his body right to own the cut—no more “faking it” around courses. Playing alongside William Mouw helped keep the momentum rolling. Collin says the off-season grind starts now to return as the player he knows he can be.
really solid ground today. Eight under 63. Can you just talk through how you’re feeling? Uh yeah, mixed emotions. Um I mean obviously I’m very happy with the eight under. You know, I think the way the game my game’s been kind of trending. You know, I probably would have signed for a fourunder, but got on off to a nice kind of roll and puttered really nicely. Um but look, this is my last tournament for the for the season and uh got a lot of work to do. you know, it’s it’s not really the the way I wanted the year to end. And um I can look at the positives, but for right now, I I know what I need to fix and um kind of tune up if I want to be the player uh that I know I can be. Said last event of the year, what are some of the things that you want to work on in the offse and what’s your biggest takeaway from this week? Yeah, I mean, two things. I think we talked about it um in the presser at the beginning of the week. you know, one’s one’s the putting um to really just kind of stick with one putter and uh just feel confident. I mean, today felt great. You know, I felt like if I put myself on the greens, you know, I felt like I can make any putt and and I need to get that feeling a little more often um during the season. And and two is just kind of getting the body right to where I know I can hit my cuts. Um I know I played well today, but you know, I think we’re good enough to where we can in a way fake it around this golf or fake it around golf courses. Um but I don’t want to do that. You know, I want to have full control. Um, and when I watch some of these top guys and and how they’re playing right now, it’s it’s motivating for me to to put into work. Um, so it’s going to be a fun couple months uh heading into next year. William Mau was also shooting pretty low in the same group. Were you guys eating off each other out there or Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it’s it’s nice when you have a playing partner that’s that’s playing well and and you know, they’re hitting great shots, you’re hitting great shots, you’re seeing putts go in. Um, you know, it’s it’s never a perfect equation to say you’re going to play great because of that, but when you are playing great, uh, it helps that momentum, especially as you continue that into the back nine. You know, sometimes it’s hard if you get off to a great start through nine to keep that rolling. Um, so it’s nice to have someone to to keep that going, uh, into the 38 team. Thank you,
